Hi, when I moved into my house there was a sink in the bedroom. The taps never worked so I assumed they were disabled by an isolating valve or similar. Today I have been ripping out this sink but when I started to disconnect the pipe from the tap, water started to come out of the pipe. Not sure what to do next.

This is where I began to loosen…

I don't see any valve along the way that lets me turn off the water.

There MAY be a valve where the cold water to the taps leave the tank in the attic which you may be able to shut off it it isn't seized/corroded. If not then it's probably a drain down the system. A plumber may have a freeze kit if there is enough exposed pipe somewhere which could simplify the problem.

This is all assuming this is a tank fed cold tap, if it's mains fed just shut off the mains and mop up any spillage.

Blocked, broken or seized cartridge? The bit that shuts off the water flow.

yeah fair enough, it's just odd that both of them are not working. I assumed it was intentional. Thanks.

Does the top of the tap spin or is it solid

It's possible someone disabled them to stop kids wasting water or something

They could be turned off but water from the tank is still in the pipe, a pint or 2.

The taps only spin a quarter or half a turn now that you mention it.

Could be water in the pipes too I guess but I can't even see where it might have been turned off.

I got a call there to say plumber is coming Monday for another job so I'll wait until then to investigate further. Good timing?
