[Resolved] The Ryan Tubridy Show Thread in Radio Forum

Yesterday, I wrote a critical response to an Article and a podcast featuring Ryan Tubridy. The reply is sarcastic in tone and critical of the podcast, both the interview and Tubs himself. I feel that it was in no way a personal attack on Tubs but rather a criticism of him and the podcast in question. The mod disagrees feeling that it was a personal attack rather than clear criticism of Tubs, and fails to address the article (and podcast) it was in response to.

This is of course a wider issue involving the renaming of the thread by the Mods in the Radio forum.

The post reads like so : -

Ryan knew the time for him was up on TLLS, he'd always said it was only a 10 year gig. And it pre-dates any of the news from RTÉ, some people might think that a former TLLS producers might have tipped him off, but I can't imagine that being true. He kept his leaving quite to friends and family because he knew they'd be upset and fair dues to him for thinking of them, after all as he points out he has a massive ego, and anyone with a massive ego knows that he can only contain himself so much before getting teary eyed. Look at him now, driving around London on a moped (given to him by U2 no less) forgetting about that time he was "mugged by god in a hoody" (Something the great Sinead O'Connor said to him in private, and which he retold just after her death). No fair dues to Tubs for coming back to say sorry and being able to move on, I can only image what it takes for an old fogey to move to London like he's a young fogey, takes guts, takes guts.

There is a podcast forum. To avoid picking up warnings in the radio forum perhaps you could post there rather than dragging the radio show thread off topic.

Or the thread should not have been renamed so that the mods could suggest some how I am changing the thread topic.

The podcast was talking about RT and his show in any case, and his work as a Radio Host.

On top of this the warning was not give about the thread being moved off topic.

Also are you Adjudicating this as a Mod?

I had replied before noticing this was a DRP. I will leave it to the C-Mods to look at.

Hi just to get an update on this, its been too long really. TBQH the discusion end of boards is ending due to over moderation. Change of thread titles to suit moderators.

I would also like to add this to the complaint.

shh not here, careful now, but you can talk about it on other thread like

But just don't tell anyone there are other thread for this type of talk including the mega mega thread

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058395803/the-rte-megathread

If mods can't take a bit of joking they need to start knowing when to be serious and not. This is the complete end of boards TBH.

Meanwhile the Mod gleefully telling me that I mod-ed when I shouldn't have, no idea of sarcasm, in the above post.

Shh might have been the guess

Hello. In relation to the post you quoted in the OP, and given the letter and spirit of the Radio forum charter, it seems you veered into commenting Tubridy's character and some of his lifestyle trappings. Therefore, I'm wondering what wiggle room you expect me to have in an oversight capacity? If I were to see criticism of a professional broadcaster I'd expect it to be related to the function of their job, such as whether they interrupt too much and so forth.

I was commenting on what he said in an interview on another radio station (Later to be a podcast) about his time in London and his career after RTÉ. It is clear made in a tongue in cheek manner.

I see the sarcasm. There's a bit of cheapness in the post too, is there not? Mods have to consider what's in the best interest of the health of the forum, and that criticisms of an individual remain within the confines of the charter.

In relation to post #6 above, that's a zero point warning, which can't be appealed.

I didn't realize I was being cheap, you will have to explain, the mods allowed the thread go on for more than a year before making any decisions on it, then they changed the title of the thread, I have never seen this happen before on boards, its whole out of character. It'd have been easier to close the thread.

As I say I was responding legitimately to what was said on the podcast the character of the individual was not in question.

Would I have been better to say

I see Ryan did an interview with newstalk, he talked about his new show on virgin and moving on. He didn't seem to talk much about his conversation with Sinead O'Connor. He laugh about RTÉ's leadership team, he seems to think they lack leadership. He mentioned getting TLLS and how he'd being doing on 2FM, though no mention as host of the mid-morning slot on 2FM. Overall he seems to be doing well.

The historic problems with the Radio forum are well-known, hence the updated charter. I'm not seeing that the mod has overstepped here. Let me know if you'd like an admin to review.

Sorry when was the charter updated? what historic problems?

Can I just mention that @Big Bag of Chips should rule themselves out due to their last post on this thread. Thank you.

The forum was previously quite toxic to read, misogyny and derogatory comments about presenters and so on.

The new charter was added/implemented on February 5th.

Which thread was misogynistic, just out of interest, I didn't see that one.

    Sorry for the delay.

It looks to me that your post crosses this line in the charter:

"A presenter's show and performance can be critiqued, but personal abuse will not be tolerated (appearance, accent, personal life, their family etc)"

Outside of the radio forum your post would probably have been grand but the moderation there is very strict due to the way posters tend to carry on within that forum, similar to the soccer forum in that what seems pretty mild to most people can be inflammatory to those invested in the topic.

    Marking this as resolved.
