Please tell me you did not actually go off looking for links to disprove my claim that it's all just speculation at this point?

Just over 48 hours after the news, I am telling you, it is all speculation. You know what they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Of course it is all speculation. I am just responding to your claim that no one was mentioning Kielty some people were, plus same for the new pope plenty of places mentioned him as being in the running.

Back on topic I would say RTE might just go with the obvious and likely less pricey option with Katie she seems to be the main go to when he is off but sure who knows.

Kielty lives in London. He commutes one day a week to do TLLS. It’s a very different thing to commuting once a week for less than half the year than essentially staying Mon-Fri. for a much longer period. Also TLLS has a 22 (or is it 25?) day commitment over a 22/25 week run. Liveline would be a full 40 week commitment when you allow for Joe Duffy-esque holidays.

I would say there is zero chance of him being interested in the role.

one source said: “Don’t rule out a reimagining of the schedule altogether. It’s interesting times. You just wouldn’t know who will walk in the door. Patricia has a clean slate to bring in anyone she likes. Dermot Whelan filling in for Oliver Callan for a few weeks is an example. So expect to see some interesting people being brought in for a run over the summer.”

make RTÉ Radio “more conversational like Newstalk, while still being a public service broadcaster”.

Kathryn Thomas, who left RTÉ to join Dublin’s Q102, could be brought back into the fold. “Kathryn is not long out of the parish and I wouldn’t be surprised if she is being considered, not for Liveline but another slot.” EeeeK!

“The plan is for a new schedule to be implemented by the end of the year. It won’t be a ‘tweak’ here and there. The schedule will look very different this time next year.”

    😯

Liveline if it remains on air, needs a good shake up, regardless of the new presenter the production team needs a revamp with a clear idea of what the programme is about.

Under Duffys watch, the show became about him and his own personal interests,

Standing joke here about death, grave cancer etc, but there was a large element of truth in that joke

Would more listeners tune in if the show gets a good shake up?

I’d say Terry Prone’s son will throw his hat in the ring

NK clients basically there with Thomas and Whelan. Whelan filled in on one Callan show the - one! That’s next level exaggeration from that “source”.

Should I call in and complain about this atrocious news?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

Wasn’t he off for 2 weeks before returning for 4 days, and now he’s off again for 2 more weeks?

I know, I know……why would you give up such a handy number ??

Oh…….because you're not getting what you demand, is it ?

Am I right in saying that last Friday's LLS was the last in the season?

Timely for Joe to announce his retirement so as to allow him to get his day out on the flagship talk show on the national broadcaster. No way he would step down during the summer - his ego wouldn't allow it

I'm just amazed they didn't drag U2 out on the night to give Joe an oul' motorbike

not sure there is anything wrong with Joe, hopefully not, but he did look rather plump on the Late Late Show

MOD NOTE: I’ve removed some personalised and insulting comments towards the host just because Joe is out the gap soon doesn’t mean it’s open season for disparaging comments about his appearance or accent designed to mock him Please keep the charter in mind while posting Any further posts of this nature will result in bans so please bear that in mind

    Yawn..........

Another break for the great man.

Is he taking all of his annual leave entitlement in the space of 6 months before he is out the gap? If so I do hope his pay is docked accordingly.

Must say I'm surprised that someone is standing in for him for the last few weeks.

I guess he's seeing out his notice with the least amount of effort required.

If KT is the future of Lifeline the traffic on this board will be as sparse as a Funny Friday

Katie in for the week, Joe's fifth week off out of the last nine. 2 weeks off, a four day week last week and gone again. What a joke of a place.

    Today, KT…

Louth beating Meath yesterday…basically GAA FM.

AM Dram from last week, Paul Mescal senior will be talking to KT.

Irish Examiner special about the drug trade in Limerick…apparently leaflets in doors advertising the latest deals, also posters on lamposts etc etc.

Over the weekend it was announced that the average wait time to be seen in A&E is 7.2 hours, is that acceptable for a first world country?…Sorry not a topic for today, there are other topics more important to discuss on the public airwaves like AM Dram 🤔

It's a thundering disgrace what Joe is at. This will be at least the 8th and 9th week he's taken off since the beginning of the year. He should be dropkicked out of the RTE buildings. In his head he probably thinks he's a national treasure and can do what he likes. RTE wouldn't want the agro and negative publicity at this late point when he's almost out the gap. It's no wonder he didn't look for a new contract, as he wouldn't be offered one.

I'd say she's odds on to get it at this point. Considering she does it about half the time anyway as it is - easiest thing for RTE is to put her in charge permanently.

Maybe she'll loosen up if it becomes her gig properly, but I wouldn't have the greatest expectation in that regard. Tbh the list of candidates isn't outstanding.

I might get brick bats for saying this but D'arcy potentially could produce some gold. He's got that opinionated, but slightly dim quality, that might result in some accidentally brilliant car crash radio: which is the only reason I listen to LL.
