I'm looking primarily at Cork because I have my friends here. Beyond that, I'm generally looking abroad, the likes of Greece or Portugal primarily, both of which are pretty big outsourcing spots. The reason behind that is the availability of relocation packages, which would make the move a bit easier.

I honestly don't think that there's a single urban area in Ireland where the rents are even remotely affordable.

Either way, just got a few pointers at Cork City Council to potentially help with my housing situation. Typing up an email now. I'm also moving ahead with the gold sale, my electricity bill came in and there's no way I can cover that just off of benefits…

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

I cam confirm Kildare isn't cheap, even if somewhere was available. Both sale prices and rents are off the charts, especiallyif you need to be near public transport.

Same here in Laois, it really has turned into a Commuter town . It's expanding and growing daily, which is good but prices rising accordingly.

I agree. I think if you're going to leave Cork, you're only hope is to go abroad. Rents are despicable everywhere in Ireland!

    Relocation expenses sound attractive.

Only problem is that the jobs available over there are with BPO outfits like Teleperformance, and are usually some form of call centre job. Would be ironic though, that's the very kind of job that got me to Ireland in the first place almost thirteen years ago…

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

If I found myself in that position these days I would absolutely apply to lidl or Aldi - not easy work but something to keep at

If there is anything we can do like referee and such we'll stand with you and give you a diamond reference

Checked Aldi this afternoon. Nice hourly wage but the amount of hours they offer in my local stores (24 per week) isn't enough to cover the rent. And I can't rely on "additional hours are often available" unfortunately.

Throwing out two Hail Marys though (the American Football kind, not the prayer), just typing up speculative applications to two companies I'm massively interested in. The worst they can say is no.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

@thomil, do you know if you could work the 24 hours over 3 days? You could get social welfare for the days you don't work and would likely qualify for rent supplement too.

My non existent sleeping schedule has kicked into overdrive . I got up around 8 pm so I’ll be here to the wee small hours .

Rent supplement has already been rejected, both in the initial application and on appeal. That's why I crashed so bad yesterday, and unfortunately, even a combination of Jobseeker's and part time work likely won't be enough to cover my costs.

For better or worse, I need a job that covers my full expenses and some solution that keeps a roof over my head until I get that job and start getting paid again.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Either way, back to Galaxy Zoo here. At least that way, I can say that I accomplished something today…

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

That's so unfair/strange that someone who is not presently working cannot get help with their rent! Did they give you any reason why not?

My MRI through up a couple of issues, so now off to a consultant soon hopefully, and hopefully I won't need surgery 🤞

It's been a long time since I worked in a supermarket but when I did there was always extra hours, same in all the retail places I've worked in. So I wouldn't be put off by the 24 hrs. Coming into summer they'll be looking for holiday cover, but do apply now before schools finish.

    Best of luck.

Up , no surprise since I didn’t get up until about 8pm , reading poems and stuff on my phone as I don’t have proper glasses for the myriad of books I have . Kinda watching the NFL draft and generally killing time . Such a life of ‘ luxury ‘ .

Nespresso time on my hotel balcony, working this afternoon and thought that I could swap to stay home, but don’t think that’s gonna happen due to staff shortage.

My day started yesterday when the OH got up to go traveling, she had 3 flights to get her into Sweden, so when I finally got a message that he had taken her uber from the airport and checked in, I was able to go to sleep. She has gone to a family wedding that I was supposed to attend, but no days off granted this month.

At least the deluge that we were promised hasn't hit yet. I hate getting saturated on the way into work, but I can deal with it on the way home, especially on a Friday.

    Yep, damp cold auld day.

And here we are, like oul lads, talking about the weather!😄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,582 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

I only mentioned the weather because I'm going off piste helicopter snowboarding in the Alps in the afternoon. That rain should be good snow up there.

Just need to close that 30 million deal before 11:30am and I'm done for the weekend.

Home office deskside, wishing it was 5pm. Meeting a few friends for dinner but I’d rather stay in!

Never knock an opportunity to have someone else AND wash up for you!

Deskside in the home office, marking a mountain of student assignments/projects and sneezing and coughing constantly - I have come down with a heavy cold. 🤧🤧

    At least it's Friday...

They did, rent in my place is supposedly to high. Never mind the fact that the rent I’m paying is significantly below average here in Cork, or the fact that the rent support/HAP limits have been too low to cover rent since all the way back in 2016, when I had my first run-in with social services here in Ireland. I pointed all of that out and produced nearly a kilogram of documentation to back up my arguments, but to no avail.

Hope the issues the MRI brought up are not too serious, Suvi. Keeping my fingers crossed that you get those sorted quickly.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Just back from the supermarket here to grab a few things. Prices really are beyond ridiculous at this point! 🤬

I used to be able to get an entire weekly shop done with just 20€ Can't even dream about doing that these days…

    …there's cameras everywhere…

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Watching the chase and the dark destroyer completely threw the final chase as he had already taken out the whole team so it was only 4 K in the pot .

The main problem I have with MRI’s is staying awake in them . I hope the It’s not too bad .
