Leaving Tipp in this one by being casual and showboating. Can't be doing that.

We're still comfortable here but i hope we don't end up ruing failing to beat Clare in Ennis.

Really still should be making the Munster final. 5 points probably get you in it.

Very happy with that no silly sendings off and a comfortable win over the old enemy. Let's knuckle down now and give Limerick plenty of it in the Gaelic Grounds the next day.

We were extremely sloppy but maybe it's just best to look sloppy now.

Plenty to improve on. Waterford showing we will have be on our guard against them

Far from easyy game but we will enjoy this one.

We weren't even on top form and we still gave Tipp a nice comfortable beating. One more win should do but Limerick and indeed Waterford as well will be much tougher propositions than what we faced today.

is there a balancing act needed for later on in the year, ye look scary early in games but have huge drop off points in the middle 3rd of games , is there a way to even coach that i dont know , but it is slightly evediant , brian hayes with another serious display , brian roache has impressed me too with his work rate any time he has come on

Munster U20 football final on TG4 tonight, 7:30 throw in. Hopefully we can improve on the earlier game v Kerry

Cork gave 14 man Tipp a nice beating.

Completely different prospect with 15 men.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,964 ✭✭✭eigrod

another appalling half of football. Some of them simply can’t do the basics. Kerry will be disappointed not to be further ahead.

Cork 0-3 Kerry 1-8 HT. Goal just before half time from a poor fumble from a Cork defender on the 14m line in front of goal

Sorry for not quoting your post the quote post function never works for me on the phone for some reason. I still reckon Cork would have won regardless really and Tipp being down to 14 men was their problem not ours.

It was up to us to take advantage of that and we did. Things will get substantially tougher though when the action resumes against Limerick in a couple of weeks.

Cork 0-3 Kerry 2-10, 35min. Same old story unfortunately

Am watching it on TG4.Please make it stop..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,356 ✭✭✭zetecescort

1-10 to 2-15 FT. Cork with a goal and a few points in the last 5 min but the game was well over by then

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,897 ✭✭✭Seadin

That's a good beating. Honest question and some here might know the answer, how are cork so far off Kerry in the minor and u20 grades last few years? Are Kerry that good that we can't even compete with them? This is a worry going forward for the seniors too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,658 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

I think we have to be very honest here and say Cork football is at crisis point.

The big worry is that County Board dont really seem all that bothered.

The management are miles off it, but sadly so are players. Not blaming these fine lads for being best we have but it was men against boys stuff.

Louth 20s managed a 5-14 to 0-12 win against Cork in early March and the 19s dev squad took a much heavier result against Mayo the week before that, so not sure if writing it off as Kerry being a great side covers the bases (though, they are an incredibly talented bunch - some positives to be taken from the first ~20 minutes today up until that final shot/pass).

You'd imagine a bit of an overhaul needed. Hopefully folks with feet on the ground there with the passion & knowledge to help make it happen.

Even more worrying for me is in 2022 this Minor team (U17) won Munster final beating Kerry 3:11 to 0:9 - they lost to Kerry in an earlier game that same year 1:16 to 0:5, so the final win was probably a surprise but still - last evening it looked competitive for the first 15 but after that…

    Not too bad.

Group 4 is going to be fun to follow.

4 up at ht in the U20. Some very poor wides from us. This game should be over already but a few scores just before ht gives us the 4 point lead. Waterford look very poor but there is still second half to come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,748 ✭✭✭The White Feather

We responded much better in he second half to run out comfortable winners.

    Cork 3-21 Waterford 0-18

Some good performances in the second half. The 2 Barrys, O Sullivan played well and Johnie Murphy as a sub looks very athletic. Walsh had 2-4 and Finn O Brien and Adam Osullivan both had 3 points.

Wateford looked very poor and had really poor wides. A couple of their defenders seemed strong in the air though in fairness.

We now play Clare at home on Wed May 7th at 7.30pm. Winner plays Tipp in Munster Final

good showing from the minors, led 1-12 to 0-8 at HT and won 2-17 to 1-12. Tipp goal soon after HT could have made it tight but we never left them closer than 4 points before our second goal after 50 min.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,748 ✭✭✭The White Feather

You could really sense we were not killing ourselves but still did enough. We will be playing Waterford in the final wich is surprising, I thought Clare would win that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,485 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

waterford have got there act together at this level , this has been a fine team this year ,they will be dangerous opponents in the final , i have noticed there is a massive difference between u17 teams 3 years ago and u20 teams this year especially with cork , i think u17 could be taken with an extra pinch of salt its not the same as the old minor division at u18 , cork have looked far better at this level than 3 years ago at u17 level for example

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,748 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Yes its good to see they seem to be on the right track but I still thought Clare would beat them. I would still expect Cork to beat them but you never know at this level.

