Like Counting Crows in reverse (theatres and clubs in the UK, 3Arena in Dublin), Catfish and the Bottlemen are playing massive outdoor venues in the UK (Heaton Park, Principality Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium), and they're in a tent here. Is there that much of a difference in their fanbase across the water, or are those UK venues just ludicrously ambitious? If they are that scale in the UK, surely people would kill to see them in Fairview.

2025 Gigs and Events: Stuart Murdoch, Lyle Lovett, Stuart Murdoch, Camera Obscura, The Corrs/Imelda May/Natalie Imbruglia, Olivia Rodrigo, Iron Maiden, Neil Young/Van Morrison, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, Weezer, Sparks (x2), The Doobie Brothers, Billie Eilish (x2), Oasis, Sharon Van Etten, The Human League/Blancmange, Deacon Blue/Turin Brakes, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings (x2), Nerina Pallot, Sleeper

Extremely ambitious with the UK dates alright, huge venues.

Two of the members have left aswell.

Loved them years ago, some great olympia gigs and saw them plenty of times abroad. But they are certainly not tottenham hotspur stadium capacity act. Might take a look on ticketmaster and see how it's selling

Almost every section is still in blue (indicating availability) and the stage is set quite deep into the pitch area.

Their stock is very low right now and both Irish venues are very ambitious (stupidly so imo). Personally think they’re crap but travelled up to the RDS with pals for the show last August which was cancelled 10 minutes before doors opened.

Amble have one album is it ?

70 euro for a small band with one album is silly but thats the way prices are now.

Matt Berninger's new single is a right banger.

More bizarrely, they don't have any proper albums yet. Just EPs. Their debut is due out next month I think. I saw them in the Olympia, and I really enjoyed it. I think the 3Arena is too big of a location for their sound. But I will head anyway. The Fairview one, if in the tent, could be really good. I was listening to Kingfisher today. Exact same sound.

You are right about Bonnet of Pins. Great song.

These kind of bands are the heirs to the Picture This throne, but admittedly have a more authentic vibe.

Definitely, there's been no media on the band since they announced the original stadium gigs, not a hope Belsonic sells out, Fairview could come close but the issue with RDS could affect sales.

They were never huge in Ireland so shocked on these biggish shows

Yep plus all their managerial/drug/record issues. Supposedly they have an album done that's in label limbo and the shows cancelled last year were never even acknowledged

Next free Tilt. One day I'm going to make it to one of these 🤣

If Van McCann feels bothered to show up. If people think Sam Fender is bad for the no-shows, he is another level worse.

They have a good UK following, but the recent hiatus/breakup/no-show years have left that crowd dwindling. They got a great crowd at Benicassim a few years back.

about time! Didn’t come here on last tour for the latest album, unfortunately.
looking forward to this, saw them in the academy last time they were here and they were great. Cried was amazing too.
Take me to the distant past!

aikenpromotions posting stuff about Ed Sheeran new stuff on their story, could mean a tour announcement soon with an Irish date

They're not my usual cup of tea but they were great at EP whatever year that was, banger after banger. Clever fellas.

Oh Boland and Soft on Crime both on the bill for the Tubs tonight. That's a bit of a bonus, I must say. I know Oh Boland around for a good while now but I've seen neither before. Anyone who has? On way now so I'll certainly give both a look.

According to someone on Reddit Fontaines are announcing an Irish gig on Monday, no idea how true it is but suppose it makes sense if they are playing given the time

I saw them a few years ago playing a support slot in Roisin Dubh. My recollection is that I felt there were lots of Husker Du references. I enjoyed it.

I've seen Oh Boland 5/6 times, local crew (Tuam & Galway). Niall Murphy is a fine guitarist and frontman but the band have gone through several changes. He ditched his hometown pals and former bandmates and moved to Dublin circa 2019 and I've only seen them once since. Feedback please, and I hope they still rock out as much as they used to. Noisy sods, had a fan in Steve Lamacq who gave them a bit of airplay. Once again UK radio doing more for an Irish act than local stations.

First time for me and I loved them. He's an incredible guitarist, and rest assured, they're still rockin'. All fairly chaotic but the better for it. As I say, wild stylistic variations in there, a bit of country, a bit of Punk, a bit of Pavement but wildly enjoyable, for me anyway. I'll be looking out for them.

Rumours of Kneecap being one of two local supports for the Fontaines Belfast announcement tomorrow morning. I’m inclined to bet against it considering they just sold out the SSE themselves hence would probably do their own Belsonic gig instead but Belfast Vital do tend to go big with the support acts at those gigs (CMAT for Sam Fender, Kasabian for Liam G, Johnny Marr for The Killers).

    What do we reckon lads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 212 ✭✭ts_editor

Belsonic is 15k, Vital is 30k capacity.
    Definitely need a strong undercard.

Don't know how big a draw Fontaines are in the North. Don't think they've done anything bigger than two nights in the Ulster Hall, but that was a while ago.

Muse w/ Biffy Clyro & Nothing But Thieves played Vital and there was loads of competitions and freebies the week before.

Depending on the gig the Belsonic capacity for some has been well over 20k the last few years. Vital is close to if not just over 40k.

I'd say Fontaines wouldn't have been far off selling out had they been at Belsonic, Vital will be a push for them, but with it being the last big outdoor gig of the summer up here you could well get a lot of people going along as event junkies as much as anything else and making an evening of it.

Don't think they do, the 3 Arena shows were somewhat hard to get tickets to and sold out long before Romance came out. Kneecap themselves are also doing 2 nights at 3 Arena this year. Also most of the shows are sold out in summer, so there'll be plenty willing to travel for it. Romance sent them to the next level

Seen them a few times in support slots and found them enjoyable enough. Pavement, Undertones, Buzzcocks is what i remember. Sounds like they're still in that wheelhouse. Just remembered i also saw Soft On Crime supporting someone in the Grand Social not too long ago. I wasn't so keen on them tbh.
