Very good stats right now for aurora, obviously it's daylight so no use. And right on cue, most of Ireland set to be cloudy tonight 🙃

App saying visible from Northern parts of Ireland to the naked eye and possibly everywhere. Too cloudy so I can’t see anything.

Been watching Fort Dunree webcam. Very faint green hue on the horizon, but seems to be improving.

I got a very faint trace in one image, but with that needing a 50 sec exposure and the moon and clouds getting really bright with such exposures, It was a no go for me. I did get a nice shot of the Moon, though.

Scientists have discovered that on April 12 and 13, a rare double eruption of solar magnetic filaments occurred on the surface of the central star of our planet system. During this phenomenon, two coronal mass ejections occurred on the Sun. These huge clouds of charged particles can disrupt the Earth's magnetic field, causing geomagnetic storms.

According to scientists, storms in terms of power will correspond to moderate ones - class G2. Therefore, storms can cause visible auroras even beyond their usual latitude range, reaching the northern states of the United States.

"These solar storms are likely to move slowly but tightly, so they will have a good hit!" - wrote space weather physicist Tamita Skov on the social network X.

According to her, the consequences of explosions on the Sun will be felt on Earth on the evening of April 15 or early in the day on April 16. Determining the exact timing of magnetic storms on earth caused by the activity of the Sun is a difficult task, so predictions are usually inaccurate.

    Fingers crossed.

App reading currently amber level. Disturbance level 127.nT. Likely visible to eye from northern areas of Ireland and possibly countrywide. Photographs of Aura likely from anywhere according to app.

Too bright to tell yet and some patchy cloud to the north of me.

Edit- app just gone green. Not visible from anywhere. It can fluctuate a lot so I’ll check it again later.

    Red warning now

Fair bit of cloud and light pollution can faintly see it but not great

Indeed the two CMEs that were released during the weekend arrived yesterday. There was some beautiful substorms for those of you under clear skies in the west but the Bz stayed to the north for most of the night which killed off any chances of a big display developing. Relief for those of us in the cloudy, rainy east.

More clear spells for parts of the country tonight. Auroral stats are very good right now with a strong southward Bz but it's a long time until darkness hits. If they were to persist as they are now, we'd see a decent display tonight.

G3 conditions have been achieved, she's a big one. All peaking too early perhaps.

Yes red level on app last 4 hours. Strongest one I’ve seen since I started checking 600nT a while ago.

Stats are still holding for now so if you have clear and dark skies, you will see it on the northern horizon. Outbursts may bring it overhead when they occur.

Edit: And now the stats have just gotten worse. Bz has shot up north and other stats downgrading too.

Very nice cool evening, irrespective of anything else happening, but if it does, it's looking good.

In the second last image I was messing about with a pocket torch shining it at some trees - as you do… The last image is a crop from that image of the meteor that decided to photo bomb the party.
