Don't mind him, he has form. Totally not worth it.

He played poorly, but at least three trys came from Northampton bringing the ball right to the line and pop passing to a support runner. They generate multiple line breaks.

It was a complete victory for Dowson. He ripped apart the Nienaber defence and anyone trying to pin the loss on one player is simply agenda baiting.

21.15 If the ball or ball-carrier touches a corner flag or corner flag post without otherwise being in touch or touch-in-goal, play continues unless the ball is grounded against the post.

Need to see it back but I don't think it was grounded against the post?

Imagine not starting your best 15 in a semi final.
The only good thing about this is that it’s the end of Cullen.

    I know.

He's one of the coterie that does it regularly.

Leinster don't have that killer instinct, I feel sorry for the players, the coaches need to take a hard look at themselves.

Our teams lack something, we need to be killers

For me, any speculation that SP should even be in the lions squad (not to mind being starting 10) is 100% put to bed after today. That being said it was a very exciting match and I’m very disappointed for Leinster- I really didn’t see Northampton pulling out that performance

Who is responsible for addressing that and has not done so for 5 plus years?

I hope that answers all the questions that Prendergast shouldn't be a no 10 for lions or Ireland going forward, he is overhyped and not fit for purpose.

SA missed Felix more than Nienaber. As for Cullen, his reign has been nothing short of a disaster. Throw in more than a little arrogance (not taking the 3pts, pundits predicting a 20pt win and saying Barrett will start the final) an aging team with no pace, a speed bump at 10 (who pundits were saying could see Russell not selected for the Lions), a captain refs don't respect, a weak bottling mentality and all in all not a shocking result at all.

I thought that last year. In football he would have been gone. Now it is inevitable that he does.

    100%.
Leinsters defensive system was torn apart.

This system really does seem to be feast or famine. For most teams it dominates but if a team is good enough to deal with the blitz and physicality then the system is so vulnerable.

I don’t think this system will deliver Leinster a European cup and I said the same thing last year when the Bulls destroyed it.

you can’t say arrogance isn’t a part of that loss, both on the field and off.

Fans were in the final already, the club was tweeting about the final as well.

    Wouldn’t start Barrett.

Wouldn’t take the 3 and secure the draw, and made that same decision twice. Terrible call. Leinster would have romped home in ET

Wouldn’t take prendergast off until to late.

I don’t take any great satisfaction from Leinster losing, it’s not good for Irish rugby, but hopefully the positives from this is to realise prendergast is far from finished, Ringrose and henshaw are past their prime and won’t be good enough for the next RWC and the Irish mgt can start to see that.

Height of arrogance to turn down 3 with few minutes left. Deserved to lose for that decision alone.

I don’t think any team in any sport has underachieved to the extent Leinster has in the last four years. No trophies from 7 chances with the squad they have is ridiculous.

There is no doubt if Cullen were from elsewhere he would be getting the door, if he hadn’t got it already.

Shocking to see Leinster fans booing ref decisions, had been led to believe by the esteemed boards posters that only happened at other provincial grounds.

Never mind taking the 3 points...NH down to 13 men, no 5 gone off and they decide to tap and go instead of taking a line out. Like talk about lack of leadership or any sort of cool head thinking. All they had to do was spread it out wide from a line out and they would have eventually outnumbered NH.

No idea how we managed to lose possession in the last play, such poor execution at the most critical time.

The person responsible for putting it together hasn’t. Nice chap. Out of his depth

It took Munster 6 years from 2000 to 2006 to win the Heineken. Same as this Leinster team, making the breakthrough and winning the first is everything.

Munster even had their 'epic' semi loss with Wasps in 2004. Bought Christian Cullen. A lot of parallels.

Munster were smart the spun losing 2 finals and 3 semis as a great journey and sold dvds about heroic losses.

You miss understand clegg. I'm not pinning the loss on one player. Plenty of Leinster players didn't turn up/werent allowed to dictate the game.

But when you have a 10 that can't perform unless they are behind a dominant pack you can't expect to win.

That's even ignoring him being a defensive liability.

There's one link on them all though
    Cullen should be sacked tonight

leaving Barrett and Conan and Slimani on the bench , and thus not starting your best 15 in an ERC semi final is unforgivable .

What was most shocking was how out-coached Leinster looked - particularly with the defensive system which really exposes our back's lack of pace when it's breached. We know about their mental frailty in big games, Prendergast's weaknesses in defence / lack of speed, Henshaw - no speed etc. but the way Northampton cut the defence to ribbons was both impressive and deeply worrying. They've gone backwards under Nienabar.

Even the fairest minded supporter would have to think Cullen's position is becoming untenable. It's been years of consistent failure in all the big games and that bottle mentality is at risk of infesting the Irish team.

Don't think Leinster fans can be complaining about shenanigans in the ruck, they're no angels there themselves. Both teams got away with a lot. It's arguable that Deegan's offload off the deck three seconds after he was tackled should have seen a try disallowed so it goes both ways.

For all the talk about Prendergast's potential he's not ready for top end rugby. He can't defend. Whatever about his attempt on Pollock, his miss on Augustus was far worse. His kicking from the tee was also very poor and had he slotted one or two more Leinster would now be in a final.

Biggest issue today was Leinster's defence. Didn't think I'd be saying that about a Nienaber coached side but there you go. Northampton targeted the fringe of the ruck and then went wide. Fair play to them. They were excellent. Pollock and Smith are stars.

I couldn't really follow what the ref was saying due to his use of French, his heavily accented english and the bad sound quality

    but

I thought he said that it went forward from VdF during the attempted rip on the ground? Hence no try?

The average age is 29…how is that an “ageing” team?

Heroic from Northampton....a superb result for the competition and the neutral..…

The Leinster arrogance is as bad as the English of the 90s....

The OP said "we're going to batter them" in his opening post....
