For a poster who tries so desperately to be seen as wanting peace, you’re ever so combative. Always looking to bait and argue….most prickly poster here!!! And a U2 fan!😖

Mod - @Cluedo Monopoly and @walshb, the two of you are heading for a warning and ban if you keep sniping at each other. I'd suggest the two of ignore each other as this isn't the first instance of this.

For a lot of people, support for Israel is just a socially acceptable vehicle for Islamophobia.

It's just extremism everywhere and a complete lack of humanity. This guy calling for the nuclear bombing of Gaza routinely calls Muslims animals. He, like a lot of people here, simply don't see them as equal to themselves.

They're probably baptised and confirmed, and still don't understand that people are simply born into these things.

Did he actually call for nuking Gaza? I viewed it more that he used the nuking of Japan as how they brought about an end to hostilities. In other words he was saying do whatever it takes in Gaza, but not “we need to nuke Gaza.”

The devastation wrought on Gaza is far greater than the nuclear bombs in Japan. It's hard to give him any room here for technicalities.

It's like calling for the continual nuclear bombing of all of Japan's population in order to find any remaining soldiers present in the civilian population.

That is what Israel's logic here is since there is no army in Gaza. There is no actual army holding guns. Israel's view on the Palestinian population is that you have to kill everyone because the people are the enemy, since there isn't a classic military to fight.

The problem with that is obvious. It's intangible and the goal of "defeating Hamas" basically requires the killing of every male over the age of like 13, and apparently every male who might reach 13 a decade from now.

So you are essentially admitting they have a self preservation instinct. Does this not undermine the propaganda about a fanatical death cult who crave martyrdom above all. It would seem the Iranians are quite rational and calculated when it comes to foreign policy decisions. This might explain why they didn't respond to the last strikes by Israel. It might also explain why they are talking to the Americans right now.

On the N7 this morning on the over passes people were setting up Palestine flags and occupied territories banners.

I wish Israel supporters would understand this more.

In Ukraine, an army fights, and Russian attacks on civilians is seen as obscene and horrible.

In Gaza, no one fights apart from loosely cobbled together terrorist attacks, and the entire population is therefore treated as the enemy. They are bombed and starved as an entire population.

Israel supporters mock the comparison to Ireland but it would be like bombing every Catholic area of Northern Ireland to get rid of the IRA. I have no idea how they don't understand this. 80-90%+ of Gaza has been devastated. That's like bombing all of South Armagh and the Falls Road, with the completely impossible goal of killing every member of the IRA. They mock the idea instead of taking any lessons from our own conflict and the largely successful resolution to it, which involved treating people with dignity and allowing enough compromise that people could put down their guns. That would mean allowing Palestine to be its own state so they don't accept it.

This "kill everyone" approach worked thousands of years ago. Not now.

yup. Sledgehammer-nut is Israel in this conflict, and other conflicts with Palestine

Yes. There would be no context for Sean in which to justify the mass killing and starvation of Israelis even if another country claimed it was within the context of self defense in a war with Israel.

It does seem like they are finally taking a critical line against Israel, yet hours after Lammy announced the suspension of trade talks an RAF spy plane took off from a Cypriot airbase to fly over Gaza. We know one of these Spy planes captured the killing of the seven aid workers but the British government refused to share with other countries what it captured. We also know MOD officials are continuing to meet senior IDF officials in London.

Only '' a teaspoon of aid allowed in ''.

It seems that the genocide is still full-blown in Gaza and the 98 trucks allowed in, many of them still not unloaded, was just a cosmetic exercise by Israel. I always thought that they would try to hide the genocide anyway. The lack of independent Press allowed to view the distribution of food is always a give away. Hamas will soon be blamed for stealing the food even though 6 people guarding the food were killed by the IDF.

And the report clearly states that aid amounting to 9000 trucks worth is ready to go.

So, enough aid is in place to avoid mass starvation. Israel will not let it in.

    Slam dunk Genocide:

What will be the effect if Israel/the Israeli government, are found guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity? Will Israel and her supporters continue to say the verdict is merely antisemitism, blood libel etc or will it mark a turning point in international relations with Israel?

The ICJ will judge Israel, the State, not the Govt. or individuals. There is no appeal.

If they find Israel culpable of Genocide, on the basis of the reaction to the issuing of arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant for War Crimes and a trip to The Hague for trial, I'd imagine Israel will be apoplectic. The rhetoric and hyperbole will be off the scale. The entire planet will be accused of being antisemitic. Israel will be apoplectic with rage.

The impact of such a verdict will be monumental - and I don't mean that in a good way. Other than the usual trotting out of the Hasbara, Israel would be able to do little about it. Unless they want to go into berserker mode and launch a few nukes into Gaza.

But I think that all news items about Israel from then on will be couched in terms of "Israel, the Genocidal Nation, something something" for years and years. Israel will suffer greatly - shunned, ignored, lambasted etc. The economy will hit rock bottom, the current level of Israelis leaving with grow significantly and on the political stage, they will also be shunned. I've posted before that I sincerely hope Israeli citizens who see the writing on the wall will rise up and throw out this dangerous Govt. who risk destroying their Nation.

