Anyone see that Oleg Golovko did a runner from his position with the Ukrainian delegation. Good move.

Strange. Seems like other than Russian sources, this isn't around. The russian source I found said CNN turkey had this event, but no dice finding it there.

Got a reputable source? (and of course with RuZZians around, lots of ways for people to disappear, especially translators).

Oh, pretty sad you gave us no other information like who this guy was. Lazy.

What a saga. The US really didn't want Ukraine getting more Abrams tanks from Australia than the US gave them.

Ukraine now have experience with them, so if they didn't want them all they would have to do is say so, but they haven't; but not to worry, the US has been telling Australia what Ukraine really needs and wants in the hope they wouldn't send them.

American officials remain privately frustrated over Australia's decision to donate retired Abrams tanks to Ukraine, even as the vehicles finally begin the long sea journey to the battleground.

During an overnight meeting in Rome, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Prime Minister Anthony Albanese after he confirmed the fleet of second-hand M1A1 vehicles was on the way.

The ABC has confirmed that the process of loading the first of the 49 vehicles onto a cargo ship began recently, but the government will not discuss their current location or expected arrival date in Europe for "security reasons".

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05-19/us-officials-frustrated-australia-sending-tanks-to-ukraine/105308996

So glad Australia is now going ahead, despite the US hindrances like withdrawing from the Polish base that would have processed them.

Seems like Orc sources want people to think he fled to Bulgaria in a car. But there is no evidence for it, just possible Orc misdirection. Of course another baseless allegation might involve this story being pushed to take heat from suspicions the FSB disappeared him.

I don't trust Erdogan as far as I could kick him with a broken leg, but I had thought that he really would not welcome the FSB murdering members of the Ukrainian delegation and spoiling his cultivated image of safe independent provider of venues for critical negotiations.

Last time there were 'talks' in Turkey, Abramovich and a Ukrainian negotiator were poisoned. Turkey clearly is unwilling to provide adequate security so I am surprised Ukraine were willing to attend talks there again.

I'm checking it as well - finding only dodgy sources so far.

I mean it's possible, some Ukrainians have worked for the Russians or been compromised by them. At the outbreak of the war Ukrainians who had been working with the Russian FSB or under their pay fled. Spies and traitors were also discovered, as well as certain people reporting Ukrainian military positions.

If this translator has fled somewhere, okay, but indeed not finding any credible sources on it so far.

It is interesting to note that the posts follow the same template. They start with: “it seems”, “it looks like”, followed by Russians advance getting pace/speed because Ukraine defence is “crumbling” and they are getting encircled (often called “cauldron”. The finish being something like: “I hope they will abandon their positions to save their lives”.

Italy’s Ministry of Defense, led by Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, has prepared the 11th military aid package for Ukraine, with a key focus on 400 tracked APCs of the M113 type, more specifically, the Italian variant known as the VCC-2 Camilino.

According to Il Messaggero, in addition to the APCs, the package also includes a satellite surveillance system to assist Ukraine with operational planning, though no further details about this system have been disclosed.

Well done Meloni, a very useful aid package.

Trump fell for the ego massage again, Putin laughs when he hangs up the phone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 293 ✭✭AngeloArgue

For all Trump's bluster not much has come out of his phonecall with Putin.

But, both sides are now engaged in a process that may produce peace. And that's to be commended.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,370 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Trump saying he will pull out if no deal is made, is showing your cards, why on earth would Putin make a deal, when he knows if he doesn't US will walk away. Trump is so stupid saying this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭REDBULL68

Gas ,everyone here slagging Trump, Biden never even attempted to get peace negotiations with putin, at least Trump is trying to stop the war, I don't care if you don't like his orange colour or his personality, he's trying to stop the war, play the ball not the man .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,672 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

But Putin is playing him for a fool. He (Putin) didn't agree to a single thing today in a two hour phone call, just more waffle about 'talks'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,711 ✭✭✭Virgil°

Trump is trying to get a quick political win for himself using the war as his vehicle.

Which is why you see him constantly apply pressure to Zelensky/Ukraine to make unreasonable concessions and do everything he can to excuse or run interference for the stronger one and aggressor Russia/Putin.

He's trying to get a fast and dirty deal done. And he doesn't give a flying fiddler about f*cking over the Ukrainians while hes at it. So playing the man is extremely appropriate here.

Are Ukraine not there ?you'd swear it's a side line deal ,they are well in on the negotiations, your post makes no sense, a dirty deal will be done ,it's dirty, but it's a peace, people will stop getting killed,

I don't understand what you mean? Yes Ukraine have been there sometimes as Trump has repeatedly attempted to shaft them in negotiations. Sometimes they haven't been there when Trump calls Putin or his delegation/ Steve Whitkoff get sent to meet Putin or his lackeys. It's your post making little sense I'm afraid.

dirty deal will be done ,it's dirty, but it's a peace, people will stop getting killed

Short term, naive and history ignorant thinking. A dirty deal(depending on what that means) is very unlikely to do anything but buy a short reprieve. Putin has shown many times that he has no interest in peace. His original goals of removing Ukraine as a sovereign state remain unchanged.

