    Look no further for evidence that Trump is either mad or playing games. He is trying to insist that the UK accept his 'free speech' agenda by repealing hate speech laws in order to achieve a trade agreement. The government of the UK and general public opinion is that they don't want hate speech to be made legal. They are quite happy with the level of free speech they have, including limitations on hate speech.

    Whatever about the rights and wrongs of hate speech - or 'free speech' as defined by the US, it beggars belief that the US 1. feels enabled to tell another sovereign country what laws they should have, 2. feels able to link this kind of demand to a trade agreement, and 3. are totally and completely unaware of the irony of their demand.

    There would appear to be a schism in Trump's cabinet with a person newly promoted to a senior position in the IRS suddenly being moved aside apparently on the request of Scott Bessent, the Treasury Sec. The person moved sideways seems to have been favoured for his short stay position by Elon Musk.

    Two former IRS investigators, who were whistle-blowers to congress about the side-lining of the investigation into the alleged Biden/Ukraine business deal affair, were given promotions by Bessent within the IRS around the 18th of last month. It might be that one of the newly promoted persons has since been given another position within the IRS by Bessent.

    So you want the DOJ to take action now but were quite happy to see no action taken against Trump. If she is found guilty she should be punished but her crimes seem like misdemeanors next to Trumps. Yet he's free as a bird.

    Too many things to keep track of. Getting rid of the park rangers and allow logging in national parks. It's like that Die Hard plot - "it's a firesale everything must go"

    I can understand the dismantling of internet regulations, but they are also dismantling cyber security too. I'll bite them hard unless that's the plan , to use an emergency to get even more temporary special powers.

    I know quite a few taxi drivers, every single one of them has dash cam (front and back) and a camera recording the passengers, this is for his safety as well as evidence against any false claims that may be made against him

    Any taxi driver who doesn't have a camera recording the internal space of his cab is asking for trouble.

    • Economist/YouGov: 42% approval and 52% disapproval (about 1,500 adults sampled, data released as of April 16).
    • CNBC: 44% approval and 51% disapproval (1,000 adults surveyed between April 9-13).
    • CBS News: 47% approval and 53% disapproval (2,410 adults surveyed between April 8-11).
    • Gallup: 44% approval and 53% disapproval (1,006 adults surveyed between April 1–14).
    • Rasmussen Reports: 50% approval and 48% disapproval (1,500 likely voters surveyed between April 10-16).
    • Tennessee: 59% approve and 38% disapprove through April 13.
    • Indiana: 54% approve and 42% disapprove through April 15.
    • New York: 36% approve and 61% disapprove through April 15.
    • Florida:  54% approve and 44% disapprove through April 15.

    20322 Do all the American voters - at least those with even ‘half a thinking brain’ - really realise what is going on in their national and the road it is taking . Post no 20322 sums it up for me . And then the ‘ roller coaster’- via no 20345. The VERY SIMPLE policy of FLOOD THE ZONE continues.     the demands given to Harvard university during the week were now apparently issued in error by a unauthorised official …removal of up to 9 billion in federal aide payments also wanted federal government to be able to dictate entrance policy plus a lots of others…….will be interesting to see how the lovely press secretary will ‘spin’ this if she is asked any questions about it….?

    Noel Casler, who worked on the set of The Apprentice, has written extensively on Twitter of Trump's behaviour, including his having a guard on the bedroom door. The guard is a hulking ex-NYPD heavy who would threaten fleeing women when they emerged out of Trump's bedroom and make it clear to them not to open their mouths about anything.

    There’s an element of that alright- confusion needs to be the order of the day simply because MAGA are taking a wrecking ball to the country - if they slow down it gives people too much of a chance to float real criticism - there’s so much complexity in terms of outcomes because there’s so much turmoil happening, no one can accurately assess impact and outcomes - there’s also the element of “as long as the other side is hurting more then what’s happening is ok” as per article below.

    The fact that the nationwide polls you quote show >40% approval fir Trump is really worrying. In most countries you can count on about 20% being either nutters, chronic contrarians, or real arthoritarians/fascists. But 40% going along with this?

    Just look at the CBS poll quoted and you can see the cherry picking. Trump doing much worse in many of the more detailed polls included there. Plus, a downward trend (47% is lowest in 3 months, and lest we forget, most aren't as tuned in as this thread's readers. Give it time.)

    Trump won 49.8% of the vote and 31/50 states in the November election.

    So he has lost about 5% support since November.

    I predict we might see some late 30% ratings during his presidency as we did last time, he doesn't have to worry about re election so one can imagine he will be even more divisive this time around.

    Even if he got 80% disapproval (there will always be some who approve) it would not make a difference, he is not going anywhere, even if he only has power till the mid terms he can obviously do massive damage before then. The more disapproval he gets, the more extreme and dictatorial he will get. Don't expect rational, his approach is 'I will force them to love me'.

    My original theory on Trump's presidency is that it's just one long con.

    It's like a magicians act. Do all the visually powerful stuff out in front with my right hand. Meanwhile the actual trick/ con is being carried out behind my back with my left.

    Trump tanked the stock market a week ago and then somewhat bought it back up less than 24 hours later. Can you imagine how much he and his circle made in those 24 hours?

    But he's thrown so much out into the public domain before and since, we're not even talking about it now.

    UKRAINE, GAZA, VENEZUELA, SUPREME COURT, stock market crash, HARVARD, RUSSIA, TARRIFS, CHINA, EU.

    Even if the entire country turned on him, he'd have enough made and hidden that he'd be long gone before he has to face the music.

    I actually think it's the cretins from Vance down that will ultimately push the US towards some backwards Christian fundamentalist far right nightmare that will do America the most harm.
