Disturbing is actually an understatement. It’s terrifying. Those people like Piers Morgan, who took umbrage when they thought people were comparing Trump to Hitler, are starting to look very silly indeed.

It's definitely dark and disturbing, but it's not surprising.

In fact, given that Trump is a man who incited a mob to storm the US Capitol in order to prevent the peaceful transfer of power, I would say that his drive to fully consolidate power in his second term was the only thing any reasonable person could expect to happen. Of course he would hire people like Bondi who would fully aid and abet him in this aim. Did ANYONE really think he'd make the 'mistake' of hiring reasonable, conscionable people again? No. These people would not only not be hired, but ones already in position would be targeted and purged. This is how the takeover works.

His being reelected, with a parliamentary majority of sycophants, that was the whole ball game. The only question left is how long the resulting process would take and the only real surprise has been how swiftly he and his backers have moved. We're only three months in, here.

His administration will start to arrest judges for carrying out their constitutional duties. There will be a short period of outrage and then, just like everything else, it'll just become another day in the USA.

The critical mass of public opposition that might push him out of office will not arrive because the American public are too divided, distracted and demoralised.

The end of US democracy is at hand.

Somebody like chief justice John Roberts seems to me like he'd be a serious man who had been appointed long before Trump came to power and wouldn't be given to ruling in Trump's favour out of a sense of political loyalty or kinship, or against him out of sense of oppositionality.

Doesn't mean Trump's goons wouldn't try to arrest him in the not-too-distant future, though.

Sense of shock tonight among members of my family who have dual citizenship. None would be Trump voters thankfully .

It is something that many here have been warning about for years but I think people who are living and working in the US are getting a tailored image through a different lens and while they recognized he was an idiot they none of them saw anything like this coming !

I'd say he's just turned SCOTUS against him. They'll know they're next on the chopping block so I'd expect them to push back in the next few weeks. They may be MAGA heads but they're not the stupid type. They'll have no intention of falling on their sword for Trump.

The whole idea of him going would be absurd except this is Trump. He's Presbyterian, hardly big Pope supporters. He's also heavily involved with evangelicals, again from protestant backgrounds, and no fans of the Pope either.

Surely, seen as he's the closest thing to Satan's representative on earth, that he spontaneously combusts at the ceremony.

The media over there needs to find its balls. When Trump utters a demonstrable lie like that, they need to call him out on it there and then. He needs to be shown up as the liar he is in real time, not in some follow up article.

His lies should be embarrassing for him and not a mechanism he's allowed to use to fool stupid people.
