Hopefully, it was an enormous project but it seemed to be in good hands. Would think a "re-visit" series would be pretty cheap for them to produce too. Following the Grand Designs format for them it really is just a matter of one extra visit to the property and re-editing some of the original material.

My fave episode so far, there's hope for the youth yet! He had a perfectly fine house for 30k , seen a second hand Volkswagen golf for 30k outside a dealership yesterday!

That must be Nigel with the brie...

The boy done good. But remember he was saving a fortune on labourers, spark etc. with friends and family helping out.

True but he had the bottle to go at it himself, which is half the battle.

If that was dermot bannon , it'd tender at 270k n with snags uncovered n extras finish up at 390k !

The windows the girlfriend's father made for him would probably be the guts of 30k on their own for most of us. The young lad did exceptionally well but he had a lot of help.

Have prices gone that bad/high? I genuinely have no clue of the price of things these days but 30k seems like an awful lot. 30k would have been the figure I would have had in mind for windows for a modern new build with plenty of big, high spec windows. The cottage had 4 tiny windows to the front and probably the same to the back.

Handmade from a decent hardwood like Teak/Iroko they're going to be a couple of grand each I reckon.

Very sad to hear that Hugh Wallace has passed away, he was absolutely brilliant on the great house revival and on home of the year loved his wittyness and that he never agreed just for the sake of it.

Sincere condolences to family and friends.

    Rest in Peace.

Hugh was a real national treasure.

He was great on the GHR. I really liked him. No other architect or designer that's currently on the TV comes anywhere near him. May be rest in peace.

Really sad news, he was so likeable and able to get along well with everyone on his shows.

The Great House Revival really showed his passion for architecture and building heritage. He was the best judge on Home of the Year too, he was able to see beyond his own personal taste and find something positive in each home. Amanda is the opposite, she just looks down her nose at decor that doesn't align with her own taste, Hugh always appreciated a homeowner making their home their own.

Condolences to his husband and family.

There was an episode on last night and it was so sad to watch Hugh with his personality, humour and wit, knowing that he's now gone. They left up a little tribute picture after the programme. Wonder was there another series in-progress?

I think they said he was in the middle of filming the next series.

Didn't get to see last night's one (I saw it when originally aired), it must have been very poignant.

Oh, that's a pity. Dunno how they will resolve that now if it's only half completed. Poor Hugh.

It would be a pity not to make use of what they have done to date if there is enough there to work with.

They could draft in a suitable alternate and make use of any notes/minutes of meetings etc. that are available.

It's a show business tradition that the show must go on and I imagine Hugh would want it that way.

Dedicating it to his memory would be nice.

It would be a pity alright but then who would they pick to fill his spot and who would want to as well. It would probably have to be someone already known on tv with background in restoration/architecture so Dermot bannon, Amanda Bones or maybe the guy that does cheap irish homes but dont think any of them would be right for it

Or Harrison Gardner from "Build Your Own Home"?

Both Great house revival and Home of the year featuring Hugh will be coming to Rte soon, HotY was finished before he passed, but not sure about GHR

From RTE "The late Hugh Wallace returning to our screens 🤍

Following the passing of our friend and colleague Hugh Wallace, and with the full support of his family, RTÉ will proceed with the broadcast of the new series of Home of the Year and The Great House Revival this year.

Now in its 12th series, Home of the Year was completed before Hugh’s death. Hugh has been a judge on the programme since its inception and will be remembered by his warmth and enthusiasm, and for consistently capturing the hearts of viewers. Series 12 will begin Tuesday, March 3 at 7pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.

RTÉ’s The Great House Revival will also air this Spring. We will honour Hugh’s remarkable dedication, passion, vibrant spirit, and enduring love for design and architecture.

Hugh will be remembered with great fondness by the teams who worked with him on both series in Shinawil and Animo TV production companies, and by the loyal viewers who welcomed him into their homes for so many years."
