I think from a gameplay perspective, TLOU2 is too long. Storywise, I think it'll suit the show.

Curse of modern gaming unfortunately. I found even the first game long but second game must be much longer if the plot can last two seasons of tv

TWD had good source material too but changed a lot of outcomes for certain characters which harmed it a lot as it meant they strayed miles off the path. Dale and Andrea got killed off earlier for example, and Judith lived waaaaay longer than the comics intended.

Thankfully HBO know what they're doing much more than AMC and aren't changing the major beats in the story.

What is it with zombie survival shows and settlements? They always have ridiculous interpersonal drama and slow stories. I’m getting flashbacks to TWD and the farm season.

I thought Elle had gotten super powers when she asked the guy four times her size to punch her in the face full force. If you want a small girl to be a bad ass then look at Hanna, use speed and training. Make it somewhat believable and explain it.

Joels being gone and pretty much verbally attacked by everyone this season was also not a great send off either. I’m getting the whiff of bad writing creeping in.

I suppose they had to use what they could get and would be effective I suppose, the barrels on the ramps were pretty effective in fairness.

Plus I suppose the place is damp and wet.

I am guessing they could have gone back and put them in that little garage/stable, a bit of time could have elapsed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,344 ✭✭✭trashcan

Yeah, thinking about it that makes sense. Joel doesn’t know how much they know about Ellie, or why he did what he did, so he doesn’t want to make Ellie target for Abbey.

Episode 3 was a change in pace.

All kind of predictable plot wise, they don't get the votes so Ellie and her side kick go rogue for revenge.

That new group with the scars is interesting, the only thing I would say...new odd cult like groups kind of echoes for me the weird groups from the walking dead like the whisperers, but let's see how well it is done here.

The WLFs clearly a pretty powerful group yikes.

Yes it was certainly slower. Next weeks episode should be a bit better. Ellie and Dina got there work cut out by the looks of it.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Interesting episode. It is a bit like the Walking Dead with local factions and cults. It has a YA novel feel to it though now unfortunately with the main characters. Cant believe nearly half way through the season already.

Another strong episode. It’s been a cracking start to Season 2 in fairness.

I know the shots of Seattle in the distance were CGI but it looked amazing.

Small nitpicks but why put your graveyard 10 miles outside of town? Also if Ellie and Dina left town at 3am how come the sun was well up by the time they got to the graveyard?

Earliest sunrise in Wyoming is 5.30am and the sun had to have been up an hour or more at the graveyard so we’re talking 3.5 hours to go 10 miles.

Now Seattle is over 1,000 miles from Wyoming so at that rate you’re talking a couple of months to make the trip.

I did like the magic hour sunshine during that sequence though.

I’m not good on American Geography, but my expectation was that it would take them a few episodes to reach Seattle, with maybe some perils along the way. Certainly looks like Ellie and Dina are going to be up against it. Not sure what was going on with the new group that looked like they were about to be introduced into the story, and suddenly they are wiped out. I don’t think it was Abbey and co who were responsible though. The scene with Ellie breaking down when going through Joel’s things was heartbreaking. I’ve said it before, but how anyone finds fault with Bella Ramsey’s acting is beyond me.

You really have to ignore the geography. The story is long enough without having to spend multiple episodes crossing the country where what happens (in the game) is filler in the grander scheme of the narrative.

The actress who plays Dina is beautiful.

I'm assuming that Ellie and Dina will bump into survivors of that new group and they'll join forces? Can't understand the reasoning behind introducing them otherwise.

I think the complaints about Bella Ramsey generally come down to two main points; a) she doesn't look like the game version of Ellie (which is a stupid complaint imo), and b) Ellie isn't always that likeable of a character. She's brash, arrogant, sarcastic/bratty, always wants things her own way, and is prone to making stupid decisions that endangers herself or others. Certainly some of that in Season 1 you could put down to childhood/teen-angst and obviously the effect of everything she was going through (trauma, survivors guilt, abandonment issues), but it's a very fine line to walk and the character of Ellie often falls on the wrong side of it and becomes unlikeable.

Which means there's nothing really wrong with Bella Ramsey's performance of that, because irrespective of being the protagonist, Ellie isn't supposed to be a model of perfection and a wise-cracking, sensible, skilled hero. I think Bella does a great job of both portraying that side of Ellie, but also her vulnerabilities and fears.

