Trailer does make the comedy aspect a look a little forced, but I will absolutely will be checking it out as the book series is one of my favourite sci-fi book series. The books are humorous rather than comedic, so the direction taken may be to make it more 'filmable' to go alongside the frequent action-sequences. Fingers crossed it works.

First two episodes out and looking cool indeed. Internal monologues done well. Liking the casting and so far so great. Only blip is the episodes are so short but then the books were mostly novellas rather than novels so I guess the material isnt there for 12 hour long episodes. More a complaint of approval. Dont want to wait a week for just 30 minutes or less. :/

not funny enough for the dumbness of the characters.

I watched the first two episodes...it was ok at best...the tone is just a bit odd, if it is meant to be funny it isn't really imo, I could do without the star trek style TV show interludes but maybe that is true to the source?

    no. they're butchering it.

Only that id read the books and am hoping they redeem it....I wouldn't have finished the second ep.

    pure mess. pure shite

I think its quite good although I agree the tone is a bit more silly than the books.

The scientists aka Preservation Aux research team seem a bit infantile in their day-to-day stuff for serious expedition scientists. Dancing outworld 'hippies' seems to be the tone which is a little disappointing 'cos it infantilises and downplays the corporate/system critique that is an important aspect of the Murderbot books. Corporates are exploitative cut-throats in the books. Maybe Apple dont want to go there being an exploitative corporate themselves.
But Mensah is well cast and Ratthi and Gurathin are actually excellent imo.

And no the books dont actually describe Sanctuary Moon or World Hoppers stuff like in actual snippets but I'm OK with it. It's not easy to get the book tone across and let it be something that non bookers can follow and like. There will always be a compromise so it's not book accurate - no TV adaption ever is - but it has its own moments. I like it.

Ah ok not just me then. It seems to be getting pretty good reviews weirdly.

Reddit reviews on /r/television were incredibly positive too..

.. I switched it on and thought it was very uneven tonally, and not very entertaining.

Not funny enough to be a comedy and not dramatic enough to be a drama.. drab sci-fi probably best I could say about it.

A lot of people on reddit are fans of the books and Martha Wells fans too. This has been eagerly awaited over there and will have met many readers expectations therefore will have positive bias. Including from me admittedly, the books are excellent. And while they have humorous notes too they are a little more serious.

But if you have never heard of Murderbot before and you dip into the tv series you might wonder wtf is this.

I have enjoyed all the episodes so far. I was expecting the first episode to be 45 minutes long and then I realised it was only 30 minutes I was disappointed but otherwise I enjoy most of it.

that hippy jumping in front of the ship was bollox. they've made a total cock up of the people selection and how they actually act is crap. Even if I hadn't read the book it's crap but coming from the book and looking at this. pfffffft. crap.

I couldnt watch ep3. probably won't. I was gonna see if it improves but then id have to watch it as thereviews saying this is actually good are plentiful. weird.

Total mess made of mensa character.

I am beginning to be disappointed by it.

There is a humurous note in the books but the show is turning slapstick comedy a bit especially with the last episode and not in a good way.

The Preservation crew is basically portrayed as a bunch of stumbling snowflake halfwits and Murderbot isnt much better. Also some subtle but weird changes to the characters like Guratin sniffing Mensahs pillows wtf is that about?

The books have a humorous note what with Murderbots inner monologues being pretty sarcastic and funny at times but overall they're pretty space opera and serious enough not slapstick anyway.

very short episodes as well where not a lot happens.

It's owed to the source material. First season is 'All Systems Red' which is a just over 100 pages novella.
