Jobseekers Allowance Means Test

    Hi - just checking how Means Test is calculated, as have been recently turned down for JSA.

    My understanding was that the formula they use is:

    First 20,000 disregard

    20,00 to 30,000 assessed at E1 per 1000.00

    30,000 to 40,000 assessed at E2 per 1000.00

    40,000 and over assessed at E4 per 1000.00

    In my case when they have come to the balance for 30,000 to 40,000 they have then assessed the entire balance therafter which puts me over the limit, whereas if it had been 40,000 and up I would have been under. Have I got it wrong?

    So if someone have 55k savings they get 90 per week? What's the amount if under 10k savings are there

    My understanding of the above example is the €90 is deducted from the total amount of JSA available… €244 for single claim?

    Under €10k is not assessable and will not affect a JSA claim.

    55000-

    20000=
    35000.

    25000= -€10

    15000=-€20

    15000=€15X4=€60.00

    €60+€10+€20=€90.00

    If you have €55000 in savings then your means from your savings alone is €90.

    €90 to be deducted from your max payment of JSA (€244) = €244-€90=€154.00

    The disregard for savings is 20000. So 10000 wouldn’t affect your entitlement.
    They look for 3 months of statements.
    Any withdrawals or transfers unexplained in that time will need an explanation before the payment application can move forward.

    Can you take a picture of the means as they have calculated it, obscuring all identifying info, and post it here?
