This post aged well MarkO. Not so "well fed" anymore eh?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

"But Hamas", you could at least come up with something original to make excuses for war crimes. The IDF are deliberately killing civilians, and medical staff, and journalists, they're shooting at diplomats now. Do you take issue with them killing civilians, including children?

And when the Israelis get all defensive and lie, what do you think these diplomats and their countries will say?

Nothing short of an abject apology from Israel will suffice.

    Let's see what happens.

No idea who Chris Jaba is btw.

Has it not occurred to you that the story of Gaza being flattened, forced displacement of 2m people and now the deliberate starving of the population is now a far bigger story than the October 7th terrorist attacks? I don't think this penny has dropped with any of Israel's supporters.

Totally agree - but for this to happen just after the EU vote, which wasn't unanimous (or needed to be), anyone thinking of giving once last chance for Israel to redeem itself and possibly avert extensive sanctions, it just blew up on their faces.

That the world is now sitting up and watching (pretty much wall to wall Israel commentary on RTE radio 1 and BBC online today), many will be saying words to the effect of "jeez, as well as murdering women and children, they're now going after foreign diplomats".

It really will copper fasten for most people exactly what Israel is.

I'd say the diplomats that were shot at today by the IDF will be quite capable of telling the truth. No need for Hamas to say anything now. Shooting medics in cold blood followed by foreign politicians, these Israelis are just scum.

Interesting opinion piece from Dahlia Scheindlin addressing the vacuum of reportage from Gaza - obviously because of Israel.

As Israel rolls out its vast expansion of the war, the feverish ongoing battle over information is raging alongside the gunfire.

    Is there famine in Gaza?

    Does Hamas steal humanitarian aid?

Were the aid workers the IDF shot from point-blank range in March near Rafah and buried along with their vehicles murdered in cold blood,

and is Israel 'killing babies as a hobby,' as Yair Golan, head of the Democrats party said on Tuesday?

The only way to answer these questions in real time is for media professionals to witness, investigate, and interrogate the war independently, firsthand.

But since Hamas' attack on October 7, 2023 and the start of the war, Israel has not permitted foreign journalists to enter Gaza – except through the one option available to Israeli journalists: spending a few hours in Gaza embedded with the Israeli army"

    Two more reports from Haaretz.

As has happened many times before, Settlers are interfering with the delivery of humanitarian aid. They simply want Palestinians to die so they can move in and steal the land.

The second piece is significantly more ominous. If Smotrich succeeds, there will be no words to describe the catastrophe he will unleash. Everything Israel has done to date will be in the ha'penny place. Remember - it is Smotrich who uttered the "concentration" and "cleansing" words in in last couple of weeks.

Activists from Tsav 9, a U.S.-sanctioned far-right group with ties to IDF reservists and Israeli settlers, tried to block the road leading to the Kerem Shalom crossing at the Israel-Gaza border to prevent humanitarian aid trucks from entering the enclave. The left-wing Jewish-Arab NGO Standing Together announced that it will be present at the Gilat and Kerem Shalom crossing to ensure the safe passage of aid into Gaza.

In the next day or two U.S. President Donald Trump and his right hand man Steve Witkoff will have to make a strategic decision: whether to confront Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly and publicly and force on him a cease-fire and an end to the war, or to
give in and let Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich carry out his plan to destroy Gaza.
The diplomatic cauldron is on the verge of boiling over, and it looks as though there's no more time"

When the war ends, it'll become clear that there never was a famine in Gaza. Eventually, the war will fade from the headlines because there'll be bigger stories elsewhere.

I was referring to Gaza. The firing of warning shots near the diplomats' car took place in the West Bank. The driver deviated from the agreed route.

Did you not think to google "Chris Kaba"?! Have you not heard of the use of firearms by police in London?!

By the way, the diplomats' driver deviated from the agreed route.

