this still going folks, my wifes pixel 7 battery is fading a bit now, looks like she would get 295 all in for it so cheap enough upgrade.

Don't you get €200 anyway. So €42 for this particular phone, but the website says they'll give you €57 for this model, plus the €200

    I've a 6a that I'm thinking of switching.

So just to summarise the whole thread.....I go into a VF store with my 6a, I ask to trade in my 6a for a 9a. They run a few tests, accept the trade in. I walk out with a 9a for 157.99......with no pressure to switch to Vodafone network or buy top up credit? So I don't need to get a cheap SIM card?

Thanks for this. Looks like there's a significant payout (~$450) if my phone is affected.

I have a pixel 7a and ran it through the checker on that Google link. They say I'm eligible for $456 or euro equivalent. I only paid €200 for it two years ago. If I get a payment for the 7a, I wonder if I can then trade it in to Vodafone for 200+ against a 9a. 😁 The 7a is fine with no swelling that I can see and the battery life seems fine too..

    Possibly according to the FAQ:

What happens to my Pixel 7a after I take the payment or Google hardware discount code appeasement offer? Can I still use it?

…You will not be required to return your device.

Massive win if you are eligible.

I went through the check too and I was also told that I am eligible for 456 USD. But I was told that it will take up to 3 weeks for an agent to check my case. By coincidence, my Pixel 9A screen is cracked, so this is perfect timing. If the agent approves my payment, I will take the 456 USD and buy the Pixel 9A. But I bet there will be hassle in getting the payment.

The 4a was released 5 years ago. It is arguable that early A series werent as durable as competitors. But The 9a would reflect generational advancements Google's evolution of the A series. The hardware is completely different in nearly all respects.

I would say the 9a is also able to stand more punishment. It has IP68 rating (dust-tight and water-resistant to 1.5m/30mins) whereas 4A had no rating. 9A also has a composite matte back, along with the metal frame (less prone to flexing) which was introduced in the 7A series. 4A only had a polycarb body.

The one spec that seems to be the same is the Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Its proven to be a great product, but its old tech now considering it was released in 2013. Obviously it was selected to help keep pricing down.

Those of you who got the VF trade in deal.....did you have to bring in a charger and cable with the phone? Or did they accept just the phone itself?

I brought it with me but they never asked for it. I did get offered less than was on the website (only €8 less). I wonder is it because I didn't give the charger and cable in.

None of them come with a charger plug so I wouldn't be giving them that.

My 7a is eligible for that refund. Thanks, Flinty997!

    According to their FAQ,

Recommerce takes back the smartphones, then repairs and refurbishes them. This gives your old and used device a second life. Functional smartphones are then resold in Europe and in emerging markets. This gives the population there access to a mobile phone.

No point handing back a charger as the plug itself is most likely different in the markets where working phones may ultimately end up.

Yeah that's true but my old 6a has been through some tough times. The screen wasn't broken or anything but had taken a fair bit of surface damage.

Is the trade in offer still on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,148 ✭✭✭wassie

If you mean the €200 bonus offer - then Yes. No mention of when it finishes other than it is a time limited offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,946 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

I thought I saw it ends on 30th June.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,374 ✭✭✭con747

According to the t&c's it ended in March so who knows when it ends unless there's new t&c's somewhere. "The Offer is valid from 1st January 2025 to 31st March 2025 (the “Offer Period”) in Vodafone retail stores, Vodafone franchisee stores and online at Vodafone.ie" https://binaries.vodafone.co.uk/tizrehont83j/6OtyNR3tPdnIBjGQQ4Wff0/9ffe6eae77a82896f7f9000912999f7f/Trade_in_boost.pdf

traded in my Hawaii p30 lite for 2e (which i got from Vodafone in 2018) not used for years and screen cracked, unfortunately has to top up 20e ( based feed back here it seems depending on the store) paid 218 in total ( not happy as those non top up but no complaints as the top up will remain on my 087 ac anyway)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,148 ✭✭✭wassie

Had an iPhone 6 & iPhone 7 to trade in.

The 6 was not accepted, but the 7 was. Not bad for a 9 year old phone.

    As above, €218 all in.

Thanks @rb2022 for the heads up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,148 ✭✭✭wassie

Seems like your both correct with a new T&Cs offer period following on from expiration of the previous one.

The Offer is valid from 1st April 2025 to 30th June 2025 (the “Offer Period”) in Vodafone retail stores and Vodafone franchisee stores and is valid from 16th April 2025 to 30th June 2025 online at Vodafone.ie
