Yes, several years ago. Like chalk and cheese. Condenser boilers are vastly more efficient than the older models. We also upgraded our hot water cylinder and controls at the same time - for which we received a grant.

We changed about four years ago. It's much more efficient. We're using much less oil than before.

I've my condening boiler about 4 years. It is amazing how efficient it is. I'm always pleasantly shocked when I look in my oil tank and see how much is left after each winter.

It easily payed for itself within 3 years. It's a no brainer.

Our oil boiler died recently, got one quote for a replacement so far and thought it was ridiculous. Looking at the price of the boiler, they wanted 2k for labour. Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent plumber. Don't mind paying for good work but don't want to be ripped off either.

The problem with tradesmen is that they rarely seem to quote the same way twice.( personal experience, so don't shoot the messanger) so it's hard to guage the value that you're getting.

We're in the middle of it ourselves and although we've been fortunate to get lads at I think, reasonable prices, but you'd be pulling your hair out sometimes.

Ask friends and family members for recommendations and let them know such and such referred you. It seems to help with the price and their availability.

If that fails, try tradesmen.ie. You can describe the job in detail and get proper quotes which you can compare and get references from previous clients.

    Best of luck

How do you know if that’s ridiculous or not? Have you asked how many hours it will take? Ours took one man approx three days to replace, granted it was a bigger job than usual.

We got one about 5 years ago. Best thing ever. So economical. Run a mile from any suggestion of air to water or any of that nonsense. condenser boilers are wonderful

I got it done only recently, had to get some Radiators change and all the valves on the Radiators, 3600 for all materials and 2300 for the labour. I had a lot to upgrade and factor in a Electrician for the controller, non return valve for a back boiler, loads of new pipe work (House is 1992). To is just to put it in context of quotes. It did take 3 full days labor (2Plumbers by 1.5 days).

Well happy with the result and oil usage (Also installed a Remote Oil Level Detector no more dipping it with a Stick!)

@Buddy74: Thank you! That sounds totally reasonable.

@?cee?view: Everything bar the boiler is new. He said he'd have it done in a day, straightforward job. Old boiler out, new boiler in. So yes, I think that 2k is ridiculous.
