At a glance that may look to be true.

But remember Prigozhin spoke out against this and Russians reasons for invading Ukraine before his surge towards Moscow.

In the main nobody in Rostov or other locations on the way tried to stop him and many joined him. Deep down the Russians clearly don't believe the Kremlins lies, they're just afraid of what would happen if they publicly denounced them.

So up until a point there's a challenger strong enough to speak out against Putin, they will pretend they believe what the Kremlins says......they don't.

Sadly most Russians just stood aside and didn't join him. They didn't have the required man power to take Moscow. If he couldn't rally them nobody will. Russians are stuck in a depressed and hopelessness cycle and will just accept whatever happens.

Most Russians didn't know what was happening, and in true Russian fashion, waited to see who was going to come out on top. Prigozhin only wanted to talk with Putin about Shoigu and Gerasimov, whose military costs were covered by the state, whereas Prigozhin's costs were not, he was funding the costs himself, and he wanted to level the playing field. I don't think that it was an overthrow attempt, after all, himself and Putin were buddies as far as it went, he had been Putin's chef for several years. So he stopped his convoy several klms short of the Kremlin, and after a discussion where presumably Putin gave him guarantees that he would sort out the problem with Shoigu and Gerasimov, turned back and headed for Rostov-na=Don, and we all know how that ended. The point is had Prigozhin continued to the Kremlin he could have staged a coup,,,Putin was long gone, once he heard that an armoured column was on the road to the Kremlin, one which fought back when challenged. So, Putin, thinking that maybe the military had joined Prigozhin had fled. Leaving the road to the Kremlin was wide open. Matters took another turn when crowds turned up everywhere Prigozhin went, cheering him on. This was a flashing red light for Putin,,and the deathknell for Prigozhin.

Fair enough. It's pretty critical that these sorts of cooperative projects in Europe are made to work and produce something, given events in the US + the dangerous world we are heading into.

I think/expect the attitude towards it at political level (from now on) will be kind of like it was with getting Covid-19 vaccines manufactured, so would be very surprised if it is allowed to fall apart and fail, no matter how much a CEO of a company involved wants to shít on it.

Ukrainians reporting another F16 was shot down today. Russians said it was an S400 missile from the Belgorod region. That's 2 so far. 21 year old pilot died, RIP.

Vicious attack on civilians in the centre of Sumy on palm Sunday. If people think Ukrainians will be forgiving Russians anytime soon even after the war they're deluded.

There's no way he'll agree to peace this year. Putin will throw everything at Ukraine from may until October while the ground is good for mechanised attacks. He'll likely try make gains in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporozhye, maybe dnipro, sumy and chernyhiv.

IMO if he goes all out like that the Russians are going to have problem's after this year. And he'll go with the begging bowl to trump as soon as the problems arise.

    *GRAPHIC WARNING CIVILIAN CASUALTIES*

Happy Palm Sunday from Russia to their Ukrainian brothers.

Another murderous Russian attack, dozens of civilians killed, the world shrugs its shoulders and talks about a ceasefire.

    Sickening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭fly_agaric

US focus right now seems to be not on peace, but on extorting Ukraine, (IMO) a step up + success by Russia in targetting their civilians aids that (horrible as it is to think about).

e.g. some new demand from the US about getting control over Ukraine's gas pipelines:

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/apr/12/us-demands-control-from-ukraine-of-key-pipeline-carrying-russian-gas

Wonder if it is some weird ducks around Trump obsessed with fossil fuel energy + the US (and themselves personally perhaps) getting a "piece" of Russo/Ukrainian action to supply the rest of Europe with it after the war (no matter how it all ends, they likely won't actually care if Ukraine's govt. collapses and Russia wins, they think they will just deal with Putin).

Really stupid people, but also devious and amoral with it. They'd sell their own grannies and mothers to make a few bob.

Is there any website or list online of Russian businesses in Ireland or businesses that have links to the Russian economy, Kremlin?

