To win Team To reach final

    9/4 Barcelona 4/7

    5/2 PSG 10/11

    11/4 Arsenal 1/1

    9/2 Inter 8/5

Genuinely can't recall a more open last 4.

You'd imagine the Inter would be the one they'd have the most trouble with?

Inter look pretty attack minded to me. Athletico would have been the bogey side, I think.

Being 1-0 with 15mins to go in the Champions League Final was surely a better chance to win the thing than where they are right now

Yeah, we played them during the group stage, lost 1-0. We put pressure on them after they scored and had a couple good chances, but it never really looked we would score against them.

If Arsenal and Inter make it to the final, I'd expect a very cagey, and boring for the neutrals, match.

I'd agree with that but wouldn't that be true of the semi finals in the Champions League most years? Bar maybe Atletico getting that far most teams at this stage won't be parking the bus.

Madrid need real investment In the summer, Modric is nearly 40, they haven't replaced Kroos, who knows what Carvajal will come back as. They should definitely sell one of Rodrygo or Vini Jr, they need a striker not another winger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,895 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

do they definitely need a striker? Kind of means endrick is a write off

Agreed, maybe I'm just old school though and prefer my trials to take place in courtrooms, rather than bringing down the guillotine based on media reports. 🤷‍♂️

What I find ridiculous, is that this has been brought up just as Arsenal beat the holders to progress to the Semis. Seems deliberate to me.

If you told me Arsenal they’d have won 5-1 on aggregate over two legs before the first game I’d have called you crazy, watched parts of last nights game and Madrid really aren’t at much up front these days which is crazy but take nothing away from Arsenal that was a mega result, I’d love to them or inter win it from here now.

I exclusively refer to him as that and have done for quite a long time - nothing specifically to do with last night. As I said, I was very much going for Arsenal, and will be again against PSG. And I was only talking about the fella getting a yellow card - you’re the one who dragged it into the actual case.

and as for the courtroom - the reason I call them player x is so, even some 3 years after initial arrest, we don’t forget that a day in court is due and deserved by the victims and that some things are bigger and more important than football.

Fair enough, it just seemed like a taunt to me. You should say alleged victims though, otherwise you're showing prejudice.

Ancelotti was on a hiding to nothing this year.

Kroos and Nacho both left in the summer and weren't replaced. Big characters and leaders at the club.

Their defence is aging and wasn't exactly stacked with options anyway - and then they had Carvajal and Militao both suffer season ending injuries.

He had to shoe-horn Mbappe in somehow and find a way for him and Vini Jr. to play together. The team has looked really unbalanced all season.

Modric is near the end too. They need serious investment into Defence and midfield. Last night might be a wake up call for Perez. They need to invest in the squad, instead of just signing the occasional "superstar".

It shows what a wonderful player Kroos was, they look so much worse without him. It's clear that Mbappe Vinicus Jr and Rodrygo cannot all be in the team. Definitely have to move someone on in the summer.

ROdrygo will probably be the fall guy.

I would think the powers that be at Madrid will be thinking, "we bought the wrong English midfielder".

Wouldn't get my hopes up he's already bottled two league titles in a row. This is make or break for him win the Champions League or P45. Unfortunately it won't be as the Kroenkes are content with top 4 and UCL money so he has a contract for life just Wenger in the latter years.

If Spurs or United finish 17th and win the UEL and Arsenal lose in the final of UCL and finish 2nd in the league. Spurs or Utd will have had a better season than Arsenal.

Now that the minor stuff is done, on to the important games 😁

PSG are obviously a very good side but they're not unbeatable. I would say the tie is fairly 50/50 in terms of who goes through.

Arteta will not be getting his P45 this summer regardless of what happens against PSG, he's earned at least one more season in the eyes of most fans and I assume the ownership

Also, not CL related but how can a team bottle the league having spent literally zero days in first position all season?

the last two seasons , not this current one

so a team that won 16 of their last 18 games including their last 6 are accused of bottling a title. What a complete load of nonsense. The other lad was obviously just "trolling" but I think you are being genuine which is almost worse.

He bottled the league in 22/23 and 23/24. Could argue he bottled it this season too as this was his chance with City falling off.

I've already said he won't be sacked but he should be. He should be judged on trophies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,429 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

22/23 yes, 23/24 no, 24/25 N/A as the team was never on top. We'll agree to differ.

Very intrigued by the Barca Inter semi, it's a very hard game to call in my eyes. As basic as it sounds I think whoever scores the first goal is crucial as to how it goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,540 ✭✭✭dor83

The way Inter have been playing lately I'd fully expect Barca to win big on Wednesday, the Inter players look to have completely run out of steam and it's been visible for a while. The CL performances have generally been better than in Serie A but I just can't see anything other than an easy Barca win, unless Inter can really up their game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭pavb2

Arsenal at home first makes a difference I think they need to be taking a two goal lead to Paris.

Villa were 3-2 up at Villa Park and had PSG rattled for the last half hour. If Arsenal can get them on the back foot, take control of the game and crucially take their chances they can go through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,605 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

Arsenal to win over the two legs. PSG far too open and Arsenal are very solid at the back. Think it will be something like 4 2 Arsenal over the two games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭pavb2

Yes we failed to go through not only because of the last minute goal in Paris but also the two conceded in the first half at Villa Park.

I think it will be interesting to see how PSG perform if they are behind for any length of time and have to chase the game.