I have been so busy the past week that I never posted about the Cork v Tipp game! So here goes my tuppence worth. The main thread seemed to have jumped the shark going on about fouls, sending offs and who fiegned injuries or didn't! What was weird is I was saying to someone just before throw in, that I think Cork will win but you never know as a red card can really affect things like the Cork v Clare game the pevious week. 2 seconds later there is a red card!

It was great that we put the game to bed after 20 mins getting 3 goals as there have been many games where suddenly you wouldn't even realise that a team is down to 14 and it ends up really close. Then I thought it wsa great that we generally eased off after that. We just kept them at bay and we learned from the Clare game that if we just don't concede goals,we will see the game out. I was concerned about humiliating Tipp too as we could end up playing them again so just win the game handily and don't go crazy. Otherwise they will come back all motivated and ready to get us back for it!

We got our subs right this week too and Shefflin pointed this out too in his analysis. We lost our shape completely in the Clare game with subs coming on. The Robbie O'Flynn cameo with 2 points was very pleasing as he is now pushing the starters for a place already. 2 points and looked electric. Barrett will be back against Limerick too so picking the team isn't easy. Who do we leave out? Dalton? He was very good against Tipp although the red card has to taken into account. Harnedy looked very rusty against Clare but looked sharp v tipp and he got 70 mins so that really helps him. I just read Michael Mullins played very well for his club yesterday so he sounds like he is back to full fitness. Cormac O'Brien looks to be ok now too so he might replace Coleman. Coleman played well but gave away 2 points v tipp from overcarrying and a foul throw. He definitely comes close to over carrying a lot as thats its style but 2 points can be very costly when the game is close. His distribution is very good though and its hard to change a winning team.

The break comes at a great time for us wheres I feel sorry for Waterford today having to play in 6 days. I don't think Waterford will win anymore games but you never know. They are strong at home though and it will be interesting to see how Limerick do tonight as we play them next. They seem to be off form but as they say, form is temporary, class is permanent. I can't decide if they have gone backward or just waiting to get going! Probably the latter! When I think of Waterford away, I just think of the game last year where Conor Lehane missed so many easy scores that we ended up in trouble and then beaten. Note he hasn't really featured in the Cork team since. If, and of course its a big if, we were to beat Limerick then I hope the likes of him and Jack O'Connor get a game against Waterford at home but I doubt they will get back in otherwise.

Moving on to the U20s, If you saw the football game against Kerry, the game was only a few minutes old and we were moving out of defence with the ball. No score at this time (I think). Cork player passes the ball in front of another Cork player and it is about 5 feet ahead of him but he is running on to it. Then a Kerry player who is further away about 10 feet closes in and I thought to myself, brace for impact! Cork player should be winning the ball as he is closer. The kerry player blows the Cork player out of it (legally now, like a football collision) and gets the ball and sets up score. No reaction at all from Cork players when this happened by the way. I knew straight away this isn't going to go well. Then think of the hurling U20 game against Limerick on 6th April where it was a draw in the 57th min and a limerick player outfights the Cork players gaining possession near the sideline but is promply shouldered out over the line by a Cork player. With another cork player right there too. Thereby giving us a sideline. This to me is the difference. I know these are just 2 isolated incidences but they tell a lot about mindset. Not saying to foul but you have to be physical. Before the minor hurling game last night, the Cork players were bouncing off each other and I was thinking lads, take it easy, you might injure each other!! I don't really see that mindset in the underage footballers at all.

Anyway, thats my few thoughts for the moment. I'm hoping for a good game tonight down in Waterford. It will be interesting to watch.I think Limerick will pull away handsomely in second half but who knows what drama will unfold?!!

Well, Kerry usually hammer us in the underage mens football but we won the Munster Minor Ladies Football final today by hammering them!

The Limerick game in a few weeks will be the perfect game for one of these teams to make a statement of intent. Hopefully the team making the statement will be Cork. Limerick are a great team and i have every respect for them, but any fears that our players had about Limerick was abolished last summer imo. For all the success Limerick have enjoyed since 2018, i'd still rate that Kilkenny team at it's peak under Brian Cody as being better than them.
