I heard Paschal on with Pat Kenny this morning though and overall he said he was quietly optimistic Ireland would be able to weather the storm. It's not as if Ireland was teetering on the edge of recession when the orange fruitcake took office three months ago - the economy was and is in great shape and the country is at full employment. We may well be in a position to manage a global downturn and not have to go through some sort of huge financial crash, even if we have a rocky period for the next while.

Ha...his latest social media post. Trump causes chaos with the world's stock markets to then announce a 90 day pause.

It does look like 10% is immediate though.

Already he has postponed the tariffs on every country apart from China .

You're right, but an ~8% tariff rate increasing to a 104% tariff rate would account for the increase in tariffs on the toys from 26k to 346k

I read that, I wonder if it's real this time or just another hoax!

This guy is a complete and utter freak. No company in their right mind would even consider investing a shed load of cash in opening new factories in the US while this guy is in charge. The US is a complete and utter laughing stock under this man.

CNBC is reporting that Trump has posted on his site "Truth Social" that he has authorised a ninety [90] day stay on the tariffs he put on all countries bar China. RTE has spoken of the same on it's news headlines.

Is this Trump blinking first in a fight between equals?

This is madness who one man can rant and cause markets to dip or rise by 10 percent in minutes of his stupidity on social media .

when is the stop button going to be pressed on this ugly man.

Can I ask a question to anyone who is from economics background. If china keep dumping bonds and the us bonds rise high enough . Could it be possible America defaults on its loans and what would happen to the rest of the world if the dollar and US are no longer a pillar of world trade .

It can cause difficulties but I doubt enough to bring down the dollar

They have aboutish 750 out of 4200bn in securities

Depends if it starts a stampede (possible) Ireland has 336bn in comparison

So his Tarriffs that he made a big song and dance about last week are 'paused' on the same day they were brought in, except for China, the only other billy-big-balls in town, where its gone up to 125% in the latest round of willy-waving.

    Absolute cretin.

Trump has absolutely blinked first - looking forward to his sycophantic followers refusing to admit it. Though obviously the trade war with China isn’t going to stop anytime soon. Numbers are just getting silly now.

"We hang on to what little hope we have I guess".

Never give up hope Oscar, we're saved again! No need for the prayer sins now. We shall prevail!

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Fighting with China, their primary technology manufacturer is still bad news for the average US citizen.

The disciples will claim this is a master stroke - he could tell them literally anything and they will think it is a great idea.

with all the talk on tariffs the last two days, no one noticed Trump annexing Greenland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,844 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

In another problem [probably just a blip for him] on the federal management level, Trump's 3rd temporary head [Melanie Krause] of IRS has resigned after she reportedly had only heard on Fox News that the administration had struck up a deal for the agency - via Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent - to share undocumented immigrants’ taxpayer data with the Department of Homeland Security.

This is mad stuff. You have to imagine, at some point, an adult enters the room and we get some form of normality albeit God knows what damage will be done in the meantime. I've never seen the like of it and never thought I would. Intrigued to see where it goes. To be fair, I can see why Trump wanted to address some of the trade deficits but the way he's done it is bonkers.

Time it right and there is a fantastic buying opportunity here on stocks. No way that billionaires will continue to stand by while they lose billions.

    Art of the Deal:

    1) Impose massive tariffs on nearly every country that crash the markets and create the conditions for global economic collapse

    2) Make zero deals with zero countries

    3) Pause tariffs

    4) VICTORY!!

I mean the SEC is reasonably robust as a regulator/oversight mechanism, but **** hell this is ripe for corruption, this guy just shattering or raising the markets on his whims, disgusting carry on.

A capitulation by Trump, simple as really. The markets will make him capitulate on the China tariffs eventually too.

This is honestly an insane way to run a country.
