The Ukraine European counter is the second image in the tweet

I'm aware of that. I'm pretty sure Trump and Putin put together their joint proposal so anything Ukraine or Europe come up with will be seen as standing on the way it peace etc...

Asking the US to get involved in guaranteeing the peace and holding Russia's feet to the fire after is not going to happen, that is clear.

Under Trump I am unfortunately coming to think the US would kind of prefer Russia actually wins and takes Ukraine entire + they deal with their equals and friends good old "Vladimir", and perhaps Chairman Xi for some juicy slices carved off the dead carcass.

The Trump admin. can't switch to a completely pro Russia foreign policy immediately, just as they cannot turn the US into a full autocracy at the drop of a hat, so it is being done in dribs and drabs (but still very fast).

I fear next step will be ending final drops of aid to Ukraine and lifting of US sanctions on Russia.

I thought a Trump admin. would be bad but just how awful is a surprise, and how much of a turncoat and backstabber America has become over space of a few short months is very hard to get ones' head around (for me personally anyway)

Ukrainians killing off the americans with CIA links fighting for Russia.

If Trump had a golden shower with a roomful of Russians. Then what did operatives working for the CIA do with Russian "workers". Putin's fascist american alliance operatives say hello to ukrainian drones.

LOL ,when Russia are allowed back on the markets in probably a couple of weeks Russian oil ,minerals markets will be a great investment as they will sell cheap to restart the Russian economy, I'd say many of Trumps mates are chomping at the bit .

Awful deal, and looks like it was written by a ten year old.

Fight on, Europe needs to step up, force Russia out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Marty Bird

I think that deal represents the best outcome to stop the fighting. The Hawks in Washington won’t be happy with the US proposals.

This strategy that keep sending arms to Ukraine will some how force Russia out is crazy, they don’t have the man power to use them with the losses. I think the US and EU know this.

As for the US can’t be trusted when have they ever been trusted when it comes to foreign policy and geo politics?

Rewarding the annexation of 20% of a neighbouring country would only be viewed as the best outcome by true putin fan boys like Trump. Getting them to stop the attacks on Ukraine is not a concession like Trump claims it is and a good deal would see compromise when what the USA has suggested is just telling Ukraine to surrender and hope putin does not attack again once he has built up his military again. The USA can't decide on its own for sanctions on putin to be lifted and it makes no sense for Europe to offer anything to encourage a dictator determined to go down in history as an empire builder for moskow. European countries have already started to spend billions more on dealing with aggression from putin and it would give them much better return on investment simply to pour the majority of this into building up Ukraine's military capabilities where the skills on stopping putin's terrorists are already highly developed.

Trumps mates are in the oil industry who will suffer and are already suffering from cheap oil and gas, more oil and gas would bankrupt them

Like I said earlier one would have to have very short memories to have forgotten what happened to investments in Russia, they went poof or got stolen

There is no money to be made if all the money is stolen by the criminals running the mafia state

That a new account is pushing such a bizzare theory is interesting

I’m far from a fanboy. What I am is a realist this war needs to end, is what’s been proposed reasonably? Absolutely not, but thinking Russia will just give up and leave is fantasy land.

The NATO membership is just a carrot the rest dangle in front of Ukraine and they really are a pawn in the US anti Russia agenda.

What US anti Russia agenda? Trump is in bed with Putin these days.

If thinking Russia will give up and leave is just fantasy land, what makes you think they'll stop to honour any peace deal? They couldn't even honour their own Easter ceasefire proposal.

Will only stand a chance if there is a robust security guarantee and we have yet to see the colour of the deal's money in this regard (although thedre are some promising signs in thus regard)

If there isn't such a guarantee the deal is effectively worthless to Zelensky, given Putin's total untrustworthiness, and Ukraine may as well fight on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Marty Bird

When you read the RAND corp paper “Extending Russia “ from 2019 who are a tink-rank for the Pentagon tells you all you need know about the US anti-Russia agenda. Ukraine is and always has been a pawn for the Hawks.

Will Russian honour it ? Honestly I don’t know if it was agreed will the West honour it?

Like Ukraine wouldn’t honour the Christmas ceasefire a few years back ?

The first casualty of war is always the truth.

If there's Hawks in the US opposed to putin and his raping, child stealing, executions in the street, murdering of political opponents, imprisonment of protestors, poisoning of those at will.

Then what are those who approve of this and see him as their role model called? Patriotic eagles?

Hmm… interesting how your link never mentioned Ukraine, just sanctions and economic influence. But, also interesting is how it now says it was 'mischaracterized by Russian propagandists.' So, where did you learn about the report? Because you might be better served to read the accompanying note about the 'firehose of falsehoods.'

I still wouldn't trust a security guarantee given by Trump.

I can see in the future, some attack on a peace keeping/peace enforcement force by the Russians and Russia will claim they attacked themselves and Trump will agree etc...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Marty Bird

I never linked it. And I read it back in 2021 I think. have you read it ?

The only way this war ends is with the decapitation of the "Make Ukraine Russian" cult, which means delete Putin.

    Everything else is mere commentary.

At some point Zelensky is going to have to take a leap of faith here if he isn't to fight on to what could be a very bitter end…

I think his judgement call will be more about Putin's intentions than Trump's good faith. If Putin is willing to sign up to what looks like a fairly solid America-backed security guarantee the verdict may be he is reasonably satisfied with what he has taken to date and believes he could only make further gains at a masive cost in blood & treasure…

I don't think it's a big an issue as you make out. North Korean soldiers are fighting Ukranians in Kursk. The day the north Koreans cross into Ukraine is a completely different situation.

What's Europe to do? Attack North Korea? Sanction North Korea even more (if that's even possible?) attack North Korean troops on sovereign Russian soil?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,413 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

    Kursk still holding on

To answer your questions, there has to be a way to make life way more uncomfortable for Kimmy and his comrades. That's it's not worth their while to send troops.

Im now confused. This is what trump & rubio were pretty much demanding of Ukraine .. ????? This is a complete 360?

The United States rejected Russia’s demand for the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions — The New York Times American negotiators called the demand “unreasonable and unfeasible” and assured Kyiv that they would not support it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 492 ✭✭phester28

I think Russia want Ukraine to surrender the rest of Kherson etc, From what ive read USA want the lines to stay the way there are now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭macraignil

What are you confused about? When did Trump say that Ukraine would have to retreat further and give up more of its internationally recognised territory than has been already illegally annexed by putin?

If Trump gets this long war to end and saves hundreds of thousands more deaths, it will be a heroic achievement and he would be deserving of the noble piece prize. What did Obama ever do to get that award? Under Biden, the war would be fought until the every last fighting Ukrainian was dead and the threat of wwiii was close to unavoidable