Similarly russian influencers, bots, irish kremlin sympathisers online, lists.

At least 34 confirmed killed now.

Always marvel at the self restraint shown by the Ukrainians. Must be very tempting to respond in kind by say, "accidentally" striking some apartment block or social gathering in Russia, but they never do.

And still they don't get the support they need to simply defend themselves.

Putin is clearly not remotely interested in peace this year. I don't know what sort of a game he's playing with Trump, but it's definitely not connected to a ceasefire or peace anyway.

It is absolutely remarkable the restraint that they have shown

An absolutely appalling attack on civilians in Sumy, Russia is just committing a war crime after another.

More on Russia's cultural crimes and attempts to eradicate Ukrainian identity

    Even Kellogg condemned it-

Kurt Kellogg, special representative for Trump, strongly condemned the Russian strike on civilian targets in Sumy on Palm Sunday. He said: "Today's attack on civilians in Sumy on Palm Sunday crosses every line of decency. There are dozens of dead and wounded among innocent civilians. As a former military man, I understand what target selection means, and this is wrong. This is why President Trump is working hard to end this war."

It looks like history is starting up again.

A Russian radio-electronic research vessel conducted "offensive actions" near the coast of Ireland
    Publication date: 13.04.2025

The French portal Zone Militaire reported on Friday, 11.04.2025, that given that three-quarters of the hemisphere's submarine cables pass through its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and that it represents a sensitive point of NATO (of which it is not a part) due to its weak military capabilities, Ireland regularly reports the presence of Russian intelligence ships and submarines in the waters for which it is responsible.

In recent years, under the leadership of the Main Directorate of Deep Sea Research of the Russian Ministry of Defense (GUGI), the oceanographic vessel Yantar, equipped with two mini-submarines, has attracted the attention of the Irish and British authorities on several occasions, due to its behavior near critical underwater infrastructure.

It was the case again just last November, when Yantar was spotted next to submarine telecommunications cables and an interconnection pipeline in the Irish Sea.

While closely monitored by the patrol vessel LE James Joyce and a C295 maritime surveillance aircraft from the Irish Air Corps (IAC), the vessel deployed three aerial drones.

"Security sources said the purpose of the ship was unclear, but there was some concern," the Irish Times reported at the time.

In any case, the Yantar is not the only Russian ship that frequents Ireland's EEZ. In recent days, the Irish patrol ship LE Samuel Beckett has been tracking the Russian radio-electronic research vessel Viktor Leonov. The latter is also monitored by an IAC C295, as well as a Royal Air Force surveillance aircraft based in Lossiemouth (probably a P-8A Poseidon).

According to Radio and Television of Ireland (RTÉ), "The Irish Naval Service attempted to communicate with Viktor Leonov to clarify his intentions in the area. But, the ship did not respond, although it confirmed receipt of the message sent."

"Viktor Leonov has not violated any maritime laws, but previous sightings of similar warships have raised concerns about Russian surveillance or mapping of Irish submarine infrastructure and cables," the Irish Times pointed out.

Belonging to the Vishnia class, the Viktor Leonov is a ship with a displacement of about 3,000 tons and a length of 91 meters. Armed with two 30 mm cannons and SA-N-8 surface-to-air missiles, the ship is equipped with sensors dedicated to intercepting electromagnetic signals.

We need a submersible drone equiped with cable cutting gear. Every time one of these shows up it shadows the vessel from beneath and if anything gets lowered beneath; snip.

Ukraine must be trying every day to put a bullet in Putin's head, why is he so hard to get to. Of course they are trying to do the same to Zelensky, surprised one of the 100's of flights he goes on doesn't go down

"I've been told it was a mistake" - Trump.

Two missiles fired into a civilian population, the second one precisely timed to cause death and devastation on those assisting the victims of the first one. Someone on the news just now wryly observing that Trump is 'very forgiving ' of Putin's errors. Without shame, as are those who still support him.
