I was in Baldonnell on Friday and there's a good few white M3's awaiting collection, if that's what you're waiting on.

If you were to order a MY Juniper today any idea when you could expect to get it?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,844 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Good chance of June delivery, or at least in the first batch of deliveries. I cant imagine they are all sold.

Order holders on FB have been given delivery windows and Vin numbers for the first batch which was originally due in June. Some saying May now.

Haven’t posted here since shortly after taking delivery of my model 3 in February but some feedback…

    1. I love this car so much, it’s just so good and so much fun - I’m happy every time I get it! Zero regrets, so so glad I bought it.

    2. Next car will be M3 Performance. (In ultra red 😍)

    3. I got a ceramic coating put on about a month later (before first wash and any water swirls or scratches) and it’s fab. Hydrophobic and made my own first home wash a breeze. All glossy and extra shiny in the sun. Half thinking of investing in a car-dryer now.

Large CarPro Drying towel or similar is good too.

Are you topping up the coating in any way?

Quick Detailer or similar after washing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 Charlamagne tha God

Large drying towel ordered and en route already!

Um no to the rest - Model 3 resides in a 3-walled garage and not been down the country since the ceramic coat/wash so I’ve literally just spray washed, teeny bit of neutral car shampoo, and done! Guess I’ve to google some more. Recs welcome, you’ve not done me wrong here yet!

My previous 6 cars were a motley crew of BMWs, Alfas and Mercs, loved them all too for various reasons (more or less given some of the heartbreak) I used to drive them filthy, but no more 😃

I suppose first check what coating you have, then ask the installer is there a QD that works well with that, say CarPro with CarPro etc

Im using a Graphene QD after every wash currently and it just retains the slickness really well. after long drives, bugs just fall off etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,514 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

a few down the country bugs sleeping a little easier tonight…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 Charlamagne tha God

Dying here, 😂 I mean you know what I mean. Years back I did a Dublin - Tipp country commute a few times a week… now that car got muddied up, no ceramic or Graphene QD was ever fixing that mess…

There’s a Tesla cargo ship en route to Southampton with an estimated arrival date of 6th June, so anyone with upcoming delivery dates is probably looking at the following week for deliveries here, at best.

Don’t think they go to Southampton for the Irish market think it’s via Zeebrugge.

Hey guys, I'm pretty much all set to order a new Model Y. But what do people do about trade in? The trade in price I was offered is a no deal for me. I see some people saying sell privately. What did you guys do? I'm guessing I'd need an extra loan and temporarily have two cars until the old one sells. But then what about insurance? I'm not a big fan of donedeal and dealing with tyre kickers to be honest. This is a big turn off. It's a pretty important park of the purchase and leaving you to deal with your old car privately is a big turn off in what is otherwise a seamless, hassle free experience. I'd love to hear how others are doing this.

Graham Walker and Richie in Vector will give you a better price for your car than Tesla.

Albeit not as good as selling private, but they're taking away the hassle and pain for you so that's worth a lot.

I’m in a similar position. If you make an order and you’re not happy with the final trade in price, can the €250 order fee be refunded easily? Says non-refundable on the website…

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,501 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

as long as you do not do a test drive it's easy to get the €250 back

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

As per Josip comments that’s the best route if you don’t want the hassle. I’ll be going down the private route.

I think you have worked it out for yourself. If you want the convenience of holding onto your own car until delivery of new, avoid hassle of selling privately with "tyre kickers" that option is there from Tesla but comes at a price ( a deal breaker for you) . Selling your car privately will likely yield a better price but has the downside of perhaps not being able to get timing right . It appears as though you like the "set menu price" of new car from Tesla but want to dine "a la carte". It really comes down to personal choice and everything has a price.

In terms of trade in values from Tesla these are always "low ball" because of their business model. Essentially they pass your details to the trade and solicit offers (buyer has to make a cut, offer warranty, Tesla have a cut and it is an offer sight unseen…helps understand why it is considered low). So its best to accept that in terms of managing expectations, wishing it was different unfortunately wont change things.

    Decisions…..

Thanks guys. Yes selling to an alternative dealer is what I had in mind. But I'm more likely to go with another brand that offers a decent price to be honest.

I was just wondering what others are doing. Thanks for the GW and Vector tip, I'll get quotes from them.

It's a terrible blot on their sales process. It's really putting me off.

Are there any tricks around timing? I presume the external dealers will honour the quote if it's close to your delivery date? How are people managing this approach? I'm just curious is there some trick or tips I'm not aware of with regards to insurance transfer, timing etc.

At the moment, all I can think of is sell the car first and hope that the delivery date is accurate and doesn't change. Thst way I'd only be without a car over night.

