Similar tactics to RAF slower piston engined fighters that were on paper outmatched by advanced next generation German jet fighters towards the end of WW2 . Instead of taking them on in a dog fight they would follow them back to their base & shoot them down as they made their landing approach.

Taking out an advanced & expensive enemy weapon with a much cheaper drone is very similar. Looks like Russian air base defensive weapons systems are often not fit for purpose like in this instance. They can't prevent attacks on many of their energy facilities & military infrastructure judging by recent events either.

During landing would suggest, if a catastrophic strike (i.e. no ability to safely crash-land the aircraft), a high chance of pilot death also?

I mean this is a huge blow to Russia. Massive revenues being lost at the minute.

Been enjoying seeing Ukraine drop french AS Hammer bombs on Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod recently.

Ukraine has a weird new drone toy flying over Moscow

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Wonder is that real? The constant zooming out and the fact that they stop firing at it. Be cool if Aliens decides to pop down and **** up Moscow

Interested in this ,Russia are firing at it but no impacts, even though its heavy ordinance, but the so called drone doesn't fire or deliver its payload, if its real, ya never know.

It looks like history is starting up again.

That's just a regular Russian helicopter with weird lights

Yeah, most likely a Helicopter with Lights on the Blade tips.

It seemed to be pouring out smoke, or some other aerosol. The Ukrainians aren't going to send a drone covered in lights, so is it one of their own and the smoke is a result of all that ordnance being fired at it? Could be why the firing suddenly stopped.

I hope it was another own goal.

Evidence suggests that russians mistook their helicopter for a Ukrainian strike UAV which coincided with a real drone attack in Naro-Fominsk

In the small russian town of Naro-Fominsk, adjacent to Moscow and located about 400 km from Ukraine, local air defense forces most likely shot down an allied helicopter on the night of April 10, after mistaking it for a Ukrainian one-way attack drone.

    :-)

Looks like the euro lead FCAS 6th gen fighter program is coming unstuck. Dassault seems to be trying to ditch the Germans and others and go it alone.

    Praise the lord.

When U.S. President Donald Trump paused military aid to Ukraine last month, the man described as his "spiritual advisor," Pastor Mark Burns, backed the decision.

This week, Burns is urging him to send Kyiv more tanks, fighter jets, and air defense.

"I now believe that supporting Ukraine is America first," he told the Kyiv Independent in an interview on April 9.

Burns's dramatic shift in stance comes after a trip to Ukraine where he witnessed the atrocities committed by Russia first-hand, visiting the site of a missile attack in Kryvyi Rih, which killed 20 people, including nine children.

The Kyiv Independent spoke with Burns to find out more about his visit, and why he's now urging everyone to "throw politics out the window" and back Ukraine.

Editor's note: The interview has been edited for language and clarity.

The Kyiv Independent: Can you describe what has caused you to change your stance on Ukraine?

Pastor Mark Burns: Obviously being on the ground in Ukraine has changed my opinion significantly. I am on record as being one of the staunch opponents of supporting Ukraine.

But it took me being in Kyiv, being at Bucha, seeing the atrocities that have taken place, innocent lives being killed, executed, and knowing the nearly 700 religious institutions have been intentionally targeted by the Russians, and 20,000 children have been kidnapped and deported back to Russia, not including the 1.3 million children that are unaccounted for.

When you hear these atrocities… It changed my perspective significantly. I now believe that supporting Ukraine is America first.

If I didn't believe the Krasnov allegation, I would be quite hopeful that this might bring about change for the better.

Soldiers of the 14th Brigade of the National Guard "Chervona Kalyna" conducted an emergency blood transfusion to a wounded comrade, who could not be evacuated due to constant shelling.

The reserve blood was delivered by drone. The story of the soldier's rescue was told in the press service of the brigade.

During a fierce battle with the enemy in the Pokrovsk direction, one of the servicemen was seriously wounded – he quickly lost blood, and it was impossible to evacuate the man due to heavy fire.

The only chance to save the soldier was an urgent blood transfusion. However, in the field, without a surgeon, plasma and standard medical equipment, the procedure seemed "almost impossible".

"The solution was found with lightning speed: the reserve blood was delivered... by drone. From the rear, where there was a mobile medical point, doctors prepared a container with blood, securely fixed it and sent it directly to the line of fire by drone.

The blood was successfully dumped right into the shelter where the wounded's comrades were. All that happened next was teamwork and faith," the Chervona Kalyna brigade said.

Soldiers of the reconnaissance company conducted a transfusion under the guidance of a surgeon via video link. The procedure was successful.

"The soldier was stabilized and later evacuated to the hospital. Today, his condition is stable. And the whole story is another reminder: in this war, not only weapons and drones win, but also determination, ingenuity and brotherhood," the brigade emphasized.

Wow. Contrast with the Orcs care and concern for their wounded, dead and cannon fodder.

I think he may be realising that Putin has played him like a fiddle. He is even taking the piss out of him about tariffs. And the only way he fragile ego can deal with it is to not mention Russia at all and pretend its not real

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

I'm in two minds in this. Either you're right or Trump is a russian asset. Or maybe he's just an idiot. Or two of the above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,803 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

Well he knows he'll have to 'mention the war' again soon enough but if he reaches a determination that Putin isn't serious about peace there will have to a drastic change of course but it's hard to execute that with the tariff stuff going on…

Am I imagining this or have I been seeing stuff for years about that military project failing + falling apart in acrimony + how it will waste loads of money and never produce an aircraft? 🤷‍♂️ Going to make a crude generalisation but I do get suspicious of stuff like that if it is in UK media.

They seem to me to have such a grá for idea of France and Germany (and by extension the EU of course) failing and in permanent crisis mode. It's catnip for all levels of the UK press, from Express and the Daily Mail right up to the FT and the Economist.

(edit: I don't really know anything about this programme beyond the name + it exists and is on the go for several years, but I'd imagine there is some fire lit under both France and Germany at political level now to make it work and get flying aircraft out of it asap, when you have Trump cratering US relations with all European allies, and brown nosing Putin.)

This has nothing to do with the UK. It comes from a Romanian defence publication and is based on the head of Dassault addressing questions in the French parliament.

He's too busy manipulating markets to help the rich make billions at the expense of the dumbf**k rednecks who voted for him. Ukraine seemed too much like actual work for him so he just turned to something more fun and the media followed.
