Cars and trucks and computers made in America use parts from china chips cpus and other electronic parts. Cars now use chips electronics sensors than ever before .If the us stopped imports from it would be a disaster for us business .Trumps tariffs have crashed the stock market and seriously weakened dollar . The dollar is no longer the default safe haven for investors .They can buy gold or other currencys .if you buy gold for 1000 euros you,ll make s profit I'f you sell it in 3 years from now .

unless trump reverse,s his tariffs stance he,ll cause lasting damage to the American economy

Watch this video. Its a decent dive into the huge US law firms kissing the kings gold ring, bending the knee & rolling over. And as if this were not enough there is the amount of pro-bono / free work they are going to be doing for trump admin over next 4 years, its astonishing. Quiet terrifying to be honest

There are probably some Paxman like figures around, but they wouldn’t be let next or near Trump. I would love to see Medhi Hassan, for example, let loose on Trump, but it would never happen.

Seems these pharma tariffs are imminent .. from the horses mouth, vid below.

    Elsewhere reported Trump as saying:

“Yeah, we’re going to be doing that, that’s going to be like we have on cars,” Mr. Trump said seated next to El Salvador President Nayib Bukele. “We, as you know, have a 25% tariff on cars, we have a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum, and that’s what that category fits right now.”He said the tariffs would be placed “in the not-too-distant future.”

So 25% looks like the Pharma tariff too - what does this do to Ireland PLC?

He is outsourcing prisoners to El Salvador 20k $ per prisoner per year. Next month he may want them back to keep prison jobs in US. 😁

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Interesting way to bring down the costs of guarding long sentence violent prisoners - they’ve already outsourced prisons to private companies in America - it makes total monetary sense to outsource it to another country paying a fraction of what they would in the USA .

I anticipate a massive increase in executions on death row for similar reasons - human rights have essentially been suspended in America that’s for sure -

    Language sounding a bit tougher.

Perhaps realisation that plamás and kissing Trump's "ass" (as the great man himself put it) at best grants reprieve for a time, before the bully will come after you yet again for something else.

In other words there will probably be no good options available, only bad (responding at some stage) and worse (lying back, and taking the abuse).

First, he tried disappearing a green card holder without due process.

    Next stop…. Citizens!!!

I'm struggling to see the impact on Ireland for the Pharma stuff from the Tariffs to be honest.

The pressure on a manufacturer with tariffs is the loss of Sales due to the increased cost or people shifting to the local version to avoid the tariff completely.

Neither of those things are really a viable option for most people in the US currently buying medication.

Unlike where you might decide to not upgrade your car/phone/computer etc. to avoid the increased costs , you can't decide not to be Diabetic or whatever any more.

Tariffs on Pharma are going to really really hurt the US consumer but the Manufacturers will still hit their revenue targets.

Even if they all bent the knee to Trump the day he announces the tax , absolutely nothing changes for many years - At best it would take them 5 years to shift manufacturing in any meaningful way.

And - None of them are going to make major financial decisions based on what Trump says, given that they know he'll change his mind again in a few days/weeks.

They'll all tell him they are planning to move factories and spend billions but in reality they'll spend a few million on "planning" etc. and keep kicking the can down the road to placate him and allow him to bask in the adulation of his cult for "Saving American Manufacturing"

I think it's something like a third of Irish made pharma goes to the US anyway. Probably just open new markets.

    That too.

The US delusion of being all powerful and that the world cannot survive without them is crumbling before their eyes..

Also, does the American workforce have the expertise to work in large extra numbers in the pharmaceutical industry? That would require a lot of people not currently involved in pharma with degrees and masters degrees in pharmacy, chemistry, biology etc.

An excellent point also that major industries are not going to make long term investment decisions based on the whims of a flaky nutjob in the White House who performs about 10 U-turns a week.

What's shocking is that we've been so accustomed to his craziness that we wouldn't (well, me anyway) be in the least surprised if he actually said that.

By any chance did the US staffers offer to provide you with a list or summary of what they alleged were your improper documentations so as to be of proper assistance to you for the future?

Somehow, given the guidance they are getting from their feuding seniors, I doubt it.

Donald Trump is a human trafficker.

Kilmer Abrego Garcia was sent to El Salvador by Trump despite there being an order that he was lawfully in the US.

And it came out yesterday that Rumeysa Ozturk, the Turkish student who was lifted off the street was done so without any supporting evidence that she had engaged in any terrorist type activities and they detained her anyway.

    We're 3 months in…

Ukraine, you owe me 300b, time to pay.

Syria, made president from one of the most wanted terrorist.

Israel, you better clean out Gaza.

    Gaza, my future casino project.

Yemen, I am sending my bombs to you.

Iran, I will unleash hell on you.

China, still waiting for the phone call.

Rest of the world, come kiss my @$$ or else.

What will he do in 6 days. Will he activate the insurrection act on April 20?

Basically taking full control over the police and armed forces and authorizing himself to deploy the military on American soil against US citizens

    https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/donald-trump-may-impose-martial-law-type-order-on-april-20-what-we-know-8162828

Trump said on jan 20th that he would declare a National emergency over the southern border within 90 days

    Chomsky(2017) on the Republican party

"Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?"

We'd be mostly competing with other imports.

People can delay purchases of cars or buy locally. Neither are options for most pharma.

Patented medicines are a license to extract money. The US has a history of ratcheting up the price of insulin or epi-pens even if certain to result in deaths.

Generics are made in India for a fraction of the price they could be made in the US.

Tariffs make this another per-user tax which the rich can more easily afford, especially since the goal was to replace income tax with tariffs.

No. Nothing. When you get an L1 visa, you get the sticker in your passport. And some big print out book with regulations or conditions for the visa or something. There is also some form that the embassy staff have told us to bring with us when first travelling on a new first time issue of the visa, or a renewal. Which I have done multiple times. I can't remember if they give it back. But I've never been asked for it before, other than above scenarios.

I told them that their embassy is not listing this as a requirement and if they could tell me the name of the form and where it is stated I should have this form with me, as I'll need to inform my employer. But they didn't tell me. Just told me that I should have got it with my visa. They didn't really listen to any explanation or questions I had. Outside of their questions, they interacted with me to the bare minimum.

Irelands answer is to do nothing. Let the American public pay the 25% extra. Half of them deserve it for voting in an unqualified ignoramus with the manners of a rabid chimpanzee.

Building those pharma plants in the USA is going to be an unmitigated failure, like the microchip Fab plants.

US technicians are not going to put on those bunny suits for 40 hours a week, especially on technicans wages. That's why AMD and Intel scarpered from the USA 40 years ago to Ireland and Korea.

Problem is it will take Trumps bozos a couple of years to figure that out.

A pity they can't deport Trump. Oh the irony if this backfired on Trump and he got deported to that prison in Al Salvador. He is a rapist and a convicted criminal after all.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

He is a nasty, vintictive buffoon which was amply demonstrated over the decades yet the American people elected the fwit to represent them across the whole world….

The disciples will claim he is a 'straight talker' and 'telling it as it is' (we all know he is their mirror image and that's how they speak to each other most of the time).

Sadly, this could be appropriate for the times we are in, maybe not so much as didn't speak out but didn't speak out loudly enough.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
