What do you propose to address this imbalance?

obviously the provincial system is holding back any change, but it’s patently obvious that 5 of the best 7 teams over the last 20 years are in Munster, but any 2 of those 5 won’t make it to QF every year while KK and Galway will pretty much always qualify with one of Wexford or Dublin or Offaly.

There must be a way of bringing league form into it, like they have in football. Waterford, Cork & Tipp in league finals today, yet at least one of them won’t get to AI QF.

    Great to get a win

Personally I actually didn't think we were even that great. Sloppy at times. But I don't think that is any bad thing.

Was my first time in the Terrace and view is still impressive. The real games begin in 2 weeks but we can enjoy this week too.

Open draw or mixed pools of 4 of 5. Champions League format in neutral venues. As a Limerick fan I think once or at most playing the same team in championship is a joke. Cork/Limerick/Clare could potentially meet in group stage, Munster Final and All Ireland Final. Imagine beating a team twice and then losing the big one to them. That's not sport.

So true so true you'd hope that some of the negativity, that some of the other counties have towards the venue might stop.

Cork bias comes into play here obviously but for me it's the number one GAA venue in the country along with Thurles.

People talk about access being an issue, but look at Galway their main GAA stadium is on the wrong side of town altogether imo.

There's no beating a packed Pairc Ui Chaoimh on a sunny day with mostly everyone roaring the Rebels on to victory!

i probably give out too much about the paric mainly because i am not fit enough anymore to walk 30 minutes its a fantastic stadium in truth and looked well today

personally i feel cork have improved on last july , guys like diarmuid healy and cormac o'brien are huge additions to a team , o'brien is better than mark colman already , he was very impressive in the club championship last summer too

i think this will be brian hayes's break out year too he will take over from the hearnedys and the lehanes of the past and will be a household name by the end of july

how the championship will play out is a mystery but i do see cork and limerick a bit ahead at the moment , great scenes in supervalue today but not a patch on terrence the barber and mary kingston at the beat on the streat back in the day 😂

Oh i still fully expect Clare to be one of the teams to emerge from Munster, although both Waterford and Tipp despite their performance today can claim a few scalps as well imo.

to be fair i do too but we are just as capable of beating cork and losing the following week , also you have to realise the pressure is completely off at the moment the league and liam mccarthy were still turning up at events only a few weeks back here we enjoyed this one , while we got the lucky breaks on the day we had to go through some fair hassle to get to that point i

so i would wonder about our hunger come easter sunday , the same thing happened in 2014

Great win yesterday and sets up nicely for a genuine All Ireland tilt. Supervalu Parc looked amazing yesterday in the sun. The pitch has to be one of the best surfaces in the country

    It's only the league

Will be forgotten if we can't get out of Munster

Clare match huge now for this group

We need to win up there as we haven't beaten them in championship since 2018

Last 3 times we won the league we lost in championship to Clare 1981, 1993, 1998

Cork knocked Clare out in 2021. Patrick Collins made an excellent late save on Tony Kelly the same day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,077 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

    That's a fair point

We haven't beaten them in Munster since 2018 though

    Well overdue a win

What’s the format of U20 F this year? I presume losers tonight won’t be out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,344 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Best Tipp next week and we'll play Kerry in the final regardless of tonight AFAIK

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,344 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Cork 0-7 Kerry 1-09 HT. went 6 down early on, got it back to 3 only for Kerry to push on again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,344 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Kerry 1-22 Cork 1-12. Kerry much better in every way, looked alot bigger than us, almost like minors v u20s.

A few flashes of good football but Kerry looked good. Miskella has to Actually play at 14 as he is very dangerous and got on a lot of ball 50 yards from the goal - too far from goal to be effective. A couple of forwards need to actually take on their men and beat them - way too passive with being happy to pass the ball sideways/backwards.

Tipp won their U20 football game against Clare so we will now play them in Pairc Ui Chaoimh next Tuesday night. The winner gets to play Kerry in the Munster Final.

I saw 2 results last weekend in the Celtic Challenge which is U17 Hurling.

    Cork City/East 2-20 Clare Saffron 0-15

West Cork 5-14 Clare Blue 1-15

Rob Downey voted Hurler of the Week as well!

The worry for this Cork u20 team is that Kerry was missing their 3 best players including u20 player of year on 2024.

I have seen few underage games involving Cork and Kerry teams over past 8 months or so and the difference in standard is huge

Kerry are on a different planet to Cork. Better all round, football wise, physical wise and even vision wise.

Been hearing how Cork "have the players" but they simply don't.

Cork won't be any where near a force in football for least a decade. And with County Board broke and just simple lack of will to actually improve the game here I don't see much changing for long long time.

I think we will go to Div 3 before we get promoted again.

In fairness though, Cork had 3 of their main attackers missing too. Dara Sheedy Ed Myers and Bryan Hayes.

But the worry is that was the 8th consecutive win by Kerry over Cork in all levels and 6 of them were underage.

Did this Cork team beat Kerry in U17 Munster final in 2022? Poor drop off from then if that is the case - but to be missing 50% of your forward line is a big ask.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,644 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

True but we have seen the excuses for the footballers time and again.

I be shocked if they get within 6 points of Kerry if they make the final.

The calibre of player coming through is not up to what's required at the top level.

It's depressing thinking about it actually

It's about the Cork football set up also. Trying to get 15 athletes running off the shoulder all the time. I counted 3 kick passes in the U20 game- pathetic. Been like this for a few years. Watched a few Rebel Óg teams training.... running and running and running and gym work etc. So little actual ball work. Hard to see why footballers would want to be involved with it to be honest. The mentality needs to gi hack to ladies and actually kick the bloody ball. Fellas are afraid to kick from 40 yards still in case they 'lose possession' despite the 2 pointers. One player took 2 kicks and scored from both of them v Kerry. Don't think there was a single other attempt - that'd on the management, their tactics and training.

You won't win anything giving away possession.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 34,922 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

And yet..... such a simplistic statement.

Not going long In Case you lose possession is just bollocks.

Plenty of Kerrys 30-40 yard kick passes maintained possession.

    Imagine that.

Corks set up is not working and hasn't done for years.

Kerry could have had 30% possession and still beat us out the gate.

Conor Corbett is back in training for the Footballers which is great news. The Kerry game is too soon for him though.