Of course, "Never again" will be reborn as a worldwide mantra. Until it happens again of course.

All speculation on my part of course.

Here's a Haaretz opinion piece that indicates many Israelis do actually see the writing on the wall as regards how they are viewed Internationally even today.

"The world understands, like the Israelis who are less likely to accept the lie, that Gaza is in ruins, that there is a humanitarian crisis and that there is no justification for a futile war whose goal is political survival.

Israel's international standing today is nothing like it was in May 2024, and certainly not in October 2023.

Our credit has long been frittered away into nothing. And no one is rushing to open a new line of credit for a heavy gambler whose creditors are the court, police and Shin Bet investigators, and a coalition of faceless extremists"

As others above have said, sadly this conflict will rumble on for decades more.

Let's imagine (and admittedly I'm plucking figures from nowhere here) that before October '23 the support in Gaza for armed attack on Israel was 5%.

What do we reckon it is now? 50%? 80%? 99%??

I think under the present circumstances, loved ones maimed and murdered, even a pacifist like myself would be taking up arms at the 1st opportunity.

I see Ehud Olmert is the latest Israeli to come out as a Hamas support going by the thought process of some Israeli apologists posting on here. We can add him and the former Israeli defense minister(Yalon) to the ever growing list of anti semites.

The guy in the video clip who is the spokesperson for Israel is clearly gaslighting anyone watching who has even half a brain. I do wonder if we truly know the full story behind October 7th. Israel is so security conscious it seems strange that Hamas could launch such an attack and cause such carnage. Is it possible Netnayahu allowed it to happen as a pretext for going after the people of Gaza ie commit genocide. Israel want's Gaza cleared of people to allow for a pure annexation. They want Gaza cleared of Palestinians in the same way the Nazi's wanted Germany cleared of Jews. Clearly both situations are monstrous.

You had Jared Kuschner, Trumps son in law, getting excited by the real estate possibilities Gaza offered. This is clearly monstrous thinking as it wasn't with the betterment of the native Palestinians in mind.

Can you imagine having a job as Israeli government spokespers and having to tell lies and propaganda all day and ignore the facts. I can't fathom how people can be that shallow. Even if paid well, they must feel like such dishonest frauds. Their briefings on how to handle tough questions must be just weird. How could you possibly take pride in that work.

    https://www.palestinechronicle.com/poll-82-of-israelis-back-gaza-expulsion-nearly-half-support-biblical-massacres/

82% of Israelis support the ethnic cleansing of Gaza. Over half believe Arab Israelis should be expelled from Israel (sole democracy in the region, equal rights and all that....) and almost half support killing all Palestinians.

    That societies goose is cooked!

Not to mention trying to cover up Genocide and War Crimes and the world looking at it live on TV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,177 ✭✭✭dmcdona

I recall, in the very early days, various IDF spokespersons being interviewed on drivetime. They are all identical. The Hasbara is very strong in all Israeli spokespersons. The Israeli ambassador was similar. Evasion, denying factual evidence etc. and when they realised they weren't up against a rookie journalist, the outrage came out.

Just like Netanyahu did last night.

These people are very good at what they do and it works - on gullible people who do not question it. It doesn't wash for those who see the gaping holes, the lies and the obfuscation. It seems endemic in the govt and the IDF as the execution of 15 medics showed the world. Even in that case, when caught barefaced lying, they obfuscate and give some mealy mouthed apology.

And the current govt does this to everyone including their own - even opposition politicians and ex ministers and ex military leaders.

It really is bizarre behaviour for a nation that claims to be democratic. No other democratic nation I know of acts like this.

It really is like the kid with his mouth covered in chocolate swearing blind that he didn't eat the cake.

Olmert even pulled his punches - recall that there is an actual ICC arrest warrant for War Crimes out in Netanyahu who is currently on the run.

Unlike Olmert, Yair Golan who gave it both barrels.

At this rate of knots, a significant portion of senior existing and former Israelis will be classed as antisemites. As well as most European leaders.

Former Israeli PM Ehud Olmert told the BBC in an interview Tuesday evening that what Israel "is doing now in Gaza is very close to a war crime" and is waging "a war without a purpose – a war without a chance of achieving anything that can save the lives of the hostages."

The Democrats leader Yair Golan will be forbidden from wearing an IDF uniform, entering a military base or serving as a reservist, Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Friday. Katz cited Golan's remarks against the government's policies in Gaza on Tuesday, when he told Kan public radio that a "sane country" would not "kill babies as a hobby and does not set goals for itself like the expulsion of a population." Before retiring, Golan served as IDF deputy chief of staff.

iI's a good question. I'm not sure but I'd say your percentages for young men are not fantasy. I can imagine the blood is rising in them for sure.

For the older generation and women, I think they just want the war to end and they want Hamas gone. But they will not trust Israel for many decades. It would be a very fragile peace, if you call the absence of war "peace".
