So now the Australians have done a Canada: re-elected the centre-left, rejected the centre-right, and turfed the opposition leader out of his parliamentary seat.

Call it the Trump Effect: like Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving.

The term "Liberal" is used for the centre-right party in Oz and the center-left party in Canada. This must tax the limited mental capacity of many of the MAGA crowd.😀

Pretty telling that you didn't answer a direct question about being American

    https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/us-citizen-immigration-lawyers-being-asked-to-leave-country/3813464/

Immigration lawyers have been told to leave the country or face deportation. They're mainly US citizens… Sounds pretty draconian to me but I'm sure you'll justify that too.

    Dr. Lisa Anderson, for one.

I'll admit this now, I'm not certain I'm correct, but being deported is a civil matter not criminal? Therefore that person would not necessarily be an illegal criminal?

    "Critics erupt"

    Mission accomplished by Trump so.

Its a joke, a poor one, yet people never fail to take the bait.

Relentlessly attacking state sponsored institutions that could hinder the great steal. The heads of many state organisations are appointed by you know who so they owe their allegiance to him , not to the organisation. Given the calibre of the typical appointee it's doubtful that allegiance to the state is their top priority.

The land of the free™ now has less press freedom than places that Trump would refer to as "shíthole nations" like Liberia.

Banning non-sycophantic press from the White House, cracking down on places that train or employ journalists. Remember that the vast majority of spending on Advertising was stolen from the traditional medial by the social media companies , the ones that are almost certainly targeting misleading political lies ads based on individuals profile.

The US Government Accountability Office is on the hit list.

Any regulatory organisation. Including the ones where the regulations are written in blood. Expect lots of selling off stealing of state resources. You don't need to buy the land, just get the mineral rights, You don't need to get all the rights to water, just the plot where the source or bottleneck is.

It's relentless. Even where it's been rolled back it's not a win , the best is the status quo and they will circle back later after removing other defences.

There's a ridiculous theory that if you make peoples life hard while promising to make things better they'll have more reason to support you, until the wheels fall off. So far it's hard to distinguish that from Trump's behaviour. Of course the attacks on healthcare will result in excess deaths and it's pre-meditated.

    The bait?

I don't think people outside the US fully understand that he means for Canada and Greenland to be "liberated".

Even if he had a stroke in the morning we'd still be left with antagonistic loons with zero sense of either history and proportion.

So, that dips*it posts a picture of himself as pope. Now I wonder what heinous authoritarian crap his administration has done in the last 24 hours that hasn't received much media attention. They are like conmen at tourists spots. One person makes a big distraction while his accomplices pick pockets everyone.

If blowback from his tariffs gets hot he'll try to provoke a unifying war.

Maybe it's a test of JD's Catholic loyalty 😀 Not a whisper about the colour of the suit.

    Exactly. Hey look over there…

I don't think people outside the US fully understand that he means for Canada and Greenland to be "liberated".

No he doesnt, its all bluster.

I have concluded that Trump has decided to keep stretching the borders of the SCOTUS ruling on what are his Official Presidential Duties by using the Alien Enemies Act as a tool to test how far he can lawfully push things. I reckon that there are senior members of his White House team, along with members of his Admin cabinet, who are offering him advice to carry on doing so, as it is him, and not them, who will be held accountable should he go too far outside the limits of official duties.

They are using him to deliberately cause a rupture between the lower federal courts and SCOTUS. Their plea will be that they were only advisors and are sorry that they erred in understanding what SCOTUS and the constitution's wording actually meant. I include his present AG, Pam Bondi, in that group of advisors.

Reading an article in the papers about Louis Theroux's "The Settlers" documentary, the last few lines were a quote from Edward Said "In the history of colonial invasions, maps are always first drawn by the victors, since maps are instruments of conquest". Reading that puts me in mind of what Trump said questioning the validity of the US/Canadian border calling it "an artificially drawn line".

The least risky manoeuvre would be to deploy extra personnel to the US bases in Greenland, leaving the Danes with a fait accompli and end up with a withdrawal of X amount of the newcomers back to the US in exchange for a favourable bonus for Trump on the political front at home.

Do you think the president of the United States should be spending his time posting stupid ****ing stuff in order to bait people on social media, or perhaps focus on what he is being paid to do, lead the country, solve the Ukraine conflict, deal with the Israel conflict, sort out healthcare, infrastructure, the economy?

    Of course you don't.

Because no matter what he does wrong, you will never, ever take issue with it.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

Remind me, what happened the last time JD met the pope?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,566 ✭✭✭Economics101

Regarding Trump's dismissal of the US-Canadian border as an "artificially drawn line", one can't help noticing that many if not most borders between US States are artificially drawn lines. Would the Orange Clown support Nebraska or Kansas if they treid to adjust the straight-line borders they have with Colorado and reduce the size of a Blue state?

There could be no end to this chicanery.

It’s still so weird that his supporters call this all “bluster”.

Umm…. shades of "The Pope Must Die" with Robbie Coltrane. JD's trip took hours longer, in either direction, than the audience with the Pope did.

Trump may be posting on Truth Social about Warren Buffett and his take on Trump tariffs and Berkshire Hathaway with investors from it coming from across the world to attend the event. Tariffs were the top subject that shareholders asked about in the questions they sent ahead of time into the CNBC reporter who will grill Buffett and his top two managers throughout the day. Buffett had previously declined to discuss the topic on everyone's minds ahead of the meeting. For some reason the article covering the event doesn't identify where it took place.

Charlie Monger of Berkshire Hathaway called Trump batshít crazy back in 2012.

    They'll carefully parce their words.

I saw a CBS News piece about a year ago from eastern Oregon where there’s a movement who are trying to redraw the state boundary so they’ll be part of Idaho instead. Western Oregon is more liberal, whereas the eastern side is conservative, so they feel that being part of Idaho would suit them better.

It’s telling, they’ve nothing positive to say about anything Trump is doing, so they just say he is deflecting (he isn’t, by the way, he wants Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,409 ✭✭✭yagan

Are you getting confused with the State of Jefferson movement?

At what point can you tell when it is or isn't?

Everything about Trump, absolutely everything, gives evidence of a narcissistic attention seeker. This is just the latest example.

That's who Trump is, we all know that at this stage. That was clear from the primary debates 9 years ago.

But what this episode does do that makes it noteworthy is demean the White House once again. The official White House Twitter account has looked like it has been taken over by Donald Jr these last few months and it reposting Trumps post is further evidence of that.

Aside from all that, is this what you want from your President as the country enters a recession of your making? That coupled with the rejection of Trump style politics in Canada and Australia this week, it's not going very well for the Trumpster, is it?
