Honestly hope that they are not rushing Amad back with the view of having him ready to play in home leg of semifinal.

Amorim may feel under pressure to save something from what has being a very underwhelming first Season in charge.

Or just feels under pressure to try get CL football which would allow him to do more in the transfer market. As someone said winning the EL could be the difference between having the money to sign someone like Osimhen or just having the money to sign someome like Delap.

If there ever was time to rush someone back, this would be it

If we can get a draw or even a 1 goal loss in Bilbao I'd rather not risk him at all on Thursday. Give him 20 to 30 minutes against Brentford then start him in the home leg. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I think we'll get to the final. Call it the universe correcting the season or whatever but I just feel it.🤷‍♂️

Amorim confirmed that MDL and Amad will be in tomorrows match day squad.

This chap reckons the Cunha deal is all but done. I'm not sure how reliable he is.

I think we should go for Ramos at PSG, he has 17 goals in 1118 minutes which is a good return, Bruno is a fan also.

    Would be pretty attainable imo.

It's the night before a european semi final and you've people worried about transfers. Park that shot and focus.

    Up the reds.

Twas the night before a european semi final,
    when all through the thread.
    No team talk was stirring,
    except for Amad

Amad and DeLigt kept up to fitness for the game on the weekend for starts come second leg.

    The defence scares me.

Need to shut off the Williams brothers.

Maz RWB, with Yoro RCB, Shaw LCB, Maguire in the middle CB.

Massive game tonight. Just need to make sure we are still in the tie come full time.

Bilbao very solid at the back this season and have some serious pace out wide. Do think we can trouble them in areas though and I hope we play physical.

Need to take the 1 or 2 chances that will come our way.

Onana will cost Utd this Europa League in some shape or form.

As he did with Champions league last year.

I assume we will effectively be playing for it - aiming for 0-0 with the hope we can nick a goal?

    Onana

    Shaw
    Maguire
    Yoro

    Dorgu
    Casemiro
    Ugarte
    Mazraoui

    Bruno
    Garnacho
    Hojlund

If Shaw cannot start (decent chance he can't) then I guess lindelof is put in for him, but beyond that I can't see him doing anything different.

You could argue for Amass LWB with Dorgu RWB, Mazraoui in the back 3, Mainoo in for someone (Case?) but I can't see those things happening.

If Shaw isn’t playing then we have to start MDL. This game is too important to have Lindelof on the pitch from the start. I’d also start Amad being honest. We have 5 games left this season after tonight and his presence at RWB could help nullify their attack down the wings by pinning them back a bit more. Himself and Dorgu need to play higher up the pitch or we will just invite trouble on to us.

De Ligt has been back in training 4 days.

I'd be SHOCKED if him or Amad played today.

And if either were to get injure dcause you have pushed them that bit too soon, you then screw the second leg and potentially the final.

If it was a one off game like a FA Cup semi I could see the argument, but the goal for tonight will likely be to have us in a decent spot for next week - next week is where you go as strong as you possibly can and take the risk, imo, if needs be.

Amorim has already said they're not fit enough to start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,617 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

Bilbao have the best defence in La Liga this season. Vs, well, our attack. And the less said about our attacking threat probably the better.

Just Try and stay in the tie is probably the best we can hope for….. but I think we're in for a very difficult night.

Electric atmosphere at San Mames too. There will be no hiding place out there

Nah, the San memes was only built in 2013 so it's a soulless corporate bowl.

New stadiums can only be soulless.

Would be very happy with a draw or a narrow loss tonight. I think Athletic will have too much though. I also do not trust us to take our chances and not make individual mistakes.

Hopefully Casemiro still has some of that European Cup pedigree in the tank.

What a huge set of matches ahead of us, if we can get away with a draw tonight I will be over the moon because I think we can beat them at OT because Bilbao dont play that well away from home

    .....…….........…Onana

    ......Lindelof Maguire Yoro

    Mazraoui Ugarte Cas Dorgu

    ................Bruno Mainoo

    ....................Hojlund

Can't see Shaw starting. Bournemouth was his first start in over 12 months and can't see him starting two games in one week. Could see him start Mainoo ahead of Garnacho. Just to have someone come on in the second half that can stretch defensives with us not having anyone else that can really come on and do a job in attack.

Would really prefer to see Maz playing RCB but would he start Amass in a game like this and move Dorgu RWB. Not so sure and neither MDL or Amad are fit to start. With Heaven suffering a set back and both Lindelof and Evans leaving it's another position we'll have to sign depth for.

If Lindelof starts this match then we are fcuked !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,149 ✭✭✭✭JRant

Considering the alternatives it's a risk I'd take. The return leg is in 1 week so it's not like they'll have a massive amount of times between games Both players seem like they are naturally very fit and I wouldn't be surprised if they could play.

Would you bet on them winning?

    Well not the full house.
