The 422.23 rural standing charge on the smart day/night plan is abominable. Makes the Energia plan better value for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 264 ✭✭flyandrain

The standing charge is different for Smart Dual fuel and Smart Electricity. it might worth to sign up separtetly ?

all depends what plan you’re on I guess, I’m on a smart meter plan

    One of the BWG T&Cs

"This is a fixed energy contract meaning that the energy component of the unit rate and standing charge are fixed for the duration of the contract, but regulated pass-through charges may change. If we need to adjust these rates because of regulated charge changes, we will write to you 30 days in advance of the change".

Any idea what these 'pass-through charges' are. Does it mean if wholesale network charges increase they can increase rates?

someone said yesterday it’s about Esb networks raising prices to all suppliers

Thoughts on these from flogas? Non activated smart meter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,619 ✭✭✭Roberto_gas

its variable so no point in sticking to flo gas…go with Energia AXA…I am thinking of moving to smart 24 hr plan on Flogas BWG. Our peak usage and day time usage constitutes almost 90% use, so we dont want to go to a smart plan and mess up with trying to do things at night to save some bucks.

    Is this worthwhile?
As I said in a previous thread, I may want to change from 24 hour to day / night in August,
This is with Electric Ireland and they wont charge for changing from 24hr to d/n.

I've an unactivated smart meter. Any reason at this stage not to activate it? Current Flogas deal will end in the next few weeks so I'm thinking of going with that 18 month dualfuel fixed deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,619 ✭✭✭Roberto_gas

Well the 24 hr plan is infact standard….i did not enter the night readings and it went through fine….so smart 24 hr plan has some cents savings for electricity !

I'm confused, were the BWG fixed rates people were signing up for yesterday for non smart meters?

I have an unactivated smart meter and don't really want you activate it if I can avoid it and not pay over the odds in the meantime.

Still no email from BGW for me anyway (but I see link above).

I imagine this BWG deal is only for existing customers, not available to sign up to 18 mth deal otherwise ?

I have a smart meter which is not activated & I'm on electricity only. Rang earlier to enquire about renewing & was told it's 24.03 inc vat, standard charge of 257.38.

Renewed for the18 months. When I received the email it had two rates, day & night.

Rang again to find out what was going on & Sales indicated it must be an issue with the email as my account is 24 hour rate.

    I received the following explanation.

"The reason that it says day rate and night rate basically means that the 24.03 rate is a 24hour rate , and the night rate is only a night storage heater rate (this is only applicable to you if you have a night storage heater , if not you can ignore this rate)"

Thanks to all those who have posted updates on this.

Rang Flogas now I am on the BWG group rate like others I was told I will get an email today with the link …….. she didn’t check my email address so will wait and see not too hopeful.
Different CS reps seem to be doing different.
I enquired by email weeks ago and was told I will get a link by email never did

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 762 ✭✭✭ECookie13

Yeah, flogas also told me that there's an "issue with my email" and I should have received the info by now. Sounds to be something fishy going on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,256 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

the link was posted earlier today to all the bwg offers and all appear to be available to join online for new and existing customers

Rang Flogas there about renewal and was asked still working for BWG which i said yes to 😉

So renewal quote was: 26.49 D, 13.35 N, SC of 331.33. I mentioned on the website link that it had 24.03 as Day rate and he said that was for 24 hours rate, just a mistake on the page.

This is for non smart meter Day-Night just electricity.

Happy enough to sign up for an 18 month contract anyways as rates only 1c dearer than last year so cannot complain too much

Standing Charge of 331.33 is very expensive.

BTW It looks like they have changed the Standing Charge on the Smart Dual Fuel plan to €331.33, it was €257.37 last night on the above link. Though confusingly it is still €257.37 on the more retails page for that plan!

Thanks all for the info in the last few pages particularly. Another BWG employee here whose contract is now up. I'm on urban with a non-active smart meter, so will probably take the 24.03 fixed rate on offer for another 18 months.
