Have to laugh at Piastri in the cool down room after watching the highlights, "is that all that happened?"

Terrible race, I think McLaren are going to suffer until one of their drivers opens a points gap on the other and can get preference on strategy.

Antonelli looks a great prospect, was firing out fast laps right to the end.

Let's hope there is a little more to talk about after Bahrain next weekend. Although, I expect McLaren could dominate easily.

Is there a limit to how many drivers you can switch or how often you can switch them?

I am glad I stayed in bed. That was an absolute bore!

Well in Max - 4 in a row there - first to do it.

Happily I watched that race on the replay on sky and didn't get up. What a bore.

Disappointing that McLaren didn't do anything to try and win the race. The problem I see with them is they will be happy to let their drivers race, but not if there's another driver nearby. So if Max keeps out performing the car he'll make life very tricky for them.

What a boring race and I am only watching the highlights on Channel 4. Even the highlights can not make it exciting.

Great drive by Max though. Mclaren once again shot themselves in the foot with there strategy. Maybe that are the new Ferrari. As for Hamilton at Ferrari instead of Carlos Seinz. I think going by the first few races it was a mistake so far. Ferrari might be higher up in the points if Carlos was still there but we will never know now.

Carlos is wasted in the Williams.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

nah, it's not… some of them are real, but the the screen image is fairly obvious.

    look again.

Stand out for me, Hamilton and LeClerc to their race engineers on the radio. They sound absolutely done with them and it's only three races in.

Hamilton losing his patience quickly with not getting information he does need, LeClerc sarcasm when getting information he doesn't need. It's like they have no clue what details they should be giving the drivers and end up just talking shite.

I'd say it's a friggin nightmare. Huge changes needed around strategy and race engineering by the sounds of the drivers. It's clearly an on going issue for them, very frustrating I'd say.

Hang on, you think sky are faking a microphone when interviewing drivers in the pen?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,214 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

yep, some of the camera views have a microphone imaged, obviously just to give the appearance of their total control in all countries.

    It's subtle.

McLaren were probably reluctant to try an alternate strategy. Would Lando have wanted to risk it being in second. If they let Oscar run long, and he overcut Lando, they'd have had the same issue as last year with Lando expecting to be switched, which Oscar wouldn't have been too impressed with.

Imo it was just easier to not try anything, and let the drivers race to win, it's unlikely to have any impact on winning the constructors championship this year.

But if they keep getting it wrong they may risk leaving the door open for Max in the drivers championship and that will piss off both drivers. I think they should have split strategies and gave Lando, as the lead driver on track, the option and if he said no, do it with Piastri.

i'm so delighted i got myself setup with F1TV this year. more balanced commentary and simply refreshing. Not to mention of the extras of using multiviewer.

cherry bonus of way cheaper that than getting sky sports subs or now TV sports.

Freedom from listening to Danika, Ted, Naomi and that craig fella.

I'm thinking of doing the same, I'll miss Brundle but I can't take "Crofty" anymore. Do you just download an app on your Smart TV or what way does it work?

One of the most boring races I have ever watched. Fans want to see overtakes and wheel-to-wheel racing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,354 ✭✭✭T-Maxx

That's not what F1 is about anymore. Those days are long gone unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭niallm77

The problem keep manifesting itself, unless there is a variable such as a bit of rain, several SC or a red flag then this is what we get too often. A rule change to have to use all three types of tyre in the (dry) race might mix it up a little and bring more strategy into it. There is also a lot of new drivers this year (and driver moves) which doesn't help

No season in the history of Formula 1 has ever delivered thrilling racing at Every Single Race. The 1990 Japanese GP might have been great but the French GP that year might have been a snooze fest. That's just how it is in Motorsport.

    This too shall pass.

Max give us a magical weekend where he beat 4 to 5 faster cars on track. I could not take my eye off the timing delta waiting for the time to tumble to Norris and waiting for the tyre deg to kick in. His drive yesterday remind me back to the 90's where Schumacher was up against the McLaren's and Newey. Nearly all the drivers said they were flat out for the whole race, and at the end Ocan had to be helped out of the car. Yesterday's race was an intense battle in a different way without all the 50 + overtakes per race. That was not a boring race that was pure talent, Consecration and fitness, a battle of David and Goliath.

Calling Max Verstappen and Red Bull David is a massive overstatement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,772 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Just to clarify, Ocon and a mechanic helped Jack Doohan out of his car. It's suspected Jack's hand might still be weak after the Friday high speed crash.

    This too shall pass.

Yeah he never moved his wrist at all on that onboard.

He can't afford to be injured as if Colapinto gets in Doohan likely wont shift him out again.

Speaking of Alpine Hirakawa has left to join Haas immediately after his FP1 run with Alpine. Probably was some kind of deal where Alpine were paid to run him in Japan. He's a Toyota driver mainly and since Toyota are partners of Haas makes sense he moves there.

Maybe the other way, hards last the race so would have a hard less grippy compound, mediums are 1 stop and softs require 2 stops. Up to the team which one they use. No DRS because the whole point of using hards would be to gain track position. The tyre requirements at the moment cause boring periods with "tyre management". No requirements to use more than 1 type.
