I've been left wondering for a few years now, coaches come and coaches go but Cullen remains… exactly what does he do that adds value to this team? apart from nostalgia before incoming academy players were born.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

You have to hand it to Northampton. They emptied themselves to win that game away from home.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

this would be so silly if it’s true. Barrett is here for these games.

Henshaw offered very little. Just ran into contact over and over.

There are no 35 year olds though…, Healy who “started” but that was a tactically call.

Keenan,TOB,Ringrose, Henshaw, Prendergast,Doris,VDF,Deegan,McCarthy,Sheehan,Porter from the starting team* from the starting if fit and on form will definitely make the World Cup with JGP,Lowe,Furlong maybes but not to be ruled out…so out of the 14 Irish players there 11 have a good chance of making the WC…again, how is that an “aging” side?

    *counting Porter for obvious reasons

And nothing to do with the actual conceding of the 37 points?

It’s baffling, you have two groups here, those who can’t countenance any criticism of Leo, and those who hang everything on the 10 in a 23 man game

there were 6k at Munsters 1st Heineken cup game in Nov 1995. The Leinster Lions had 4k at their first home game.

No he said it went forward off the NH player from the rip, but that the ball hit the corner flag before grounding so it wasn’t a try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 607 ✭✭✭TheSunIsShining

Makes sense actually. But bizarrely the ref 100% said it was because the ball hit the flag post...

There was no decision coming from the line. Conan and Prendergast were shouting across asking what they wanted to do and it seemed like Prendergast made the decision himself in the absence of anyone else doing so.

He is perfectly entitled to attempt to ground the ball in goal (inches away) after he's tackled and stopped short.

So, maybe you should go read the Laws yourself before being obnoxious.

Here here. A super result for Northampton. Showed a real ability to learn from loosing big matches and come back a year later with a plan and win against the odds.

Leinster yet again make all the wrong decisions at the end of the game. Clueless cup rugby. 5 stars further and further away.

He's been poor all season, and still got the start. Healy over Boyle, like what was the he thinking there? McGrath also should've been brought on, why even have him on the bench if he's never going to be trusted to play?

Congratulations to Northampton. A famous win that will hopefully propel them to the title and good luck to them.

One of the few certainties in these crazy times is that Leinster will once again bottle it and sh*t the bed when it really matters. Considering the resources this club has compared to other Irish sides their record over the last number of years is inexcusable.

I don't know what it will take to turn this shower of perennial underachieving losers into a winning team. I thought the addition of the Barrett, Snyman and a world cup winning coach would finally do it, but it seems even that is not enough. Just like the Irish team at world cups, when the pressure is on they mentally collapse. They are serial bottlers and the biggest underachievers in world rugby. The only Irish winner today is Crowley, because Prendergast has been found out. Big time. He should not be anywhere near a Lions team. The other loser today was Nienaber. Incredible to think just a couple of weeks ago, the rugby world was oohing and ahhing at Leinster not conceding a single point in over 160 minutes of rugby. Where was that much vaunted defensive system today? Northampton tore it to shreds. Lancaster will no doubt have a smirk on his face after watching that shambles.

Finally Cullen is a fraud. A total fraud. I have been a Leinster fan for decades, but I will no longer support this team as long as he is being paid to lead it. I don't give a damn if he comes back with a URC title this year, that would only paper over the cracks. He just is not up to it at this level. I don't know what the solution is, but the culture of a side comes from the top and the buck stops with him. He cannot escape responsibility for this sh*t show. He has failed over and over again and needs to be shown the door.

Given the age profile of key players our side like JGP, I can only see a period of significant decline ahead. The coaching ticket have p*ssed away a golden generation of players. What a waste.

It’s an absolute no brainer for anyone. Conan shouldn’t need the line or anyone else (tho they probably should have made it clear anyway).

Pretty close to middle of field and very kickable - Barrett would have slotted it no hassle if Prendergast didn’t want it.

That’s gotta be one of the dumbest and most arrogant decisions in Rugby in a long, long, time. Genuinely can’t recall anything near it.

I can't see JGP, Henshaw, Ringrose, Furlong, Lowe, Conan still being in the Irish team come world cup. All in the twilight zone. All great players, but players don't get better in their 30s from their 20s and defo not in mid 30s.

I just hope we have replacements for them in time.

Leo is a decent guy, but he has to go if they want to win. Professional rugby is cut-throat, complete lack of leadership when Doris went off. Said it before I dont warm to this team , like with the teams from the past, hoovering up talent like Man City in football and the collision 'South African' style has turned me off. Maybe a return to the more entertaing running style of a decade ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭CalmaftertheGav

That’s 6 out of 23 players…again, how is that an “aging side”? Or are Ireland the only side in the world that aren’t allowed have plays +32?

Ball was touching the corner flag when grounded, was the reason for no try was how I took it.

Brain dead decision making at the end.

Prendergast's absolute inability to tackle/defend exposed badly again today.

Brought Barrett in to win Europe - seems kind of pointless now.

10 central contracts or whatever it is, 2 world cup winners, 12 Irish internationals starting another 4 on the bench, home advantage through the knockouts and still can't do it.

No point in cruising through the URC every season if they faulter in Europe every time they meet a team who can put it up them.

Cullen surely has to go at this stage.

What I don’t get is why are Leinster taking 3 at the beginning of the game when it’s right but then with 5 minutes to go when the game is tight they turn it down…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,913 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Nah, I understand not wanting Ross Byrne to have a go at that one.

Because they **** the bed every time a crucial match is tight

The one aspect of the game RB is decent at is goal kicking. I assumed that was why he was brought on

Another year another crushing disappointment. Once again when I looked at the team selected I was worried we hadn't selected our best starting team and had perhaps underestimated the challenge. Unfortunately, the common denominator now is Leo Cullen and I expect he'll step aside now.

Beaten by the better team to be fair, and full credit to Northampton for some incredible attacking rugby.
