Well I was thinking of getting a GPS put on the tractor. Not sure about the full bells and whistles with auto steer and all that, but something to use for fert/slurry* and just guide me along a line.

I've done a bit of reading and Topcon seem like a good candidate.

Anyone every retrofit a system on and if so, which one and how do ya find it?

    * by fert/slurry I actually mean rolling so me lines are super duper straight and the folks passing on the road will know I'm a serious operator

I moved from topcon to this. Far better and cheaper. Antenna will work from inside the cab so it's not in the open on the roof.

Screen is a tablet so large and can be removed. Lots of features on it that ya won't find on a topcon or the likes for double the money.

think i paid 1500 for it during black friday. Very happy with it. Use it for fert and spraying mostly. I went for the BT model

+1 I'd say the topcon will be at least double that

is the BT model only different to the pro + model due to the battery in the pro model ? Also any opinions on the mounts ? I have had windscreen mounts in my car for phones before that have not lasted too long !!

It could be a battle to convince the old lad to purchase. He got a new spreader this year as was complaining the old one was losing accuracy. I have my own feelings it may not have been the spreader

What about the easy tack that’s on DoneDeal. Looks a lot cheaper than the others. Would like something for fertilizer and spraying.

Interested in this too for fert and spraying etc - as with the op wouldn’t be worth the full auto after but A-B lines to follow would be very handy especially as it would allow spreading in the dark as I’ve got caught out a few times with starting spreading late and darkness catching me.

Out of interest how are people calibrating the spread width accurately, don’t really want to stand there wasting it on the spot trying to measure.

The BT model is Bluetooth as in the antenna doesn't need to be plugged into the tablet. This means you can be charging the tablet on the go.

The best thing I found about the GPS is that it throws out AB lines automatically wherever you drive. Very handy. Also it measures total acres covered and actual acres covered

Does that mean not having to run any wire from the antenna? Looking at videos not a fan of having that wire running down from the top of the cab.

Reggie mention the antenna would work from inside the cab (which is a big plus for me)

There is a power cable that runs from the antenna but just just stuck it behind a pillar.

IIt Works from inside the NH. there is a metal bar below the sunroof and it magnetic sticks to that. Can get full signal even with the sunroof hatch pulled down. Nothing on top of the roof

I heard a story about the farmer who could see his stolen new tractor travelling all the way down through France, but couldn't get Gardai and French police to knock head together and do something to get it back.

I forgot to take a tracker out of an excavator (it was sold) but waited to see where it landed. Pattaya in Thailand, probably having the time of its life
