Applegreen is due to open Ireland’s first Taco Bell this summer, somewhere. More expected to open nationwide

yawn. Taco Bell is absolutely crap. Not just the usual “fast food shite” it’s absolutely diabolical.

It won’t last til the end of the summer. I expect a bit of a buzz in its first few days and a huge decline then once people realise how crap it is.

Shite food and shite portions. Bad value all around.

It's terrible. Opened in Australia a 2 years ago, and owners are trying to sell the brand already.
There are much better Mexican everywhere options that use fresh ingredients not process crap.

yeah the difference is McDonalds isn’t pure crap. That’s what I’m trying to get across Taco Bell is just bad.

McDonald’s, Burger King and KFC are okay at worst in some places actually pretty good. I’ve had Taco Bell and heard enough from people who also have been (UK & US) and I’ve never heard anything good said about it.

I just can’t see it lasting. It’s next level shite.

There was an American comedian on Twitter called Neil Hamburger who used to always retweet people who complained they were sick or had diarrhea after eating Taco Bell.

Was in Belfast a few weeks ago and stopped at the Chick-a-fil mentioned in the article.

The food was nice but totally overpriced and the crowds were just ridiculous.

Lived in America for a good while and even though I'm partial to fast food I only tried Taco Bell once and didn't bother after that.

I don't think I'll be sampling it here either

Now Wendy's which is coming to Corrib Oil stores soon, that's a different story.

Pure scutter. I don’t eat cheese so that keeps me away. Unfortunately one of the kids live it. There is one not too far away from me that I don’t mind going to as it has a view many restaurants would kill for.

I don't think they did. I remember the first McDs coming to the UK and they were met with excitement. I went to the one in Haymarket in London in about 74/75, the 2nd in the UK IIRC. It was like a tourist attraction in its own right.

EDIT: @Raichų is right, Taco Bell are absolute shite.

My wife (American) once told me that Taco Bell is only good if you're stoned. :pac:

Thanks Boards/After Hours- that’s enough posts for me to keep my money in my pocket and not even try Taco Bell.

I could understand this twenty odd years ago before Ireland had discovered Mexican food, and had a plethora of Mexican food offering. As a visitor to the states (and had it on the UK) Taco Bell is beyond grim.

Wendy’s might tank too over here but I’ve a lot more hope for that than Taco Bell.

Crapo Bell is a more appropriate name I would say.

Dreadful food, you'd want to be stoned and/or drunk to consider eating it.

The only saving grace may be that food regulations are far more stringent here than America. I've seen videos of Americans trying KFC & McD's over here and saying they're far better over here.

I'd be kind of curious enough to give it a once-off try, though even if it was good it'd likely always be low on the list of whatever fast-food stuff I may be craving.

I think it was the word “scutter” that won me over to not trying it 😀

Just what our kids need, more transfat and and sodium filled slurry.

    Hopefully it fails.

You know it won't. Perhaps Supermac and Abrakebabra need to be launched in the US. Would they be happy with Apache and 4 star?

No surprise they are going for the petrol station market because I can't see them last in any of the cities where the fast food offerings are at another level these days.

Gonna be a dodgy car journey after a family of 4 are half way to their destination after eating Taco Bell

Believe it or not, they already have the latter, at least in western Pennsylvania and east Ohio…

    https://fourstarpizza.com/

After setting these up, the owner then decided to come to Ireland in the 80s. But they're no longer connected.

Does the whole "shtting yourself" legend come from a perception that the food is spicy or is it the crap quality of the food.

I find (especially with Irish people) anywhere with a reputation for the former is actually bland as fuk.

It's a pity he didn't keep them. I used to love the ad.

I thought it was so American, I wonder if it aired in the Ohio / Pennsylvania.

its not spicy, its just shite food. It has no taste whatsoever really. Their “spicy” menu items are very mild altogether and everything’s just.. boring?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭ILikeBoats

Do they need to change their ingredients to meet European standards when they open here? Would that make it a bit "nicer" than the US version?

I see Popeye's is also opening on Westmoreland St.

You might try this once, but you won’t try it twice. Truly awful fast food.