There was very little travel to Seattle in the game after they decided to go. It was a few minutes horse riding through a small forest area.

Once again some good changes in this episode trying to keep the series a bit more mysterious.

Bella Ramsey is talented. I think people need to get over the fact she doesnt look like Ellie from the game.

The graveyard TEN MILES from town annoyed me to. So much that I had to google it. Walking pace for a horse is 4 miles per hour. That's a 5 hour round trip! Are they worried about the dead rising? Which I suppose could be a cause for concern.

Why was Ellie in hospital for three months? Didn't she get a boot in the chest or something? Could have been a psych hold after her scream when she woke up!

Speaking of psych, that therapist really does seem to have some issues with Ellie. Calling her a liar pretty vehemently. I wonder did Ellie also have something to do with Eugene's death?

Seth is no now longer just the maker of bigot sandwiches. Friendly fire comeback was funny. She's not one to hold grudges, is she?

The 8 3 council vote, I'm going to guess that someone like Jesse will have voted no. Inconsequential really, but the fact they didn't show who voted what made me wonder.

The cultists are being introduced in a lot more measured manner in the show. Similar to Abby I suppose. Hard to believe nearly halfway through the season already, it is 7 in the run, isn't it?

Oh, how the hell do you sleep in a tent in a zombie apocalypse. I had third party anxiety!

I think when we see Ellie in the hospital, she has a tube in her chest? Wouldn't that suggest a collapsed lung?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,622 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah between that and the breath-test thing she has to do before being released, I assumed the same; a collapsed or punctured lung after being kicked in the ribs or something.

Another great episode. They told a whole lot of story there to show the morning, motivation of where the story is going, new factions and new location. Going by the teaser, it looks like it will have a bite of action/tense scenes, really looking forward to it!

My take on the graveyard 10 miles away is to keep the town hidden - it could have done with a bit of explaining though.

Jackson Hole to Seattle is over 800 miles,

Overall I enjoyed the episode, episode 4 looks strong.

I'm enjoying this show, I'm not a gamer so tbh I'd never heard of it at all until the show itself first appeared, and maybe things are more obvious to those who are familiar with the game.

Aside from all the other plot "holes" or script conveniences already discussed above, one thing I've wondered about is where they hell they get all their new supplies from? Ellie and all the Jackson residents seem to have an endless supply of guns, ammunition, etc? And then at the end of the latest episode we get a glimpse of the size/firepower of the "WLF". Several what look like very new and shiny armoured tanks and plenty more besides. How is any of that possible, 25 years on from the end of civilisation? Seattle itself was a crumbling mess!

Yeah, one of Abbeys crew kicked her while she was on the ground, after Abbey had killed Joel and she was threatening to kill them all.

Can someone refresh my memory on who the Therapists husband was ? When she was saying in episode one to Joel that she couldn’t really forgive him for killing her husband, I couldn’t remember who he was. Was he bitten or something, and Joel finished him off ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,393 ✭✭✭jj880

Eugene was a war veteran, then firefly, then patrolman in Jackson and talented weed grower. Its a mystery exactly how Joel killed him although sounds like he got infected since Joel had to "put him down" according to Jesse. Looks to be set up for a flashback in coming episodes. Putting my conspiracy theory hat on I think there's possibly more to it since he was a firefly. Maybe he found out Ellie's secret and Joel made it look like he got infected...

such a woke tv show. In the game tommys wife is white and on the show she’s black, don’t get me started on Joel’s daughter. She’s long dead. They were obviously going for the biggest minger actress going. How can you sit down for an hour looking at that. After Joel dies so does the story basically.sequel game was a waste of time and ruined the first one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,344 ✭✭✭trashcan

Ok. so I did a quick Google search on the character, and am I right in saying he wasn’t in the first Season then ? It seems like he will be introduced in Flashbacks this season ? I thought I had just forgotten someone from Season 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,393 ✭✭✭jj880

I don't remember him being mentioned in Season 1.

The town is lit up like a Christmas tree at night. We saw how visible it was at the end of episode 1.

I don't think locating the graveyard 10 miles away is making any difference to keeping it hidden.