Your apologist position on actual war crimes is pathetic, how do you justify this to yourself?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,223 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

I'm not reading his posts but I'm clearly not excusing anything. You're wrong on both counts here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Frank Grimes

How do you justify the IDF's killing of civilians including children, you don't seem to want to answer that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Frank Grimes

You are, at least have the intellectual honesty of owning the position you are taking instead of this mealy mouthed approach you seem intent on taking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,223 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

You're just wrong brother. If I believe something I'll say it. I'm an anonymous account on a forum there's no reason for me to lie. Your post isn't based off an iota of substance. At this point you're just deflecting from my point because you can't counter it.

    Sweet Jesus…

Please provide a source for that assertion. On second thoughts, maybe not.

I guess you're right - the firing of warning shots was nothing like the killing of a suspected criminal evading arrest. But I never said it was.

You do understand that States hosting Diplomats have a duty to protect them?

Not that Netanyahu would ever travel to anywhere in Europe (as that would be his second last stop) but if he did, do you honestly think e.g. the French Army would be firing shots in the vicinity of him?

So, a driver got mixed up with Google Maps and the IDF fire shots. Hmmm.

Let's see what what Israel concocts. If its anything like the IDF extermination of 15 medics, it'll initially be a pack of lies of course.

Palestinians are protesting against Hamas, for the third day.

If ever a user name was misleading, yours most definitely is. Germany was heavily punished after WW2 for reasons I would hope are very self-evident, that included losing large chunks of land as the Soviets wanted as much space as possible between themselves and Germany. Most Germans left those areas as they feared the Soviets, as did the Poles which is why they staged the Warsaw uprising as they wanted to regain control from the retreating Germans before the Soviets arrived. Most Eastern Europeans feared the Soviets as much as the Germans and that persists to this day. Hence why they are all in NATO.

It may be argued that Israel wants the same, but it is a very different situation. Mandatory Palestine was created against the wishes of the Arabs post WW1. The Balfour Declaration, Sykes-Picot had zero input from the Arabs. The Arabs had fought on the side of the Allies in WW1, yet were effectively punished afterwards by having their lands sliced up against their wishes. Israel was created against the wishes of the Arabs. Why were they repeatedly ignored and what were they being punished for?

If you are unable to distinguish between what happened to East Prussia and Mandatory Palestine, then you haven't a clue.

Brave brave souls. They have my full solidarity. You can bet the HAMAS boys will be the last to go hungry. Evil group of lads.

If they ever hold another election HAMAS will get fucked out.

Does that include the ones Hamas used as weapons caches etc?

The hate speech legislation the EU is putting pressure on Ireland to implement specifically mentions anti semitism.

Potentially dangerous times ahead. They're tightening the screws.

What has EU laws anything to do with what is happening in Gaza?

Are you referring to Al-Shifa because those IDF propaganda videos in 2023 were proven to be bogus. But why don't you provide a link to back up your claim. Or do you plan to disappear again 😉

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

There is no place the Palestinians can go to in Gaza and not be in the line of fire. That's the entire objection of the Israelis - to have them in the line of fire.

It seems that the mood is very much changing quite rapidly. Gazans are openly protesting Hamas (they are subject to execution) and Israelis are doing the the same (maybe not subject to execution but a bit of roughing up by the IDF is possible).

After Yair Golan's doubling down on the "killing babies as a hobby", he's joined by Moshe Ya'alon.

'The mood is changing': Israeli anger grows at conduct of war

Yair Golan, a left-wing politician and former deputy commander of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), sparked outrage on Monday when he said: "Israel is on the way to becoming a pariah state, like South Africa was, if we don't return to acting like a sane country.

"A sane state does not wage war against civilians, does not kill babies as a hobby, and does not set itself the goal of depopulating the population," he told Israeli public radio's popular morning news programme.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hit back, describing the comments as "blood libel".

But on Wednesday, a former Israeli minister of defence and IDF chief of staff - Moshe "Bogi" Ya'alon - went further.

"This is not a 'hobby'," he wrote in a post on X, "but a government policy, whose ultimate goal is to hold on to power. And it is leading us to destruction."
