The stats don’t back you up there. VW, Hyundai is what’s outright leading the registrations of EV’s in Ireland in 2025. BYD in 6th position.

VW is what’s outright leading I see a lot of 251’s in currently with a strange mix of 3 new Porsche Macans in my area! Very surprised by that!

    IMG_1023.jpeg

Then when you account for plug in hybrids which BYD do quite a few of, they are still in 6th position.

Top 5 demographically probably cover more areas, no? Are BYD selling countrywide?

Relatively speaking, yes, they have more garages than some of the brands above them.

    Dublin (x2)

    Waterford

    Cork

    Galway

    Kerry

    2026 P2…

Interior changes, audio upgrade, different battery, processing chip for the UI upgraded and new external colour……Will it be enough?

I am liking this colour though

They’re also quite small compared to something like an ID.4 for similar money but they do have tasteful interiors especially with some spec added. No dealer network outside Dublin hasn’t helped either. Extinction in Ireland may not be far away if sales don’t improve.

The interior is rather nice when you option the expensive leather package. I think the main problem is that it's not a decidated BEV platform and it shows. Cup holder placement is a joke. It has the worst knee space of any EV that i've driven, for the driver. Pure cloth seats as standard - at least some other brands try to do a half vegan leather to give interiors a more premium feel. I understand why people were rather critical of my post a few pages back; I said In'd rather buy a specced up ID3 than a PS2, I still stand by my conviction simply because what the PS2 offers in it's base package is so poor

In saying all that, I do like how it look's. I wish they offered pixel headlights as a more affordable optional extra.

I agree with the cupholder, shocking! I personally love the tight fit for the driver, I'm 6 foot tall and find it perfect. I was lucky to get the plus pack on mine and the seats are unreal. Best quality material I've seen in any car. It's literally bomb proof. I take the kid and dog everywhere in all weather with zero worrys. A rub of a wet wipe gets rid of anything. I've seen it described as similar to a wet suit and that sounds right. Its neither cold nor hot no matter the weather and looks the part. The finish in the cabin is also very good and miles ahead of an id3 to be honest but there is a massive price difference between the two so it's an unfair comparison. Id take a born any day over an id3 if I was looking to buy that sized car. Borns are very nice looking inside and out

I've had a 2 from Hertz twice in the last year and would say it is the most uncomfortable car I've ever driven. I am 6' tall and my right knee was constantly jammed up against the centre console. Bear in mind they were both LHD so maybe it feels a bit better the other way round but I'd definitely advise trying to do an extended test drive before buying one. On the plus side, I loved the Android Automotive and my passenger (a couple of inches shorter than me) felt it was a lovely drive.

You're probably right about it being a LHD thing. Pedals closest to the centre console would have your knee close to it. RHD isn't a problem since your left leg is just resting and can be in any position you find most comfortable.

Of course being lhd makes a difference! My left foot never moves so is rather comfortable sitting on the foot rest

test drove a polestar 4 the other day. More on that again.

    some general polestar points:

    1. They are going nowhere, new showroom has been built on the current site and will open shortly. It looks class.
    2. They are looking for a site in Cork
    3. They are not moving into Volvo dealerships but servicing will still be done there. I forgot to ask if they will service in the new showroom.
    4. They have a new website for Ireland launching Thursday.
    5. This could have been sales talk but their polestar 4 business edition is flying out the door. Bringing in 150 and about 15 left unreserved. They can only have one colour in that model to get under the grant threshold

    What's the Business Edition?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,384 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

A lower spec version to beat the grant threshold. Still has a few little options in it but limited in what you can add, as in they come preconfigured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 627 ✭✭✭eastie17

and it will only come in one colour, no options, can’t remember but I presume it’s the colour above

BYD don’t even make the top 5 here. 493 BEV registrations in 2025 so far. For context, VW have sold 1041 units of ID.4 alone.

Yeah it could look a lot slicker but it does the job.

that polestar 4 business edition looks like good value but will make it much harder for them to sell the higher priced versions which I’m assuming they would like to be doing.

yes test drove it on saturday, its deffo a contender for me, depends on how i like the byd sea lion 7.

Youd like a little more spec but the magnesium is a nice colour, okayish 20" wheels as std and a 100kwh battery so good range, youd want to really really like them to pay nearly 15k more for bigger wheels and a different colour.

    Just announced this morning…

Polestar strengthens collaboration with OHM Group and its retail business Spirit Motor Group and announces plans for a brand-new Polestar Space in Dublin.

Polestar, the Swedish premium electric performance car brand, strengthens the collaboration with OHM Group to assume Polestar’s sales and distribution operations in Ireland from 15 April 2025. OHM Group is involved in the exclusive distribution and retail of international brands and related aftersales services in the automotive and power solutions markets.

The Distribution Agreement with OHM Group is a long-term strategic move that will strengthen the Polestar brand in Ireland, including the development of a new permanent Polestar Space in Sandyford, Dublin in a transformative year with two new luxury electric SUVs, Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 now launched in the market.

This comes at an exciting time for the brand. Polestar launched in Ireland in 2022 with OHM Group’s retail business, Spirit Motor Group, as its sole partner with the premium electric fastback Polestar 2 and has delivered over 750 cars to date. Last year Polestar launched two new products - Polestar 3 and Polestar 4. In 2025 the Swedish premium electric performance brand plans to launch the Polestar 5, an F-segment electric performance 4-door GT.

To support the growth of the Polestar brand in Ireland, OHM Group’s retail arm, Spirit Motor Group will develop a new permanent Polestar Space in Sandyford, Dublin. The new state-of-the-art Polestar facility with a seven-car showroom and customer handover bays is located on the current site in Sandyford, providing the brand with a permanent home.

Aftersales support will continue to be offered by Spirit Motor Group and Polestar’s other five service partners in Ireland will continue to offer aftersales support, ensuring a seamless experience for Polestar customers.

What's to recommend this LRDM Plus over a Seal AWD?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,830 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

I see the warranty is now 5 years along with the 8 year battery warranty and a 12 year corrosion warranty.

I don't agree that the base car is poor. Yes it has material seats but they are good quality material seats. My wife changed her ID4 to a brand new one and it's better than the older generation but the charging software is still rubbish, the infotainment is over complicated and at least in a base Polestar the fit, finish and software is solid.

If you're 6 foot it's not a car I would consider. It's a good second car or company car, but not something you buy for interior space. It's comfortable and the cockpit feel has it's perks where your are travelling solo.

I've seen a few P4s about the last two weeks and in the right colour they are beautiful. The light blue is amazing. Greys and blacks are a bit forgetful as the shape isn't amazing. Glad to see them starting to sell.

Here's an email from Polestar Ireland this week.
