I’m looking at buying a NI Reg EV around 30K. Am I right in thinking it is exempt from VAT and VRT? Also how are people managing the transfer? Last time pre Brexit I used Transfermate. Any better options?

    Yes, should be.

I've used Wise recently, it was a good bit better than Revolut. Didn't try Transfermate

    Yes. And Revolut is fine

Thank you for the replies. It seems Transfermate is no longer an option. Anyone use their own banks BOI or AIB? Does it work out much more expensive?

    Do you not have Revolut?

When I did it in Belfast about 5 years ago I just used Bank of Ireland as it was too much hassle getting the money into Revolut as I left myself short on time. Anyway after everything it ended up being the same as what Revolut would have been, I was surprised. Swiped the card put in the pin and that was it.

Thank you. I managed to check it with my own bank after and comparing with Revolut it looks like the later are about E700 cheaper so I will be going with them. I upgraded to the premium, had an offer for 2 months free, not sure if I can cancel after a week will try to find that out. Thank you for all the help, really appreciate it.

I used moneycorp. The car can't be new. And has to be registered in the North. You should just be charged €2.90 per tyre, 4 or 5 of them…

Thank you, decided to go with Revolut after. It’s taking forever for money to transfer from my bank though, doesn’t transfer over the weekend so it looks like it could take another week by the time I get the money to Revolut and then get the sterling into garages account.

A week? You’ll have the money in your account on Monday morning, and after exchanging to pounds the transfer to the garage will be instant

Last year I upgraded to premium for the purpose of buying a car, they had a 14 day cooling off period that I made use of once I was finished with it.

Make sure to transfer the money from Euro to Sterling during the week, as there is an additional fee at the weekend. You can just move it from your Euro account to your sterling account on Revolut.

I compared Revolut to BoI when buying last year and it was nearly 5% cheaper to use revolute, they also have no limits on card transactions so I bought the car using card.
