Considering recency bias is always a thing in these polls, maybe just eliminate it by having "The best 250 songs of the last three months." :)

Did I hear that TodayFM were giving away tickets to a Roan gig a few days after she topped the poll?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,656 ✭✭✭✭flazio

She's headlining Electric Picnic. Anyone who voted in the poll were eligible to enter a draw for tickets.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,890 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Ah right, so a lot of folk were voting just to get tickets. Makes sense now.

I thought maybe there was a deal where the promoters said, "we'll give you free tickets if you make sure our headliner is top of your list". Then again, that could happen too.

And Mr Brightside would still be in the poll. At Number 2.

Simple solution to the Music Master dumbing down dilemma; take the head to head winner and give them a final round just like before, where they can guess an artist from the year and place of birth plus a lyric, just like before. Winner gets the €250 and certificate.

Listened to the new Music Master for the first time, there. Dave reads out a message after it, along the lines of "I no longer get anxiety and palpitations listening to Music Master, I'm just fine all the way through." Dave goes "That's great, isn't it?" with not a hint of irony… Maybe he just doesn't get sarcasm?

I thought Quilty had got a bit of a hospital pass with a "musicals" show but the fact its actually soundtracks gives him huge freedom and himself and Paula are my 2 favourites of the 10 O'Clock slate.

As much as Quilty became a joke long before ever appearing on TodayFM due to one posters fixation on him I do actually like him. He was somewhat giddy at the start of his appearances but has settled brilliantly imo.

    Dara Quilty is excellent imo.

Their best presenter by a country mile. Nice little addition of Quiltys Quiz this week too.

    I agree, Quilty is great.

Love the snippets - Quilty, you gowl

good chemistry between Foley and Shauna this week

Dara Quilty is absolutely excellent. Head and shoulders above most of the other presenters on the station imo. I shouldn't like him… but I do!

It must be the case that being the filler-in guy suits his own personal situation, because he's surely worth a regular day time slot and I reckon his bosses probably think likewise.

I believe he's also a music producer of something along those lines and he spends a lot of time in America

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,560 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Yeah, I started following him on Insta recently and he seems to be over in California quite a bit. I think he may actually have done a Today FM show from there.

We're massaging his ego here if he's reading this ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,645 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

    Hope he's enjoying the massaging.

Listening to Dave Moore this morning in comparison is just awful. I think he said multiple things were "unbelievable" in the space of 30 seconds at one point.

The disparity in quality is night and day.

Don't forget that everyones a 'Legend' and he can't go 5 minutes without mentioning his wife is an artist or mentioning his kids.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,645 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Yep, the show is so boring, after only a couple of years of being solo. Ruining Music Master is the biggest crime, worse than his legend and unbelievable hyperbole.

Remember that Simpsons joke a few years back, when the local Springfield DJs are threatened with replacement with the DJ 3000? The DJ 3000, pre-programmed with five phrases, could easily replace Dave:

    1. "Do you wash your legs in the shower?"
    2. "Legend"
    3. "Have you been to Ireland before?"
    4. "Unbelievable"
    5. "I love this."

No one will know the difference, especially with the playlist all controlled centrally now as well.

Dara's Tuesday night show is probably the one thing on the TodayFM schedule that I'll actually make an effort to listen to.

He would have been brilliant in the lunchtime slot, but apparently not having a regular slot suits him.

Didn't realise Foley was doing the breakfast show, was wondering why he was taking another week's holidays.

I swith off Quilty immediately, I just can't warm to him.

Sorry but I cannot stand by while all this Quilty praise is ongoing. A complete oddball and an immediate change of the dial once he starts talking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,558 ✭✭✭DBK1

I’m the same, can’t stand him. Today fm is the only station I listen too really but have to switch it off when he’s on. Everything he does is dragged out to fill time. Like his one note game and credit where credits due, that could take up 15 mins some days with all the talk about it and “tense” music playing in the background going through guesses. He drives me mad listening to him and I can never figure out the praise he gets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭EveryoneKnowsNobodyCares

No Dave this morning. Alison Curtis is filling in for him. But she's not doing Music Master? Not mention of it when I switched on at 10. I know she butchered it in the old format but surely she couldn't go wrong with the current format? Or maybe she doesn't want to...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,645 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

She can't cos she always f***ed up the original one so they just stopped when she would cover.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭EveryoneKnowsNobodyCares

Seems very plausible. Did it even get a mention this morning?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,645 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

No idea, Newstalk on Thursdays for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 651 ✭✭✭For Petes Sake

Not trying to dismiss your opinion of Dara Quilty but surely all radio presenters are oddballs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭EveryoneKnowsNobodyCares

Missed this morning around 10. Did Music Master happen? Alison replaced Dave again

Related question. Have Today FM given up making shows available for playback? There seems to be no playback option on their app any more, and there's nothing on their website since the weekend.
