Richard Hughes tried to sign him last summer, Man City wanted Diaz in part exchange. Liverpool weren't willing to lose Diaz so instead Alvarez moved to Madrid. The speculation about Liverpool again trying to sign him this summer began after the reports of the previous effort became public, coupled with the fact that Nunez will be moved on and he looks like the perfect Simeone type forward.

Given the fact that there are not that many forwards available that fit Liverpool's requirements and could go straight into the team the speculation makes some sense. However as you say the weather is better in Spain, so why would he want to return the cold and damp climate of North West England.

All we can do is wait and see, experience tells us that the reported speculation about transfer targets has been wide of the mark more often than not.

Virgil and De Bruyne are apparently big buddies and holiday together regularly. I also heard De Bruyne was eager to keep his kids in the same schools and was happy to stay in the Northwest.

If the data guys see value in adding De Bruyne to the squad, why not. I don't think wages are a stumbling block if he intends to stay in the premier league.

I don't see the value in signing the likes of De Bruyne. The increasing number of muscle injuries he has suffered the past few seasons, the time he takes to recover and get back his match sharpness has also been increasing.

For midfield, the club should just buy Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace. They could send Tyler Morton the other way to sweeten the deal.

I think he's a Milner type engine in him with more quality, definitely would be a great addition for a few years, top quality and experience.

I'd be happy with de Bruyne

They had Scott Carson for years so it's only fair

    Gary Macca de Bruyne

If he had the same influence it would be great.

    Personally not seeing it though

De Bruyne has declined a lot in the past few years. He misses a good chunk of games through injuries these days.

I'd rather we spend our money on young talent than turn into another Man Utd from a few years ago, ie a retirement home for ex top players.

I hear all the comments about youth etc but there is no way i would turn my nose up at KDB on a 1 year deal (for reasonable wages)

De Bruyne could be a great option from the bench in the last 20 minutes of a match against stubborn opposition.

If you can get him on reasonable wages then why not.

He still managed 11 goal contributions in 25 games this season in the PL even though he was injured a lot.

I'd take him on a low wage with decent bonuses. He'd be a great option to replace Mac Allister or Szobozlai in the last 20 if we needed to unlock a low block.

A reminder that Thiago Silva joined Chelsea at the age of 36 and was one of the best defenders in the league for 4 seasons

Yes he's had injuries but he's never been a pace merchant. Players like him go later into their careers because of their game intelligence not their explosiveness. Modrić another obvious example.

I don't think for a second we'd get him over a Saudi or US club offering massive wages but if our data guys say yes and he wants to play for us then I'm all for it personally. It's not like he's the answer to our biggest transfer problem this summer, if Mac Allister were leaving and he was the replacement then obviously its not the answer, but hed be in addition to our existing options. We'll still be in for a striker, left back and centre half.

If Elliott leaves de Bruyne can easily play the same amount of minutes as he was getting under Slot and even at his age is a better player (sorry Harvey)

if KDB is coming in then more than likely we're gonna cash in on MacAllister, Madrid for €100 mill plus probably his destination

I'm not searching for it but if he was involved in the Sean Cox chant on the plane(which most of the team/backroom staff were) then I think there would be serious kick back from the stands. If he was involved, I wouldn't want him anywhere near a red shirt even if he was on a free and reasonable wages.

Gianluca Di Marzio is the source for the De Bruyne rumour. He reported last August that Raheem Sterling was going to Juventus in an exchange deal for Federico Chiesa and that Victor Osimhen had turned down a move to Chelsea in favour of joining Al-Ahli. Within 24-48 hours, Sterling was at Arsenal, Chiesa signed for Liverpool and Osimhen was on his way to Galatasaray.

    Conclusion: He's a BS artist.

All I'm hearing for next season is that Arsenal only need a striker and they're favourites for winning the league next year.

Arsenal don't have a bench and that's after Arteta has spent 700 million. It was obvious last night.

This summer Arsenal will need to be replacing: Partey, Jorghino, Zinchenko and Tierney are definitely going. Sterling will go back to Chelsea. That's 5 players.

Probably Jesus too. Do they keep Havertz?

Ben White seems to have dropped down the pecking order. Will he be looking for a move?

I think for them to move up another level they would also need to be replacing Marinelli who just didn't deliver in the 2 games against PSG.

They could be in for a big overhaul and they are relying on Saka to carry them.

They'll need a lot more investment in to that squad and not just needing a striker.

James Pearce has burst the KdB bubble

I think Thiago gave us our fair share of high wage, over the hill midfielders for a while. No thanks to KDB

Big contribution to a big season in 2021/22 though.

I think this narrative he was a waste over all needs a bit of nuance

To be honest I think Arteta is doing a great job at Arsenal and hope he gets another 5 years at least to complete the project. Afterwards I hope he has the humility to bring his winning mentality to Everton, I believe he could really take that club somewhere.

Frimpong is a no brainer, especially with his release clause of 30m . He's a wing back, could he really play right back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,503 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

He's a no brainier but not in the sense you mean. Any games I've got seen him play and he has yet to convince me that he has any grey matter to help his decision making. Not the best defender I've ever seen.

he might be a good break-glass-in-case-of-emergency player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,682 ✭✭✭riddles

let’s not replace a right back who can’t defend with the same

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,835 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Frimpong is a very good attacking wingback/right midfielder.

Wouldn't want him as our starting RB, but as someone to cover for Salah/allow him to play more centrally I'd be into it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,667 ✭✭✭Talisman

A lot has been made of the Frimpong's Scouse accent impression, but I don't think it's a reason to believe Liverpool see him as a replacement for the right back position. He's Harvey Elliott's size, so the physical mismatch against Premier League forwards would not be pretty.

He has played more minutes for Leverkusen this season as a #10 than as a conventional fullback. He plays on the right of midfield and helps out the defenders primarily by being an outlet to progress the ball quickly. For the national team Geertruida or Dumfries have the fullback position, Frimpong plays as a winger in Salah's position. He has twice filled in as a fullback and on both occasions been replaced.

Bradley deserves the opportunity to make the position his own. People make a thing of his injuries, but they could be attributed to the fact that he's playing at an elite level club and was kept out of the team for long spells by Alexander-Arnold's availability. Getting muscle injuries as he did this season is always a risk when coming into the team cold.

He needs a backup option equivalent to Tsimikas who can come in and do the job when needed. Yukinari Sugawara from Southampton could be that player, he also has the versatility to fill in at centre back or on the right wing.

Slot confirming Bradley starting. Will be good for him to get more game time. Likely tactical, but possibly to let TAA who is boss. He also said that there are a few options for RB, Bradley, Jones … but would like to see Bradley get that run and build on the game time just like Trent did. He can be a fantastic player.
