Didn't he say Ronaldo was his idol….the way he plays is very Ronaldo-esque when he start being more of a scorer than a tricky winger…unfortunately Garnacho isn't actually scoring.

Garnacho would make a fine old school touchline winger if you could get it into his head but also that player isn't in the Amorim system.

Definitely wouldn't be getting carried away with our possession stats given Forest's style of play but I don't think the extra 30 mins came into it much.

I did think we played decent last night while having that possession. Passing and movement seemed good, signs of improvement from an extremely low base though. Lack of attacking threat the usual downfall while in possession.

Absolutely spot on. Also applies to those on loan too I'd imagine.

I don't get the Ronaldo comparison at all being honest. Ronaldo could skin a defender at will at the same age and while his overall game hadn't reached the levels it would eventually reach he was progressing season after season at Utd. While he did shoot a lot he also had much better link up play than Garnacho as well.

Honestly, after 100+ senior games for the club we should have seen some improvement in Garnacho by now but he just reverts to his usual head down and run into a dead end tactics all too often.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

I'm sure it's an annoying question to get and I'm sure he's sick of being asked about players that aren't with the club but I also think it's a bit harsh on Elanga / a bit petty in general.

The fact is that Elanga is still a young lad, he's 22 and playing well with a team that looks like they are going to get a CL spot. Amorim should know that it's hard to do a good job given the mess we were / are in. He has plenty of players in that age bracket that haven't been performing at United / players that he hasn't got performing at United yet.

I'm sure the reply was more pointed at the likes of Antony, Rashford and Sancho than Elanga imo

Not for nothing, but given our striking woes, and given Garnacho is a bit selfish but has a burst of pace and a decent shot off both feet, would it be worth it for the few remaining games of the season to try him as the front man and see how he goes?

Zirkzee is a trier but limited, and Hojlund is a busted flush, so they're never going to bang in the goals.

I know Garnacho is very selfish at times, but maybe we need that try that instinctive "I'm going for this" attitude up front. The league season is done, no harm in giving things a try.

PS - Am I right in saying that we have not managed to win two games on the trot in the Premier League all season? That's shocking.

i dont think so. he has no interest in duelling 50:50's and prob has no interest in competing for headers. and no interest in pressing.

    i hope amorim drops him.

What’s even more shocking is that a centre half was put in up front with about 5mins left and nearly won the

game for MU. Doesn’t say much for the very expensive so called strikers.

There’s where the problem is…..lack of goals……we can go on at length about possession, passing, courage, fighting spirit till the cows come home but until we get a set of goal scorers it’s a waste of time.

Ten Hag relied on Hojlund and Garnacho to score and create goals. It didn't work.

Amorim relies on Hojlund and Garnacho to score and create goals...

Zirkzee starting up front with Bruno running everywhere playing crap sideways passes often to the opposition and Garnacho all over the place means there is nobody close with him to link up or run the inside channels which is key for a false 9. Hamstrings everything. Bruno is the first option for passes so Zirkzee is pointless most times with Bruno at 10.

No pacey players bar Hojlund who doesn't really use it though did have that one move last night where he beat a player well on the byline. You look at Elanga's goal and wonder why Hojlund can't do that (ball control probably the answer but he can run with the ball when he turns).

You wonder what's really different bar the formation taking an extra player from midfield to put into defence.

Centre backs have been played as CFs as a last resort since the dawn of time. Not really unusual.

He nearly scored, yeah. But because of the chaos having an extra man in the front lines can cause, not because Maguire is better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 791 ✭✭✭ngunners

Agreed, Garnacho would be hopeless as a striker. He needs space to operate and even then is largely ineffective.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,842 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

I never said it was unusual.

My point was Maguire got on the ball , at least twice, in around six minutes where Hovjland got nowhere near a scoring situation in forty five!

Some folk need to cop on and accept that Right now Hovjland is useless.

I don’t like it, but I know a bad buy when I see one and am not afraid to say it.

C’mon dude, face up to reality.

I'd assume that bluntness is a bit lost in translation as otherwise its a bit of a bizarre take with regards Elanga in particular.

But what a daft question since it is about Elanga. Amorim had absolutely nothing to do with selling Elanga and has probably never even met him. I could get asking ETH since he was the one who decided to sell him but you'd be aswell asking Amorim about Matteo Darmian or Largie Ramazzani as Elanga. Utterly daft.

I didn't comment on Hojlund, not sure why you're going off on one. Maybe you're confused - try not to get ahead of yourself.

My point was fairly simple. If you throw a CB into your front line it can cause chaos for the opposition and don't be surprised if the CB gets goal scoring opportunities. And don't draw conclusions from it by comparing to performances that occured in more normal game states with less riskier formations.

Jesus, that last line. Did you type that in 1995. I'm mortified for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,832 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

Didn't watch the game as I don't need the stress but a CB nearly scoring at the end of a game is a typical scenario when a team is desperate, dosnt mean Harry is a better striker than Rasmus. I agree an established goal scoring striker must be our top priority even if it means selling garnacho and mainoo to get one. We are doomed without goals.

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

We absolutely need a striker and a 10 in the summer - but my worry is that whomever we buy won;t be able to play EVERY game, and when they are out of the side we are right back to where we are now?

Though in fairness if Mount was fully fit and Amad fit the 10 spot would look better than it does right this moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,239 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Ah we can't be worrying about the games a new signing will be rested for. If we're making good signings and getting stronger then that's the main thing. One summer won't fix everything.

You would hope that new signings coming in improve competition and raise the standard overall. I would like to think that Hojlund would improve if he's taken out of the spotlight a bit, he can't score much less than he is at present anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,192 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

That's another worry if we sign Delap. We would need somebody else up front to sign with him and do we have the funds for this? The answers no unless we sell which will be difficult to do. Any prolific striker will have other suitors in the market for them i.e. Arsenal and Liverpool. We're not exactly a club that would appeal to the likes of Osimhen and Gyokeras.

The more I see of Onana the more irked I get. Heres his positioning for the goal after watching Elanga run 80yds

I read people say he made a wonder save last night but on replay the only reason he got to it was the favourable bounce broufhr it up to his hand. He has an awful technique of diving higher than the ball

That "wonder save" looked better than it was in real time because of the angle of the camera, it was right beside him and was a standard save for any keeper really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 295 ✭✭Toranaga

Another goal tonight for Delap playing for Ipswich. That's 10 this season working off scraps. Just because he's the same age as Hojlund doesn't mean he has the same drawbacks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,192 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Could he be a one season wonder though. Also plenty of what we thought were promising players signed for us in the last decade and look how that turned out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,467 ✭✭✭BenK

Rashford scored again. Can only help with his transfer fee.
