    Hi All,

I like to wear a heart rate monitor for cycling. Been using a Polar device for the past 10 years but it has died. Anyone recommend a device that's not too expensive. I currently have a separate Polar watch on the handlebars for the HR. Happy to go with similar or combine with a speedometer. Don't want to spend silly money on it.

    All recommendations appreciated,

    T

I recently bought this after my second Garmin dual HRM died. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08411DQ96?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I paid €53 I think about 2 weeks so at 46 now it is even better.

Polar seem to be recommended as the most accurate and I can see from it already that it starts measuring quicker than the Garmin and also has a more consistent trend. I could see with a HRV app like Elite HRV that the Garmin was dropping in and out

I use it with a Garmin 530 which I am happy with

I use a Wahoo Tickr, and I find it to be good. I use it on my forearm, rather than the chest strap type, which I prefer.

Have a coospo one off of amazon. 30 quid, connects to the bike computer amd trainer no issue. If i was to get a new one id get a forearm one. Always slipping down, and when u have 3 layers on its not fun fiddling with the strap.

Wahoo tickets, cheap and cheerful 😊

I didn't know there was such a thing as a forearm monitor like that. The wrist watch ones are pants enough and I've had issues with the chest ones as well - not connecting sometimes, and then that weird thing where they last as long as the battery does and then refuse to work with a new battery.

How do the forearm ones perform?

I've a Garmin HRM Dual and find it good. I've just had to replace the battery on it this week after almost 2 years use. At RRP they're pricey, but can often be had on Amazon and the like at decent discounts.

To those who have issues with them slipping down - ye are obviously not eating enough cake at the cafe stops!

I have both a Garmin HRM Dual and a Polar H9 and been using both brands for years. They'll all fail at some point. Each are as accurate as one another. Wahoo is grand but no good for HRV measurements if you'll need it for that. Garmin customer service is absolutely fantastic and much better than Polar. With all else equal, I'd go for a Garmin HRM Dual over a Polar for the peace of mind of solid, no nonsense customer service.

The Garmin straps have a known issue with new batteries sometimes. The fix is to short the battery terminals (in the strap) together with something metallic before you insert the new battery (and obviously after you remove the old one). I've had to do it with mine a few times, but still using the same strap since I got my initial Garmin in 2011

Should try the Coros bicep heart rate strap. Pretty accurate and less of a pain then the chest ones. Electrodes eventually fail no matter the brand.
