They're motoring now in fairness. Some great shooting by Murphy with all the space created in front of him and Michael Brennan has been excellent

That long break doesn't help. Bit rusty first half.

Marty looks a serious prospect, some lovely scores

Great to get the win and a huge seven days ahead for the county. The u20 final will more than likely be Dr. Cullen Park?

UsUsually it's Portlaoise for Kilkenny Dublin games is it not?

hard to know what to make of that? Bullshit running with the ball, when they did send it in long we got results especially just after Laois came within a point we got our act together no bullshit and hit a massive 11points without reply backs were relatively good and of the six forwards Marty Murphy and Michael Brennan were outstanding and Ed. Lauhoff had a good last twenty.

    Next Wednesday in Portlaoise

@theresldonater you could be right, we will wait to see what venue the Leinster council has planned

The style of play in the first 40 minutes of this half is the reason that I don't love hurling as much as I used to. Kilkenny's tactic for that period was to handpass/throw the ball in tight corners until they turned over the ball which they inevitably did. Marty Murphy obviously had the measure of his marker but was foraging for the ball in his own half.

In fairness, when Kilkenny went more direct and took their scoring opportunities, they looked decent, particularly Marty and Michael Brennan. Hard to judge as Laois were poor. Ref was very poor also.

I forgot to mention Anthony Ireland Wall, who I felt started the ball rolling when introduced and picked off two great points.

As a neutral I'd prefer Carlow or newbridge, would be a better atmosphere.

I wouldn't mind if people were saying Munster is a level ahead of the Leinster championship at the moment because thats undeniable, but its like some pundits are trying to put down Leinster or over egg Munster, on second Captains pre championship preview Jamie Wall said if Waterford were in Leinster they'd be favourites to win it and described watching Leinster championship as eating your vegetables, on that logic we shouldn't be watching club championship as that's a level below intercounty.

Will Marty Murphy be a bolter for the seniors? With a few injuries he could be an option. He has all the tools, with experience will come an increase in work rate and bit more activity off the ball. He is a fair detail .

Loais were quite nieve in that they left it two on two inside and there was oceans of space. Kilkenny had a strong wind in the second half. Thats why they went long.

In fairness to them they committed to a game plan and stuck to it. There was not one stupid ball launched into nowhere but I agree they tried to thread the needle a bit too much at times. But that’s how you learn and perfect

Pundits are definetly going out of there way to put down Leinster and big up Munster for sure

If you even look at club all Irelands over the years at all the grades Munster teams aren’t exactly pulling up trees or as far ahead of Leinster teams in that scenario

Limerick are going for 7 in a row while some of the matches might be good the same team is winning similar to Leinster

Waterford haven’t won Munster in 15 years Clare 1998 I think it can’t be that good a competition if the other teams aren’t at least winning it ever 2-3 years aswell

I fully agree as regards the scheduling of games is terrible but I love watching hurling and if kk are playing and I can go I will doesn’t matter who the opposition is or how one sided I might think the game could be

I would never miss a kk game to watch another game in a different province that’s madness to me

U20 Leinster final fixed for next wednesday in Portlaoise at 7.35pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭jamesbond2022

There’s clearly a gulf between the teams themselves in Munster one team is going for the there 7th tittle in a row Clare no Munster for years Waterford similar Waterford’s record in Munster is shocking

A good competition to me has different winners every few years

Tipp fans wouldn’t even go support there team in thurles last year and were outnumbered by cork fans

    Waterford fans similar

Plenty of dead rubber games in Munster last year
There are some good games in Munster but this narrative that it’s the best thing since sliced bread is way off imo

Bashing Leinster hurling all the time doesn’t make Munster hurling even better or put it on a high pedestal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 269 ✭✭therealdonster

I see the U20 AI Final is scheduled for either May 31st or June 1st which means Tipp have a 2 week run in whereas the Leinster winners are out 2 weeks running

I wouldn't turn this into a Munster v Leinster debate , better the game of hurling v the Gaa hierarchy. Football over the last number of years was dying on its feet and people switching off in droves. Revenues down, desperate measures required, over to Jim Gavin and FRC and in fairness a miracle solution. Revenue stream restored all is right in the Gaa world again. Why can't the hurling season be run as per football? National league starting in January like the Walsh cup and its Munster equivalent of the past, provincial championship knockout format and then All Ireland open draw series? Level playing field for all. Having watched Antrim and Offaly seniors and Laois under 20s in the flesh I despair about the state of hurling outside the Munster championship.

Leinster v Munster hurling is all media run shite. I was at a lot more brilliant Leinster finals over the years than Munster finals.munster finals ,sunny days, big crowds, confined country town all added up to an atmosphere which the media loved

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭kkclubhurling

as is often said semi finals are for winning abd job done last night

It took Kk a while to get goin but i thought that the backs did well throughout with bergin & lyng offering real pace comin out with the ball too

midfield was lahoff and mcphillips, they are a decent duo, mcphillips is a great athlete and very pacy, lahoff is very classy and has great vision, he must have laid on 5 or 6 points

Frees prob need to be nailed from minute one against the dubs.. brennan was very good throughout.. I wasn’t sure how marty and McDermott would work but McDermott played a lot at 12 and they interchanged, both were very good

I agree re not making this a munster v leinster thing we're all hurling people it's just at the moment munster is very competitive which in turn brings the crowds and then the crowds follow its the crowds and atmosphere for me that makes it special.

Village mentioned the clare v tipp game last weekend I agree I thought it was magnificent viewing I understand the kilkenny argument of him going to his own counties match but in fairness it was a great spectacle. I enjoyed the Galway v wexford match I think it was less of a spectacle though cos of the small crowd.

The media will always hype up what's good, when kilkenny were in their pomp the only team that would beat them was their b team the same recently with Limerick it certainly wasn't the case with Limerick anyway I'll guarantee you that now cork are the new thing.

Should be 2 great matches in munster again this weekend plus I'm looking forward to seeing kilkenny v dublin but why in the name of God is there a feast one weekend and then little or none another weekend. Stage them for maximum exposure and entertainment

I just don’t like the attitude that’s beginning to creep in towards Leinster hurling some of comments from pundits even from Leinster have being bad and disparaging

Even the likes Of rte themselves the last few years have seemed to show more Munster hurling than Leinster

Hurling is the game that should get the promotion and coverage no matter what province

The bias towards Munster hurling is wrong imo

Munster hurling is not the only competition in town

Leinster hurling isn’t as bad as people are making out the same way games in Munster aren’t absolute out of this world everyday

Both competitions are very different for a lot of reasons populations geography history tradition etc

He absolutely will. He was on the senior panel at the start of the year until the hamstring went against him. Has all the hurling in the world with a great paw. The only slight drawback is his mobility, being a big man, but makes up for that in spades with strength and a serious strike off left or right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,613 ✭✭✭Village87

Yeah in fairness to him he is the best forward we have seemed to produce in years. We could well see him in a senior jersey this year, he was outstanding v Offaly last year in the Under 20 championship, and the championship is the best place to judge. I thought Mcdermott might make the step up but Murphy is well ahead of him going off last night.