This is a really, really badly managed process from Tesla and so off putting. Just give a decent trade in price. I'm buying a 50k car ffs.

The other brands use tradebid too. The same site as Tesla. So you’ll be in the same position unfortunately.

You're looking for the legacy dealership trade-in model with a very non legacy approach manufacturer in Tesla.

Sell privately if you want to squeeze most out of it. I'm in process of wading through the nonsense DoneDeal messages too on my Model 3. It gets easier and the genuine buyers do surface. Best buyer for me is the one who already owns a Tesla and is looking for a second!

Sell to GW or Vector if you fit their needs for less hassle.

Not necessarily. It depends if they have a forecourt. Going for the same brand as my current car is an option. They'd sell it on the forecourt for sure because it's a high spec model. Therein lies my problem really. I need a person to look at it and see that it's not a bog standard paddy spec and deserves more than a bog standard trade in. I'm not looking for private sale equivalent, I know you get less for a trade in. But Tesla are taking he Absolute piss. 10k of piss.

If trading in the same brand, VW to VW, absolutely.
Also remember that some of them won’t retail cars older than a certain year or mileage, BMW have a 3 year rule generally speaking too.

But I thought you were talking about trading in a Tesla to another branded garage, in which case they will just farm it out to the trade. So no difference.

Or are you talking about trading in your next car in a few years back to that same brand 🤷‍♂️

What are you looking to trade in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭reaction238

I'm looking to trade in a diesel skoda for a Tesla. The other option is to get an Enyaq or ID4. I'm fairly certain an old fashioned approach of a car expert taking a look at the car and taking it for a quick spin would increase the value over some comparison Web site that assumes its a base paddy spec that's in rag order.

    I'm really talking myself out of a Tesla aren't I?! 😆

I Guess I've answered my question. I'll look elsewhere for my new car.

Thank you all for your feedback and advice.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,844 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

No, you’re not really taking yourself out of a Tesla, with the trade In Experience you want, you really only have the option to go back to Skoda.

You’ll be sent to the trade with any other non Skoda branded garage.

What’s the details of the Skoda? Are you really sure you’ll get €10k more elsewhere

    Tesla probably isn't for you @reaction238 👍️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 977 ✭✭✭JOL1

i agree. Tesla is probably the car they want, the most competitive in term of pricing but difficulties with amount offered by Tesla for trade In and desire to coordinate sale with taking ownership is a stretch. Little point in complaining about Tesla business model, that is why they can offer attractive pricing, clearly it is not for everyone. It is clear how they operate so for some it is a great deal and for others it is not.

The car is for me, but I'm finding it difficult to see past this problem. I thought I was missing a trick, hence coming to forums to find out.

I think it's probably a generational thing. There's a generation now thst don't realise there's another way of doing things that is fairer, especially if you have well cared for car or well spec'ed car.

I've also just discovered another stumbling block. I would add the advanced autopilot add-on. I've found out this is tied to the car and is not transferable. OK, I can live with that. But it gets worse, they disable the add-on on their trade ins. So when it comes to upgrading the car and doing a trade.in, it adds nothing to the trade in value AND you have to purchase the add-on again on your new car.

In other words it's a 3,800 recurring fee that cannot be recoup on a trade in. If you.trade in every 3 or 4 years, that's roughly a €1,000 annual subscription fee in disguise.

The moral of the story is the best way to buy a brand new car is to go for the base paddy spec and don't bother putting any effort into caring for your car because it's.poinless in the end. It's quite sad really, for someone who loves cars and loves caring for his car.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,844 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

All Tesla CPO cars have Enhanced Auto Pilot and most of these are trade ins. Never add EAP when buying a new car as the cost gets added on and you end up paying VRT etc, just like any option from any other brand.

Instead, wait until you get the car and buy it afterwards. It won’t cost you any extra then.

I agree about the generational thing, many older generation folk want the traditional garage, glass box, fancy coffee machine and today’s newspaper to make them feel special when handing over their money. It’s a human behavioural thing.

Tesla is like buying an iPhone. Most know what they are getting. Order online and collect with no fuss.

You still have t posted any details on your Skoda. What’s the private sale price on it?

It's actually fairer having the Tesla option. No more having a sales person blow smoke up your arse about how good a 'deal' you're getting on the trade in. If you want to get the best deal, you put in the leg work and sell the car privately. If want convenience let dealer do the leg work and trade in. I've done both. I've sold a VW brand car privately when trading in against a newer model in the same garage because it was financially a better option for me. Tesla choose to give buyers great value on new cars. They choose not to get involved in the 2nd hand market and focus on running a lean, efficient operation. That is their prerogative and there is nothing unfair about it. But I agree, it's not for everyone.
