I currently ride an auto 110cc Honda. My instructor said to buy a 125cc manual for the test. Was looking at gn125s but there aren't many around.

    Any advice much appreciated!

If you have a bike and don't want to change it or don't have a bike and don't/can't get one just yet then just arrange to use the instructors bike for the day, you won't have to worry about paperwork or anything on the day of the test.

I was riding a Tmax 500 then passed test on Instructors A compatible bike.

The GN125 is a lovely little bike, I rode it on the IBT.

Here's a GN125 if you're in Dublin it would be worth a look.

There's this, a bit far maybe but you could take a look and have it delivered.

Honda CBF in Dublin, cheaper to insure than the CBR 125, the R has around 15 Hp the F has 9.

Loads of 125s out there, not so many GN125 as you say but if you're after the GN125 take a look at that one in the link above, they sell fast so grab it if you like it and it checks out because it's biking season now…….

OP you'll need to learn and practice how to work manual gears and clutch. So not a question of just hiring a suitable bike for the day of the test (people do do this, but if their own bike doesn't fit the licence class they're going for - they'd already be experienced with clutch and gears on their own bike)

That's going to get pretty expensive to get enough practice in to get you to test standard. You might as well buy a bike - learner friendly models hold their value well so if you buy smart you can sell it on for what you paid.

Do you really want to be limited to 125cc though? Might be worth considering getting an A2 bike 😎

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

I happy with a 125 for now, I can use progression in 2 years time to level up?

There aren't many gn125s going. Is there any other model of bike that you guys would recommend?

Hond Varadero 125, He doesn't say what year it is.

    Bit more powerful than GN125.

You can level up 2 years after passing your test but you can only do this once , so you can't go to A from A2 this way.

You will need to do the A2 modules of the IBT and the cert from that will allow you to get the A2 license.

Going straight to A is always better if possible.

There's cruiser type bikes like the Suzuki Maurader @137 Kg lighter than the Varadero and lower to the ground.

You'll have to get used to chain maintenance too.

I wouldn't get too obsessed with power, there are millions of people all over the world riding Honda Super Cub 125s with 9 Hp and love them, check them out on youtube. If you're riding main roads and commuting on motorways all day then you might want something with more power, even 40 Hp would make a massive difference.

I ride roads mostly 60-100 Km/h so power isn't a big requirement for me.
