Yeah, flogas also told me that there's an "issue with my email" and I should have received the info by now. Sounds to be something fishy going on

the link was posted earlier today to all the bwg offers and all appear to be available to join online for new and existing customers

Rang Flogas there about renewal and was asked still working for BWG which i said yes to 😉

So renewal quote was: 26.49 D, 13.35 N, SC of 331.33. I mentioned on the website link that it had 24.03 as Day rate and he said that was for 24 hours rate, just a mistake on the page.

This is for non smart meter Day-Night just electricity.

Happy enough to sign up for an 18 month contract anyways as rates only 1c dearer than last year so cannot complain too much

Standing Charge of 331.33 is very expensive.

BTW It looks like they have changed the Standing Charge on the Smart Dual Fuel plan to €331.33, it was €257.37 last night on the above link. Though confusingly it is still €257.37 on the more retails page for that plan!

Thanks all for the info in the last few pages particularly. Another BWG employee here whose contract is now up. I'm on urban with a non-active smart meter, so will probably take the 24.03 fixed rate on offer for another 18 months.

We should all have a staff night out to celebrate our BWG savings

I'm renewing the BWG deal. Is a current reading needed for a continuation with Flogas. I don't want to be on the phone for ages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭sean29

I also renewed, but they didn’t ask for the current readings

Just uploaded my data to Energy Pal and when the solar generation is included the new Flogas Day/night plan comes to an annual cost of €441 which is great.

However there is another plan there that beats it called Energia Smart Data & €75 cashback. Energy Pal is saying that would cost me just €371 for the year when the feed in tarrif for solar is included. It means activating the smart meter in exchange for a €75 bribe. It also means higher unit rates (day 27.08, peak 28.39, night 14.5) but for my low enough usage they must be off set by a higher feed in tariff (20c vs the 18.5 cent of Flogas), a lower standing charge of €236 and the €75 cashback. Its counter intuitive to be paying higher unit rates but be saving overall but this situation can apply to low users of electricity who have solar. In this scenario getting a lower standing charge is important even if the unit rates are slightly higher.

Anyway I feel like Im dancing on the head of a pin to make a decision. Its either go smart and save €70 over the year but accept the Energia variable unit rate will likely go up by 8-10%. Or remain dumb and forgo the €70 saving now while locked in to the Flogas fixed rate for 18 months.

Standard - Phoned them, no wait time at all, explained I didn't want to activate a smart plan and wanted to stay standard.

I renewed via the above link. It did ask for readings.

Maybe I missed it over all the posts on the past few days, but is the BWG offer now d/n ? and not 24 hour?
Seems a decent plan if so.
    *EDIT,
    never mind.
Rang them there. Straight on to the 24hour plan at 24.03c kw.
Can change any time to d/n with no fee.
    Thanks guys.

    That's good info.

They also told me I can get my smart meter (doing its initial 30 days now in day/night mode) activated with them later to get on a smart plan (somewhat cheaper) without a fee.

    @Muahahaha

Both Energia and Flogas Microgeneration rates are the same I believe

    Energia 20c incl Vat

    Flogas 18.5c + vat = 20c

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 953 ✭✭✭POBox19

Flogas/BWG urban electricity only have 3 offers for 18mo. all inc. vat @ 9% until 31 October 2025.

Smart 24hr D/N/P all 23.44c/kw + SC 257.37. The same as the current 24hr rate, but activates the SM if not already done.

    Smart D/N 24hr meter D&P 25.94, N 12.79 + 331.33, a bit steep on the SC.

BWG Electricity 24hr meter D 24.03 + 257.38, this would be an unactivated SM or old meter. If you've got a Night Saver meter add N 13.35 + 331.33, do you pay standing charges for each meter?

Offer available from 01 April 2025 to 30 April 2025 but Flogas reserve the right to stop selling this product throughout this period.

I'm with Flogas(Fixed contract ends this month). 2 weeks ago I called them(when I got the letter) and they offered me rates higher than competitors so I said I'd leave it. Today I did get an email offering me a better rate which itself was not much more than the BWG one listed on this thread. Instead of having to make a phone call or try the BWG link I just clicked "accept" on the loyalty email. The difference was only marginally higher. We're talking EAB difference of €32 a year or 61c per week compared to BWG. Not worth the hassle.

Post the link so we can review, it may have higher standing charge etc .

Still no sign of any Flogas BWG new deal offer email in my inbox; surprise, surprise.

Looks like I'll be calling them over the next day or two to see what's what, as I'm just with them for gas and there's been no link posted for gas only.

Has as anyone else here gotten a BWG gas only rate/extension since Monday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,408 ✭✭✭Buffman

All the options are there in the link posted earlier by @Ardrageen , I'll repost it as it's a few pages back now. Gas only is there in one of the tabs.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Smart 24hr D/N/P all 23.44c/kw + SC 257.37. The same as the current 24hr rate, but activates the SM if not already done.

Be careful about this, there is some confusion if this is the correct standing charge. On the website they are showing two different SC's. €257 on the front page, but then €331.33 when you click through to the detail page.

    https://www.flogas.ie/price-plans/bwg-affinity-rate-res-offer/detail.html?fuelType=smart_electricity&offerId=63&availability=new_customers

They also changed the SC on the Smart Dual fuel plan on the main page from €257 up to €331 on the main page, but it still shows €257 on the details page for that plan!

I think they have gotten various figures messed up here!

Note that the Smart Metere plans have a much higher Standing Charger. So while the per unit cost might be sightly cheaper, depending on your usage you might pay more per year due to the higher standing charge, you need to check your yearly usage and work it out, for my usage it works out cheaper on the cheaper standing charge and higher unit price, but obviously can differ for others.