And in any case. Your original point that somehow Donald Trump should be given any credence or be immune to criticism for bullying the victim of this war into a unjust peace is laughable. But you're right. Biden never did that. Hurray I guess?

Biden didn't waste his time trying to negotiate with a known deal breaker. It's pointless.

But he did supply the Ukraine with some equipment and information to defend themselves with. What has Donald done apart from suspend support and organise a few phone calls? That'll keep the Ukrainians alive!

Trump continues to expose himself as an absolute buffoon.

The diehards will still follow (they're not bright) but plenty of those who voted/supported him are waking up to their ridiculous mistake.

Him, his government, his entourage, his family are cretins.

Perhaps Trump should not have taken ending the war onto himself. Ukraine was being supported by NATO and the European states but Mr T declared himself head honcho and acted without consultation with NATO or Ukraine. He demanded payment for assistance given and negotiated mineral deals and then wondered why the war didn’t end. He got his cut so what’s left to discuss .??

He chose to cosy up to the No. 1 threat to NATO and Europe. Now as his demand go unheard he says ‘ah to heck with this- I’m off ‘ - leaving a role he should never have taken in the first place. and leaving his allies in the lurch.

He trumpets ‘America first’ with no understanding that every nation on this earth values its nationhood and could declare the same about its priorities.

Wish someone would take the President and vice President on a week long tour of the world via the magic of Epcot in Orlando this summer. Show these untravelled men via headphones and cinema how great and wonderful this world really is and the inherent greatness of ALL its races and histories.

Gary Kasparov made the astute observation that the west is making the mistake of treating Putin as if he is a politician when in reality he is a gangster. They keep trying to reason with him and make deals despite the fact that Russia keeps breaking promises and making fools of everyone. Russians just don't think like the west does. They never have.

And then almost zero engagement with other posters now. It's obvious that the posts are intended for the eyes of people newly coming to this thread who might just take them at face value, as opposed to seasoned followers of the thread who can spot suspect posts pretty quickly. Clearly the hope is to take in as many casual passing readers as possible with the intention of influencing their outlook. Engaging in discussion might only lead to their posts being exposed as nonsense, which would turn off casual readers, so the tactic is clearly just lob in spurious claims and leave. Trawling so to speak.

You're dead right. Why in the name of God didn't Churchill just negotiate with Adolf, however long it took. Think of the the millions of lives that may/ may not have been saved. At least Chamberlin showed he was interested in peace.

Trump wants Putin & Zelensky to sit down and negotiate an end to the war (not realistic)

Putin wants Putin & Trump to sit down and negotiate some sort of new world order

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,134 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

    Exactly !

Maybe if we just let Hitler have a few more countries, then this whole war business could have been avoided, and he would have stopped invading after a while.

“In a recent op-ed in the Detroit Free Press, Brink wrote, quote, "the policy since the beginning of the Trump administration has been to put pressure on the victim, Ukraine, rather than on the aggressor, Russia."

Don’t be so naive, Trump is trying to throw Ukraine under the bus, they just refuse and resist because they have more bravery in their baby finger than the whole Trump administration put together.

Do people only half remember their history?

Europe has been over dependent on USA for security for 80 years. My brother has been based between Ramstein and Signollea for nearly 20 years except for a few years between Pearl Harbour and Afghanistan; USA's military presence comes at a huge cost to their tax payer.

Is expecting this to continue not a bit entitled? USA taxpayer keeps the citizens of the one of worlds richest trading block safe while they continue with pie in the sky energy and security policies?

People comparing Churchill to Trump; why not compare to FDR who sat on his hands in terms of military engagement in Europe until after Pearl Harbour and after Hitler declaring war first?

Where's the European Churchill? Who's actually putting their armed forces on the ground or even looking to? UK military capability has shrank very significantly over the last generation.

Their not because they are still on the Russian energy tit thanks to years of naivety in terms of energy policy. You can't fight a war without energy secure energy supplies and a strong industrial base. Europe have spent the last decade a more shutting this stuff down.

Trump is a horrible cnut, but the Yanks are not wrong in trying to get back their manufacturing base and having their own energy security locked down.

USA have decided that China is their main problem and Europe can do most of the running to sort out a mess in their own backyard. What Trump says is all theatre, the idea of a major intervention by them to get Russia to the table is fantasy.

Someone up thread was saying the world was better off when the neo cons exporting regime change all over the world. ffs
