    hi there,

I’m trying to fit a new light fitting but am unsure how to connect it up. The previous light was not removed by me so I don’t know how it was connected.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

You're going to need to add a section of flex cable between those two joints as they will not make a connection otherwise as the solid core wire from the ceiling is too thick/rigid. Once the flex is installed then you can wrap the connector in PVC tape and then tuck the wire back into the ceiling to hide it before mounting the light.

thanks for the reply. Appreciate it.

im sorry I don’t really understand. I need a new cable to fit between the 2 connectors? How do I know which to connect to?

I’m guessing it’s wrong to connect the new fitting wires directly to the ceiling connector?

Live/L is the single wire, neutral/N is the three-in-one.

You won't get all of those wires into that connector block which came with the lamp fitting, you shouldn't remove the supplied connector block either as it's part of the protection of the fitting; that's why I'm recommending that you add in a new flexible cable between both.

It's not ideal, but these new lights weren't designed with the existing wiring layout in mind, so they take some extra work to install.

I know I'm coming in on this discussion a little late but that looks like old wiring in an old house with no visible earth wire. Surely it is not ideal to fit a metal ceiling light with no earth to connect up?

You're definitely right but this is a double-insulated fitting so does not technically require an earth. Most of Woodies light are double insulated like that, but it's important to check.
