    Intresting move

In Whelans last year a few were a bit parched

Fair shout. A recent gig I was at, and the crowd there were up and down to the bar like yo-yos.

Honestly, I'm all for it where it's likely to be a bit of a mess.

If people can't be reasonable, and let's be honest they weren't at the last David Gray gig from what I read and heard, close the bars.

If you want a night out on the piss, go to a bar.

Ya exactly, definitely making the trip up to see them as I can't see them travelling west anytime soon.

Some great tunes love future me hates me and the new single is very strong

Yeah I'm not against it but think it's a pity cos of minority it has to happen. Interesting that the venue was willing to take the hit on drink sales during his set. Guess after the review of his last gig maybe they were worried it would affect future ticket sales so worth it in long term

Advocating for the closure of bars during a gig, especially at a venue as big as the 3 Arena, is reaching the levels of hysteria of those who complain about people going to the bar at the Aviva during a match.

Zero "hysteria" and what a lazy excuse for an argument that word has become.

I can't imagine this decision was taken lightly. It was ridiculous levels of disruption at the last gig. If you want to drink like that, just go to a pub.

They spend the first half of the show going back and forth to the bar and the second half going back and forth for a piss!

Not to mention the 'where's my seat' seanagians

    Hysteria my arse.

Nobody cares if gig-goers go for a drink, use the loo or whatever. But it is a problem when people are going to get shïtfaced and listen to the two songs they know, are up and down like yo-yos, excessively disrupting others and generally acting like they're in their own living room.

You could very easily say that if you can't attend a gig without needing a drink, you have a problem.

Which is why comedy gigs are abysmal there.

At Chris Rock the bloke beside me had 4 pints in a tray for himself. Which meant anyone else coming into/leaving the row had to wait for him to reach down and awkwardly lift his booze tray up and spill some on himself. Which happened maybe 50 times in the 80 minutes Chris Rock was on stage.

If Im paying 120-150 euro for a ticket to a Rugby game I expect to watch the match.

I don't want to watch pissheads traipsing up and down to the bar every ten minutes.

The bar should be closed whilst a game is on.

You can drink before the game, at half time and after the match.

I've been to hundreds of comedy gigs over the last few years in venues of all sizes in Ireland and the UK and the 3Arena is the worst for comedy. Not only that, it's the only comedy venue I've been to multiple times where fights have broken out because people were so drunk. I can think of it happening at least five times when I was there (once at Bill Burr, Chris Rock and someone else, twice at Kevin Bridges).

For what it's worth - I've become more vocal about this sort of behaviour at gigs.. maybe I'm getting old and cranky and I've almost been lamped more times than I care to mention when I (politely) tell people to quiet down.. it bothers me more when they're front and center at a gig as it's disrespectful if nothing else.

Think its a pity its come to this but at least venue is being proactive about it and might send a message. If they could target people chatting through sets next it would be great. Unfortunately a lot of obnoxious behaviour has crept in, blame people lacking manners and common sense with covid or whatever but if you're impacting someone else's enjoyment of a gig they've paid good money to be at then think there has to be some consequences rightly or wrongly. Artists and audience won't miss people who treat gigs as background music to their conversations

When I'm supreme dictator, c*nts that go to concerts to shout over the music will be dragged outside the venue and beaten with sticks.

The ones who spend the evening chatting really piss me off! There was a guy at the front of the stage one night who turned to a randomer beside him and started chatting through one of the songs. Song ended, he shut up, applauded the song and then back to the conversation when the band started into the next song. Considering the price of tickets now why can't they just go to the pub or sit with a few beers in the house and play something on Spotify?

At 3 Arena last Sunday night and this was announced about bars closing for the show . The rush to the bar was noticeable . Even with an intermission of 20 mins where the bar would be open .

Anyhow we were heading to the seats and there was bit of a squish at the door . This large guy heading towards me with a tray full of drink in one hand and phone in the other , not looking where he was going . I moved a bit to the side to let him through but he didn't budge an inch . Walked right through me as if I wasn't there with the phone hand , lucky for him . He didn't spill his drink .

Me... I nearly had one boob forcibly removed ( sorry for graphic description ) it was painful!

Did he blink or look around ? No . But I digress ..

Anyway thought afterwards about David Gray and how it would be good if they closed the bars for the show .

People still need to go for a pee though .

While they've a small enough tour of US in place Rilo Kiley now doing a bit of press about being happy to be back together, greatest hits album on the way etc. Feeling optimistic that they might tour here next year 🤞

Haim have new album out - hopefully tour here later in the year or next year. Wonder what level they're at now, 1 night in 3Arena?

well at a standing gig, if people are going to rush to the bar just before an act comes on, don’t expect your spot to still be there when you get back

Haim announced a US and UK tour the other day, seemed mad not to include EU dates as well. Would imagine 3 arena for them

Which is why hipflasks are the way forward. No trips to the bar needed and less pissing.

Always amazed that people will miss 30 minutes of a gig to queue for a pint of Rockshore.

    Garden variety Paddy behaviour.

Anyone else heading to Kilkenny for the Roots festival this weekend? Sun will still be shining hopefully, always a big bonus. I'm only down the Sunday but really looking forward to it. Delines at 3, then a few free pub gigs. Anyone down on the Saturday and looking for something to do on the Saturday night, I think there are still some tickets available for the Courettes. Great craic, I highly recommend.

Hardly a major surprise, if a English band was due to play in Dublin, and had publicly stated that the only good Irish politician was a dead one, we would all be in uproar. We are all aware that Kneecap like to present themselves as dissident underdogs, giving a voice to the oppressed, but whether you like them or loathe them, they have gone too far this time, and need to remember that they are supposedly musicians and not a political party.
