It is a long shot but it's not impossible that 2 of those 3 teams will lose their last 2 games. Scarlets are away in SA and Benetton play Glasgow and then Munster.

I've just realised that all four Welsh teams are in SA for their last two pool games, is that a first that four from the same Conference being away to another Conference group.

The QFs kick off times have been announced. All we need now is who'll be the visitors to each of the four games.

    Bulls bulldozing through Cardiff,

24-0 after 27 mins, and camped on Cardiff’s line now, could have try bonus by 30 mins.

Hopefully they won’t loosen up and give Cardiff a chance to get any bonus points.

Cardiff getting ripped to shreds and Bulls replacement fly half looks a solid backup for Goosen

Connacht cannot qualify now as 8th placed side have 46 pts which Connacht cannot reach

Good chance Sharks can pip Glasgow to 3rd place. 1 point between them and Sharks home to scarletts, Glasgow playing Leinster last game

Big win for Benetton and it looks like most of next weeks games will have little on the line. The top 4 is now sealed and if Edinburgh don't beat Connacht they can't qualify for the top 8. Only Scarlets will have any chance of making the top 8.

    Connacht 0-14 Edinburgh at half-time

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,346 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

Ulster, Ospreys, and (regardless of their result v Scarlets tomorrow) Lions are now all officially eliminated too.

Edinburgh will be gone too if they fail to pick up at least two points against Connacht (they are winning though).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

Great competition between Connacht and Edinburgh, 14-14 now with 25 minutes to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

    Connacht 14-21 Edinburgh
    20 mins to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

Unreal battle now, Connacht score and JJ slots the conversion from the sideline,

    21-21

    10 mins to go.

    Brilliant try from Edinburgh 21

    Edinburgh TBP win.

3 places up for grabs between Benetton, Munster, Cardiff, Scarlets and Edinburgh.

Scarlets away to a completely out of it Lions tomorrow. Sneak an away win there and things become very interesting.

Scarlets 14 nil up after 30 mins, so looking good for the win. Can't see them getting anything from the Sharks next week though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,284 ✭✭✭Thrashssacre

Bonus point win and they might not need anything with Munster playing Benetton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

Scarlets getting the BP win, moves them up to 6th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 623 ✭✭✭bingobango12

If Edinburgh win next week, is Munster Benetton now a straight shootout for top 8 with that Scarlets win?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

    Not quite.

An Edinburgh BP win would mean they’d go 3 points higher, and then that would mean Munster would need a win, as they’d have as many wins and a better points diference.

Ulster are away and have nothing left to play for, I wouldn’t trust them to do Munster any favours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,592 ✭✭✭Former Former Former

I see the Munster game kicks off 25 minutes after the Edinburgh one, so going into the final stretch they’ll know exactly what they need.

Think we can assume Scarlets will lose but should still finish in top 8, I think Benetton and Cardiff will lose out.

We never had only one team qualify for the top tier European Rugby competition. Leinster, Munster and Ulster have always qualified since the first tournament. There were even a few seasons we've had all 4 Irish teams qualified

The next season will be the first without Ulster which is huge in itself before you consider Munster might not be there either

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 18,331 Mod ✭✭✭✭CatFromHue

Yeah Munster aren't guaranteed a top 8 finish yet. Benneton haven't had great results on the road but I'm sure both teams for Friday's game against Munster will be playing as if it's a knock out game. I don't see Cardiff beating the Stormers but Edinburgh will fancy themselves at home to Ulster and if Edinburgh win then whoever loses in the Munster game drops out of the top 8.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,106 ✭✭✭Digifriendly

Munster will surely beat Benetton at home. The Italians are a different beast on their own patch than when they travel.

Pete Wilkins to Benneton as attack coach, hope it works out for both parties but a surprising enough appointment
