Also to remind, there will be VAT increase on electricity bills around May if I’m not mistaken. That would bump up Energia prices a bit but as Flogas is fixed, they shouldn’t get affected by this.

But I also wonder if standing order update on October would cause contract breaking condition and let us check for better deals then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,582 ✭✭✭bren2001

That’s incorrect. Flogas unit price will increase with the VAT change. The fixed rate is on the pre-VAT cost

Depending on the wording of the contract, they may be allowed increase the standing charge. You’d need to read it.

Given my contract has been extended until mid April think ill wait to see what the new BWG offer looks like.

Why are people renewing without finding that out as a matter of interest?

FAO 'BWG Staff' on the 31/03 contract, it is now safe to switch but from others very helpful posts it appears to be now worth calling them first.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

the new prices are in the thread and that’s what people are signing up to 👍🏻

If those rates are correct then according to energypal based on my usage, the difference between energia's smart data plan and flogas smart day/night is negligible. 18 months fixed rate is definitely preferable.

Can you sign up to the flogas smart day night plan with a standard 24hr smart meter or do you need one of the newer day/night variants?

No 24 hour rates? I guess the day/night rate is not a smart plan. It is more expensive for me that the moment than Energia offer especially with the high standing charges, but i guess a fixed rate is peace of mind.

Ah ok I thought i read in the thread that an email was still to come, or is that just to renew online (so the only way to renew as of now is by phone)?

Not much difference in the new Flogas deal vs the Energia AXA deal by the looks of it? Are BWG Flogas people switching or staying put?! I'm on a dual fuel 24hr plan atm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,256 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

well it is different for everyone really and depends if you want 18 months fixed price

reduced vat rate to be extended.

silly in my opinion but it does mean lower bills for a few more months

There's so many errors it's impossible to determine what rates you're actually signing up for?

E.g. when you click through to the terms and conditions the standing charges are far higher than on the front page.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭pacman114

Thanks for that. Looks like the 24hr dual fuel is only available as a smart plan? 23.44c per unit inc VAT for electricity too which is not bad!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,619 ✭✭✭Roberto_gas

cowboys activated my smart meter…the 24.9 electricity rate is for smart plan

is the smart plan worth activating ? i like the day night although our usage is low but no harm in activating if price is good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,069 ✭✭✭xboxdad

I just renewed my dual fuel contract yesterday on the basis of a day/night meter. So I got 26.49c day, 13.35c night, €331.33 standing charge.

I actually got a smart meter installed last week, but it's not showing as a smart meter on anybody's system for 30 days.

I hope I can get transferred to those cheaper plans. Even the non-smart plan with a smart meter is cheaper than what I got. (especially the standing charge)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,619 ✭✭✭Roberto_gas

can this plan be used on existing smart meter without activating smart features?

Looks like no standard 24hr electricity rates or plans…only smart plans for 24 hr !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭pacman114

Yup looks to be the case, have a smart meter but it's unactivated. Will probably activate to get the better plan…any downsides?! It will eventually happen i'm sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭Simi

Can't really tell what's on offer for unactivated smart meters. There's a night rate under the 24hr? So 24.03c day 13.35c night and a much lower standing charge would make it better value than the activated smart plan offerings, but I'm assuming you can't get the night rate without a day/night variant smart meter?

There's so many typos when you click through on each offer it's hard to know what you're signing up for

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,256 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

just renewed my contract for 18 motths, the woman said the standing charge is wrong on the listing for me and it’s €70 more because I’m on a smart meter 🤷‍♂️

I’ve got day peak and night contract again, I saw the 24hr plan for smart but I wasn’t too sure about that, I’m a very low user

2 emerald park tickets is a nice bonus
