Your profile pic is from a TV series you watched the first time around over 40 years ago and your signature is from a musician who died in the 1990s (well… almost).

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

You are so desperate to recapture your youth that you pay a grand for Oasis tickets. You hope that there will be plenty around your age at the gig and it won't just be 30 year old kids.

You were 16 when the Aerosmith Crazy video was released and it was the best thing EVER. Now when it pops up on MTV 90s you feel like a dirty old pervert for watching it.

You realise that it is 30 years since Pulp released Disco 2000 and it hits harder than ever. You think about what you've done in the last 30 years and where you'll be in another 30.

You think today’s music is awful compared to your day .
You trim nose and ear hair , or rather if you don’t you really should be .

You miss Top of The Pops.

You get sucked in by Carol Vorderman and her insurance ads , for policies to pay for your funeral . Even though you know it’s a good idea .

You completely miss the All-Ireland finals as they’re not in September now .
You can remember watching the whole programme about FA Cup finals .

Nobody...from our generation would willingly pay that price for a ticket to see a band they remember seeing playing support once 30 odd years ago !

Think how many nights away in Portugal / Lanzarote that would pay for ;)

You find yourself thinking “That referee looks very young”

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I bought a MacBook in 2007 on my birthday as a present to me. €1250. OH freaked out but I got a whole ten years of daily use out of it (back when you could do RAM and hard disk upgrades) so in the end it worked out cheap.

I still have it and it still works. I'm keeping it because it has a FireWire port and we have mini-DV cassettes from the camcorder on our honeymoon I still haven't got around to capturing 🙄

    No, they're not porn

BTW I put Linux on the Mac on day one and only booted into OS X to update my iPod (remember those? Mine finally died last year, got a cheap bluetooth adaptor for the Bose iPod speaker we paid stupid money for, so it's better now than ever)

You find yourself thinking that Garda looks very young, actually his or her sergeant looks very young too…

That doctor in A&E looks like they should be still in school and actually the consultant looks quite young as well!

When the highlight of your week is talking to the cute cashier at the gas station who's half your age when you have to go in and get petrol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,379 ✭✭✭thereiver

I wish there was a tv show on every week that had groups from the top 40 .I don't think there was ever a program as weird as totp there,d be Rock reggae one hit wonders new wave indie on one tv show .singers actually sang in a real accent eg not a pseudo America n accent There's a podcast Chart Music they talk about every episode of Totp

sometimes it was awful or cringe as they say nowadays. .it ran the gamut of quality from A to Z .some of the Djs were awful but it was always interesting to watch . I don't want to sound sexist but sometimes it's nice to see dancers dancing to a really a song with a nice melody .

Bbc 4 is doing a great service by showing 3 episodes every week . I hope someone is recording them and uploading them to YouTube

    Or archive.org

I m watching old SNL tv shows at the moment and there's some great singers on there every week simple minds and The cranberrys sounded great live.

I think mint Linux us much better than osx as you don't need to worry about constant update.s or getting malware .I don't need most people only need vlc chrome browser and a mp3 player , I see no point in ai apps for the average user unless you are a student

You can remover when rock groups were in the top 40 charts MTV mostly played music videos you have a cheque book you don't use apps to pay for grocerys

The good thing now is there's a lot of new documentary s coming out now on rock music pop music from the 90s ,aughties etc eg the greatest night in pop

Marty Mcfly went from 1985 to 1955 in Back to the Future.

Wow, shure that'd be like us today going back to.. 1995! That can't be right..oh wait it is.

    Eek!

Should definitely bring back the music video. Probably not the money in it these days, they spent millions on videos back in the day.

It would give new and current bands some publicity. Fecked if I could name any new groups for the last decade or two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,379 ✭✭✭thereiver

Bands get publicity on social media it does,nt make sense for everyone to make music videos. we are all nostalgic for whatever decade is the time we were teenagers that's part of human nature .The music was best when we were 18 ,eg 94 ,,2004 ,etc pick your own decade

You are old when the worst danger we faced was getting bombed by Russia no one was worried about climate change Trump was some bloke on reality tv .The 90s. Seems like a very innocent optimistic decade now

Saw a few episodes of Nationwide recently and found myself enjoying it, used to think it was the most boring thing on telly.

When booking a hotel or apartment making sure there is a walk in shower and ideally a ‘proper’ armchair

Oldies stop trying to keep covered up in changing rooms and walk around letting it all hang out.

….or hang down in some cases.

When you have to lay out all your morning medication the night before, just in case you forget one of your pills. For me at the moment it’s venlefex, alopurinol, vimovo, cod liver oil and concentrated cherry juice.

While flicking through the preset stations for something to listen to when driving, you find you're stopping on Marty in the Morning on lyric FM with increasing frequency.

Edit . . . Just be careful not to fall asleep.

Saw a tweet this morning that went along the lines of '17 years ago today Ronaldo scored this iconic goal'

It was Cristiano Ronaldo against Roma in 2008, was expecting a Brazilian Ronaldo goal from 1996 before I scrolled down for the clip.

Oldies drink enough tea to float a cruise ship. One person I know drinks pretty much a cup every hour.

Sadly a lot of seniors don't have much going on in their lives.

    Tea just passes time.
