Nord VPN works perfectly on Fire Stick, PC and phone.

Proton vpn is free for a few countries on the Firestick apps. I use it and find it's ok for what I need.

Windscribe auto starts and you can have it active for certain apps so UK is on but only for itvx, bbc etc.

Usually windscribe is on offer for 20 a year

Now this sounds really handy, although it seems to be in $ - but presumably you've had no issues?

No issues, I signed up 2 years ago when it was 19 dollars a year and price is maintained.

    They're a good crowd.

So if I download BBC iPlayer then start it up, windscribe will automatically connect to UK? And then if I come out and click on RTE player, it will know to turn the VPN off?

Do any other VPNs do that?

    Also, does it block ads?

For example when I load live TV on RTE or Virgin media it often plays a ton of ads first, can you block them on firestick?

    Not that I'm aware of.

I've had ExpressVPN for years firestick, phone PC etc. It's probably one of the more expensive but never let me down …and I've lived in China !! (where very few work)

for streaming its the best imo - for other things id use others

I've been using NordVPN for a couple of years now with little hassle - the BBC is the main offender and it's usually sorted by just reconnecting to get a different exit point. There're good offers if you keep an eye out, I think I'm paying just over €3 p/m on 6 devices which when all's said and done for all the stuff I use it for (including when connecting to WiFi hotspots) is a bargain. It's also fun trying to figure out where live events aren't geoblocked from (Belgium for southern hemisphere rugby, or Argentina for World Cup cyclocross anybody?)

Anyone having issues with Firesticks and Getflix SmartDNS ? Have 2 Firesticks and neither work since recently. No UK tv players working but when I revert to the VM DNS on the Firestick, the Channel 4 app loads. Using the Getflix Dublin DNS server and I have forced IP updates in Getflix to no avail. On a 31. IP address with VM. Network status testing okay on the Firestick with decent speeds. Constantly warning that Amazon Home cannot be reached. All suggestions appreciated.

I stopped using smartdns proxies a while ago for this very reason - I found they were much more hassle than using a VPN.

Reading similar reports on Reddit seems to be possibly issues with their servers not being updated and blacklisted. If this is the case not much you can do. This is speculative and I could be wrong also - sorry I cant offer any suggestions.

widscribe is now shutting down a lot of people for overlimits and to many devices

    the Channel 4 app loads

Doesn't the C4 app work in Ireland regardless? I haven't used it in a while but it used to, at least for catch-up - I don't think live TV worked. That would have been Android so with Fire YMMV

The point I was trying to make was that currently with Getflix SmartDNS running, Amazon Home cannot be reached and consequently nothing works on the Firesticks, not even the Channel 4 app which loads on the VM DNS. Getflix SmartDNS is killing the Firesticks.

Try the Firestick in a different TV maybe. Also fully disconnect the TV from the mains, not just a switch off. I've a Philips Android TV and pulling the mains completely forces an Android reboot.

    Suggestions from Amazon Support.

Fire TV Logo Stuck on TV Screen

Looking at that picture it looks like your remote is broken not the stick. You can google how to reset the remote but I found it rarely works. To test if its the remote I suggest you take the 'suspect' remote and try add it as an remote to another firestike. !

And change the batteries if it hasnt been done in a while.

Don't know if this has been asked before but is anybody having issues with error 02050 on the Firestick and iPlayer?

It's a PITA and so far I've found the only way to solve it is to force stop iPlayer, clear the cache and restart, then it will work for the first thing you want to play but won't work for the next.

I've also tried matching my location in my BBC account with the server in the VPN, with much the same result. I'm using Surfshark.
