They do. Small underneath bag and a jacket stuffed with more stuff.

Last time I flew a person had their bag in the tray for security. Because of the wheels it didn't lie flat in the tray, was at a slight angle (was minimal, I have seen much worse go through) as the wheel caught the side of the tray. The worker said they couldn't x ray as it wouldn't fit, and it would have to go back and be checked in. Supervisor was called over who wasn't any way sympathetic either…

That's pure nonsense. Sure you don't have to put a bag into a tray at all. Airport security don't tell passengers to check in luggage. None of this happened.

It did happen, I was standing right behind the person!! It may have been because of the new machines they used, it was the security section to the left (T1 Dublin Airport). But don't let that stop you deciding otherwise.

It didn't happen because it didn't fit flat in a tray and it didn't happen because the wheels meant it was at an angle.

The only reason it could possibly have happened is that the case itself was too big for the xray machine. And if that was the case then it's far too big for carry on anyway

Why cant people just follow the rules of a service/product they are purchasing? There is plenty of things worth moaning about in life but Ryanair isn't one. I've never been stung or scammed by Ryanair, all I've enjoyed is cheap largely on time travel around Europe.

" I'll never travel with them again" - fine pay double to Aer Lingus

"Michael o Leary is a thief" - he's not hes an incredibly astute CEO

Going by the article (and I accept the people in the article might not be 100% truthful) they are following the rules but they are being punished anyway. They say their bags fit within the bag sizer thing and Ryanair staff are saying they have to pay anyway.

I could be wrong but I think it might be soft bags that are the right size when empty and bulk out when standing upright ? If you could lie them down in the sizer they would fit? That's what I'm seeing in Instagram anyway.

I think they think they are following the rules because they never used to get pulled up. But now the rules are being enforced strictly and they don't like it. I didn't see anyone give the dimensions of their bags………….

I wouldn't say I'll never fly with them again, nor would I call the CEO a thief.

But those bag sizers are around a long time and if your bag fitted in you were ok.

Now they have added a tape marker and your bag can fit in the sizer but go over the marker costing you a "fine".

This is worthy of discussion if only to warn customers and possibly save them €60.

The Aer Lingus underseat bag dimensions are smaller than Ryanair's. Just to note!

But they don't seem to challenge anyone, or do they?

I travel often with Aer Lingus and I have seen them challenging bag sizes a bit recently but, it is still the metal cage and, if you can squish it in then all good, not looking for bulges (yet).

I use AL very rarely, but maybe they don't have the option of an underseat bag ONLY. I dunno.

If the bag fits then Ryanair can't fine you. Simply refuse to pay the fine if the bag fits. Record it etc on your phone. Another element of gouging.

According to the Irish Times article, Ryanair are saying that if it fits the sizer then you won't pay extra even if it is over the sticker. People's experiences seem to be different to that so it is definitely worthy of discussion.

It needs to be crystal clear to all customers and staff.

At the end of the day you've just booked a flight and you want to get to your destination with minimum hassle.

What you don't want is to be called out of the line line like a naughty school kid and get stiffed for €60.

I wish Ryanair just sold the 'perfect' bag to suit their requirements. They used to sell a regular case years ago. It is so hard to find the exact dimensions and especially as other airlines vary by a few millimetres and bags are labelled as 'carry-on'. I got caught with a 'craft bag' designed for a sewing machine. It fitted under the seat and I had travelled several times with same but the handle stuck up a small bit. I am short and would have struggled to put overhead and it was neat fit underseat.

You'll be left standing at the boarding gate if you do that.

No point in being right if you're left behind!

Can ANYTHING be done about Ryanair's treatment of customers? Is it answerable to anyone?

Or is it a law unto itself?

Was thinking exactly that yesterday standing on a bus beside the plane in stifling heat for 20 minutes. They really don't give a sh1t about the person on the other end of the €€€'s
Why on earth did they send 3 buses out to the plane if it wasn't ready.

They were a little lax and people took advantage ?

Surely not ! Pat isn't like thaaat...a stickler for de rules... so he is wha ?

This is a regular occurrence. You move down the stairs at the airport then have to stop behind a locked door at the bottom of the stairwell. Ten minutes would be standard. Then you move out and stand at the bottom of the steps of the plane until they are ready to let you board. Another 10 minutes.

    or

They squash you in to a bus without air conditioning and drive you to the plane and leave you trapped inside in the stifling heat for anything up to 15 minutes. I was on such a bus last September and people were banging on the window to get out. The driver was outside talking to someone and couldn't have cared less.

noticed in that video, she said there is only room for 100 bags in the overhead storage and there are 197 (?) Passengers on a flight.

So, do Ryanair stop charging people for carry on when they have 100 passengers with overhead cases?
